My Life is my Novel
[/b]
Summer is about to be over! The weather is not that hot anymore and rains are starting to fall. But we have to admit that this summer was the longest we’ve ever had. It was an almost three full months of vacation. Every one of us had their fair share of summer adventure but some are still at it. To remind you, we only have less than two weeks to enjoy it. We have to keep ourselves busy with fun activities. I’m pretty sure senior year will be hell a lot crazier! But it’s still going to be a year of full load. More and better parties will probably be thrown. On the other hand we have college applications to fill, college exams to pass, more subjects that has math in it and most of all our future is being beheld. So don’t forget to load up with the relaxation of this glorious summer.
Summer Loving.
It’s good that everyone seems to do what I have advised –keeping themselves busy.
K may have been finished with her review classes but it doesn’t mean all she does now is lurking around. She actually keeps herself busy with fashion illustration, sewing and bonding with her friend. It is wise of her to follow me. But here’s the twist, it’s not her little friend
R –it’s her pal
P. People have been spotting them hanging out and it seemed like they were simply catching up.
P may have been with
K but she can also be seen with he boyfriend
A, who just finished his summer classes. So where was
R?
R has been spotted with
C –all the time. It’s probably because they go to the same review classes.
E, who didn’t take any review classes or what-so-ever is always spotted at the Promenade –alone. He actually just finished his badminton and swimming training. It’s nice of him to keep in shape. As if he needed one and he does play well in every sport there is. And me? These people are obviously keeping me busy! I’m always busy with everything anyway.
I received this quite interesting e-mail yesterday.
Hey
A!
I heard that princess J is coming home this Sunday. She totally didn’t enjoy her exchange student program because the dorm room she stayed in didn’t meet her standards. I just wanted to let you know. –cheese
Cheese,
You didn’t think I didn’t know that. J is a friend of mine. It doesn’t matter anymore if she didn’t enjoy it. It’s her fault that she didn’t do something she could enjoy. Speaking about joy, E might rejoice about this news. And oh yeah, why did you call yourself cheese? -A
Till then.
-Agyness it’s fun to reminisce “All I did yesterday was to think of a storyline,” Kaitlin Crawford complained to her friend Penelope Sawyer. They were walking to Starbucks in matching Ray-Ban Wayfarers knock-offs they bought on the street. They both decided to hang out together since they’re finished with their review classes. While walking, the humid air blew their hair wildly. Kaitlin gathered her long black hair and swept it to her right shoulder while Penelope wore a pink bucket hat so that her newly cut bob won’t fly.
“Yeah, it has been boring these past few days. At you had something worth it to do,” Penelope agreed and checked her phone if there were any new messages. “I’m sick of watching TV and surfing the net.”
They ordered their usual doughnuts that were almost as good as Krispy Kreme’s original honey glazed and mango puree. It was crowded at Starbucks since the La Sallites are back to school already. There were no seats left so they decided to walk back to Penelope’s place.
“I’m a little scared about the college entrance thing,” Kaitlin blurted out. It has been bothering her anyway. She’s afraid that she might not get into her dream school, Ateneo. Her grades are good but her math will surely bring her down. What is she didn’t do so well on the test and they might think she’s not good enough.
The pressure is truly getting on our nerves, doesn’t it?
“So am I,” Penelope said and sipped her drink. “I don’t even know what I would take.
“Me too, I’m still confused,” Kaitlin exclaimed. That entire college thing exhausts her. Now she understands why the seniors are all crazy. They all had to go through it and it simply drives you insane.
They settled on the steps of Penelope’s townhouse. It was quiet in her neighborhood. The weather wasn’t hot and the clouds are slowly covering the sun. They relaxed there, sipping their drinks and loved the feel of the cool breeze.
“I miss the days where life was so much simpler,” Penelope broke the silence. It hit Kaitlin and suddenly she had several flashback images of her younger years. “I remember those days in freshman year.”
“Those days were the best! I had a lot of happy memories during that year,” Kaitlin sighed and thought of the life they used to have. “The only problem we had was Algebra!”
“Mrs. Marin may be the strictest teacher but she’s good,” Penelope and said and laughed.
“Yeah, I remember there was a time she asked me to say ‘I love math!’ for five times,” Kaitlin remembered. Mrs. Marin asked her to do that when she said “yes” loud enough for the teacher to hear her out of relief when the bell rang.
They both laughed at those memories. They sure did learn a lot in freshman year. I was like a whole new dimension. It wasn’t just the uniform that changed. There was more fun and freedom. Even the lessons felt easier and the guys and the girls started to get along very well.
That’s the best thing being in a co-ed school.
“But there’s one thing I would never forget,” Penelope said slowly. She took a long sip of her juice before she spoke again. “If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t be with Alex.”
