Chapter Fifty One

Elle’s POV

“Psst,” said someone.

I looked up and saw Aidan on my door, looking like he had just fallen out of heaven.
Okay. Jokelang.

“Bihis ka.”

“Bakit?” I asked. “I have an exam tomorrow.”

“Ipagpapalit mo ako sa exam mo?”

“Hun,” I pleaded. “This is for my future.”

“But that’s not your future,” he snapped. “I am.”

“Kapal mo. ”

“Dali,” he said, looking at his watch. “Hatid kita dito by 4pm.”

“3 pm.”

“No. 4pm. Take it or leave it.”

“Leche.”

“You love me, right?”

I closed my sketchpad loudly.

“Utot mo.”

“I’ll take that as a yes. Five minutes ka lang a!”

“Minadali pa ko amp!”


“Wait!”

“Ano na naman? Ambagal bagal mo!” I snapped. Pinababa nya ko rito sa park for some reason. Gusto lang daw magswing. Tama ba yun? Pinatigil ako mag aral for my FINALS tapos eto. Gusto lang magbata-bataan ulit!

Pasalamat siya…

Out of nowhere, pinatalikod niya ako tapos tinakpan nya yung mata ko.

“Aidan Mikhail, pag hindi—

“Pag hindi mo alam kung bakit kita dinala dito, FAIL ka.”

OOOPS.
Ano ibig nya sabihin?

“See. Fail ka nga.”

“Patay ako neto.”

“Buti alam mo.”

“Ano gagawin mo?”

“HOY!” shouted Aidan to someone I couldn’t see. “Bakit mo nilabas yan? Kunin mo yung mas malaking paddle!”

“Hun,” I said, nervous. “Are you recruiting me in a--?!”

“Sorry teddy bear,” he told me. “It’s kind of a rite of passage.”

“AIDAN—

CLICK!

“What?”

He opened my eyes and I was completely appalled to see not a group of guys holding paddles, but all my friends in a circle, holding letters that spelled out:

“HAPPY ANNIVERSARY.”

I jumped and hugged him.

“If I never knew you…
If I never felt this love…
I would have no inkling of how precious life can be…”

“Sino yun?!” I asked, looking around.

“Si Lance saka si Ria. Pinakanta ko nalang sila, di ako marunong kumanta eh ”

“AWWW! The song!” I squealed shamelessly. “Badtrip ka!”

“Sabi mo gusto mo Pocahontas?!”

“OO NGA! PUTIK KINIKILIG AKO E!”

“Haha murahin ba ako!”

“I LOVE YOU!” I shouted, planting a kiss on his cheek.

Tumawa siya tapos inakbayan nya ako while we watched Lance sing while playing on a makeshift keyboard. He gave us a quick thumbs-up as he sang.

“And if I never held you
I would never have a clue
How at last I’d find in you
The missing part of me…”

“Can I have this dance?”

“Parang prom lang a!”

“Oo nga! Kung di naman dahil sa prom, wala eh. Hahaha!”

“Sure!”

We swayed on the spot, dancing in circles. Liam and Jonathan made whistling noises as I saw them. Sila Denise, Maffy at Gellie naman, andun sa tabi, nagbabarbecue.

“KISS!” Rafa taunted. “KISSSSS!”

“Mamaya!” Aidan yelled back, then he turned to me. “Pero kung gusto mo ngayon na okay lang rin. XD”

“In this world so full of tears…
Full of rage and lies
I could see the truth so clear,
In your eyes, so dry your eyes…”


“And I’m so grateful to you,” Aidan sang (or recited, haha he’s such a bad singer) softly in my ear. “I’d have lived my whole life through lost forever… If I never knew you…”

I tightened my grip on his hand.

“Thank you, Aidan,” I said. “Sobrang thank you.”

“Only the best for you.”

He gave me a quick kiss on my nose.

“Ba’t dun?”

“Atat ka?”

“Ang daya mo.”

“Edi ikaw na lang.”

“Hindi kita abot e!”

He laughed aloud and then he kissed me.
Walangyang to. Pakipot amputs.

“O, mamaya na ulit,” sabi nya after breaking off. “Masyado na sila kikiligin.”

“Pake ko?” I teased, smiling. “Edi kiligin sila dyan. ”

The voice of the singer changed…

“If I never knew you
I’d be safe but half as real…
Never knowing I could feel
A love so strong and true
I’m so grateful to you… I’d have lived my whole life through…”

I couldn’t resist laughing as I watched Lance gaze longingly at Ria as the latter sang, as though she was the only thing he could see.
Eto namang si Ria lumingon din. Tapos nagblush. HAHA!
Ang kulit ng dalawang to. Nakisali daw ba sa amin. Epal eh.

Jokelang!

“Lost forever… if I never knew you…”

“Hindi naman nila feel na feel yung kanta no?” I asked Aidan. “Patingin tingin effect pa. ”

“Hindi yan effect. Totoo na yan.”

“Salamat naman,” I replied, smiling. “Pag hindi pa totoo yan, ihuhulog ko na sila sa La Mesa Dam.”

“I thought our love would be so beautiful
Somehow we’d make the whole world right
I never knew that fear and hate could be so strong
All they'd place us were these whispers in the night
But still my heart is saying we were right…”

“So… paano pala kung di mo ko nakilala?”

“Corny mo,” I replied. “Tinagalog mo lang yung kanta eh.”

“Boo. KJ,” sabi nya then inirapan nya ako. “Kinalimutan mo na ngang anniv natin ngayon tas ganyan ka.”

“Ang cheesy mo kasi!”

“Bahala ka, pag nag Law School na ko, hindi na ko pwedeng maging cheesy.”

“As if naman kaya mo kong tiisin. Diba, Attorney Lennox?”

He smiled broadly.

“Pag ako na si Atty Lennox… magiging Mrs. Lennox ka ha?”

“Are you proposing to me? ”

“Yeah. Pero wala pa kong pambili ng singsing so magtiis ka sa verbal contract. ”

“Walangya.”

“Kaya pag di ka tumupad sa usapan, I’ll sue you.”

“Ahuh?” I teased. “Ano naman mangyayari pag naconvict ako?”

“Lifetime sentence. In my arms, that is. ”

“ASUS!”

He hugged me tightly as we still danced, unmindful of anything else.

“Empty as the sky
Never knowing why…
Lost forever… If I never knew you…”

Lance and Ria ended the song nicely, looking in each other’s eyes as they did.

Pero mas cute kami, okay?

“Kain na tayo.”

“Huh?”

“Nagutom ako sa amoy ng barbecue!”

“Sige, tara. To talagang luto ni Maffy oo,” he said, shaking his head. “Inaagaw ka sakin e.”


Ria’s POV

“Orange juice?”

Looking up, I saw Lance handing me a bottle of Minute Maid.

“Thanks.”

Umupo siya sa tabi ko, then tuloy kami ng pagkain.

Aidan had arranged this surprise for Elle about a month ago. Kinunchaba na agad kaming lahat. Sobrang sweet, leche. Kung alam lang ni Elle kung gaano siya kaswerte sa ugok na yun. HAHA!

“Mukhang natuwa naman si Elle, no?”

“Naku. Hindi nga e. Tingnan mo o. Nakangiti mag-isa. ”

“Ang sama mo! Hehe. Wait lang. Gusto mo ba ng sample exam ng Math 100 finals?”

My eyes went 0_0
Sorry. Nerd much.

“Meron ka? WEH?

“Oo ako pa. Magaling ako. ”

“Puts! Pa-photocopy ako? Please?”

“Okay sige. Kaso nasa bahay e, pwede mo kunin dun mamaya.”

“Ahhh. Mmm. Pwede bukas?” I asked. “May pupuntahan kasi ako after this.”

“Ah, saan? Gusto mo samahan kita?”

“Wag na. Okay lang naman ako.”

“Sigurado ka?” he asked, looking at the bandage on my forehead. “Have you had your check-up?”

“Yup. Okay na. Hindi naman masyadong nakalog yung utak ko, no worries. ”

“Sus, matagal naman nang kalog yung utak mo no. ”

“Ang shet mo a. HAHA.”

“But seriously, okay ka na?”

“Oo nga,” I said, tas tinap ko yung buhok niya. “No need to worry.”

“Good,” he said, then he folded his paper plate and threw it into the trash bin. “After ng Math 100 finals, free ka na?”

“Oo. Bakit?”

“Mmm. Summer class, meron ka?”

“Wala. Ikaw ba?”

“Wala rin. Eh…”

Napatulala siya bigla.

“Anong meron ba?” I asked, amused at his hesitant manner.

“Wala lang. Kasi may ano… may gagawin ako sa Milan, fashion week… ah eh…”

He scratched his head.

“Parehas kami ni Rafa nagraramp, alam mo yun diba? Tatanungin niya rin si Gellie… eh kasi may go-see next week, naisip namin, isama kayo, para makaramp din kayo for Benetton… tapos 2 weeks free accomodation dun. Sayang kasi e, malaki rin pay, and matutuwa si Tita Marj…”

“So… you’re asking me to go to Milan with you?”

“Parang ganun. Haha. Oo.”

“Eh paano kung wala pala akong visa? ”

“Madali lang yun, si Tita Marj pa! Chicken lang yun sa kanya!”

“Edi sige. Tanungin ko lang parents ko.”

“Gusto mo ipagpaalam kita?”

“Hindi wag na. Kaya na yun! ”

“Kung sabagay, ako naman yung kasama mo. Papayag na yun! HAHA!”

“Kapal ng fez forever ” I replied, tapos sinapok ko siya. “Sige na. Aalis muna ako.”

“Hatid kita?”

“Wag na! Punta na lang ako sa inyo bukas.”

“Ano oras?”

“Bahala na. Tatawagan na lang kita. Kabilang street ka lang naman e. Sige babay na! ”

With a hug, I bid him and my friends good-bye.


DING! DONG!

A uniformed maid went to meet me.

“Pasok po,” she said, opening the gate.

“No need,” I replied. “Andyan ba si Gelo?”

“Wala po.”

“Okay. Pwede mo ba akong tulungan?”

“Saan po?”

I led her to my car’s compartment. Binuksan ko yun at kinuha yung pagkalaki-laking laman nun, tapos inabot ko sa kanya.

“A— Ano pong gagawin ko rito?”

Halos natabunan na nung teddy bear yung buong mukha niya. While she was at it, ibinaba ko na rin sa may paa niya yung box ng sapatos na kahit kelan hindi ko nagamit.

“Masyado nang puno yung kwarto ko, wala nang space para diyan,” I told her while closing my compartment. “Sabihin mo sa amo mo, sorry. Hindi ko na kamo kailangan ng excess baggage.”

“Pero Ma’am…”

“Ikaw na bahala. Siguro dun mo na lang ibigay sa bago niya pagdating nila dito mamaya.”

“Ma’am, pagagalitan po ako ni Sir…”

I threw her a cold look.

“Hindi ko na problema yun.”


Lance’s POV

ACK!
Naknampota! MY EYES!

“Nanay She!” I yelled, hiding myself under the blankets for she had opened the curtains and too much sunlight was flooding in. “It’s too early!”

“Says who? It’s eight na oh!”

I immediately shook the blanket off upon recognizing that voice.

“What on EARTH—

“Breakfast in bed!!!” she shouted happily, putting a tray right in front of me.

My mouth watered at the very sight of it.
CARAMEL WAFFLES.
I must be in heaven.

“Made it myself,” she said proudly, taking a seat beside me. “Yuck. What’s that on your—?

HOLYCRAP.
May muta pa yata ako.

“I’ll wash my face nga. Tabi dyan,” I said jokingly, then I went to the bathroom to clean up. Nakakahiya kasi. HAHA. Tama ba naman kasing pumunta dito ng ganitong oras?!

“Bagay pala sayo bed hair!” she shouted from outside. “Ganyan ka na lagi ah!”

“Sus! Kahit ano naman bagay sakin eh. ”

She laughed.

“Tagal mo ah! Nagmemake up ka ba? ” she asked at the top of her voice. “Di mo na kailangan magpagwapo! Masyado ka nang gwapo para sakin! HAHAHA LABO.”

Anak ng. Kinilig ako amputs.

“Andyan na! Atat ka e!”

Lumabas ako while wiping my face with a towel. She was playing with the flower na nandun kasama nung breakfast ko sa tray.

“Okay yang waffles ah,” I commented. “Anong nakain mo? ”

“Yabang mo a! Ano ayaw mo no?”

“Hinde ah! Akin na nga yan!”

Kinuha ko yung tray tas nilagay ko sa bedside table para maligpit yung kama ko. Ang hassle kaya nung nakakalat yung kumot saka mga unan. Nakakahiya. Isipin pa nito messy ako. Mahirap naaaa.

“Bakit mo tinabi yung luto ko? ALAT!”

“Teka lang kasi! Magliligpit ako!”

“Ayoko nga.”

Umupo siya dun sa bed bigla. Hindi ko tuloy mahila yung kumot.
ANG KULIT AH.

“Tabi kasi dyan!”

She folded her arms and pouted, shooting me an ‘I-hate-you’ glance.
I pulled the blanket again, but she wouldn’t budge.

“Ano ba? Wag na kasi makulit!”

Her frown vanished and then she pulled my hand instead.

“Halika nga.”

“What’re you doing?”

“Come here.”

She pulled me even closer to her, forcing me to sit. Lying down, she stretched her arms out wide, then seductively propped her head on one arm, looking at me with this little impish grin on her face.

“Mmm…”

She bit her lip and toyed with the scarf on her neck.

“Maybe this one’s supposed to go first.”

I gulped.

“What?”

“It’s getting a bit hot, isn’t it?” she asked, smiling. “No need for a scarf…”

“Ehhrr…”

“Can you take it off for me?” she whispered, putting her other hand on mine, leading it closer to her.

I obliged, feeling the blood come up to my face. Using both hands, I untied the knot, and was not ready for what came next.