The infamous Alex Namien. He was every girl’s fantasy, the perfect dream boy. He was a good basketball player, a three-point shooter to be exact. His eyes, they were the best, the most gorgeous and innocent black eyes you’ll ever see in Branford High. Eyes that is so mysterious. His eyes show right away that he is shy and quiet. But they are a total give away of his emotions at times. His body is lean, totally average and he is standing five foot and eight inches so there’s nothing special. He may not have a six-pack but he is in the league of gorgeousness. He was a senior already when they met him in their freshman year. He is currently an upcoming third year student in USC taking up Business Management.
Being a college guy make him even hotter.
All the fun started in Teacher’s Day. Who would have thought that in a simple occasion big or unusual things would happen? So it all started in that day of September…
Kaitlin and Penelope reminisce that day. Most of the kids their class was busy. The girls were preparing for their dance number. A few of the nerds were ready to substitute as teachers, the boys were huddled which I have no idea what they were doing and some are just there hanging around. Kaitlin and her then best friend Jamilyn was sitting on the steps of the gymnasium. They were sharing an iPod and simply let time fly by. Kaitlin got bored so she checked in what was happening inside. As she opened the big wooden door, she didn’t expect that someone would be there. And it wasn’t just someone but the someone. It was Wilbur Lee.
“I surely had a huge crush on him,” Kaitlin grinned as she remembered. She still can’t forget how he said “Hi!” to her. She found it surprising because the last time they talked was like a year ago of that day. They used to talk to each other when he was a sophomore and her in fifth grade. But things have changed; he got serious with his girlfriend and grew older. He was a senior at that time and she was a freshman. Now that she thought of him she misses his sort of wavy black hair, his Chinese features and crooked smile. She will never ever forget their moments as friends. He used to really make her smile. He probably thought she was cute. She was young then, with right down the shoulder black hair, her teeth were in braces and her feet were clad in high cut boots. Those were the happy days.
I bet they were.
“I didn’t know about that happening!” Penelope teased and ate the last bite of her doughnut.
“Of course you didn’t know,” Kaitlin paused and sipped her drink only to find out it was already empty. “You had a much interesting memory of that day.”
“But it wasn’t exactly my moment,” Penelope tried to explain. “It was him who saw me.”
“It may not be yours but you absolutely involve in it,” Kaitlin pointed out. She even pointed the straw of her drink to Penelope.
“Well it does involve me but it’s not like my fault he saw me dance,” Penelope explained again.
“Whatever!” Kaitlin teased. “I wasn’t even able to see that dance, Jamilyn and I went to the canteen and missed it.
They were talking about how fell for Penelope. It was during the Teacher’s Day program that Alex caught sight of Penelope and suddenly fell for her. He is a good example of love at first sight experience. Alex still can’t explain how he felt that time. All he remembers was that he saw Penelope for the very first time and suddenly liked her so much. He asked a few people who she was, he even cyber stalked her and loved the way she danced.
Love at first sight is truly the hardest love drug.
A few days after the Teacher’s Day, Kaitlin overheard Penelope and a classmate talking about Alex. Kaitlin was familiar with the names in that certain upper class batch. So when Penelope saw her she suddenly asked her and told her about the Alex thing. Though all Kaitlin could share was what he looks like, that he plays basketball well and how she knew those things. She knew him by name and face because of her then best friend Jamilyn whose sister was in that batch. And with that conversation they started to get become close friends.
Then one day, it just happened that Jamilyn talked to her sister. And the next thing Kaitlin knows she was talking to Alex about Penelope. That memory was a bit blur and all she could remember was that she told him “She doesn’t have a boyfriend, they broke up last month.” Thus, how things began with Kaitlin and Alex.
In a month, Kaitlin became the informer to Alex. Though he doesn’t ask a lot of things, just simple ones like “How is she today?” or “Did she asked about me?” It wasn’t often also but Kaitlin shares it all to Penelope. She was like the bridge in their gap and Kaitlin felt like a spy. She enjoyed doing it and she became more observant because of it. However she has to admit she was a tiny bit jealous of Penelope. She was able to bag a hot guy. And he wasn’t just a hot guy but a good guy too. Kaitlin and Alex were still a bit of a stranger to each other before because Alex could seriously be mysterious at times. It was also the reason why Kaitlin and Penelope called him “Mystery Guy.”
Mystery Guy. Hmm… Definitely a mystifying codename.
During those times, Kaitlin and Penelope started to talk often. It was always about Alex of course. While Alex suddenly decided to ask help from Kaitlin. With that favor, thing have changed with Kaitlin. They started to talking more and more at school, they text message each other and he even taught Kaitlin to use Yahoo Messenger so it would be easier for them to communicate. Kaitlin became more of a best friend to Alex than his bridge to Penelope. He tells her everything. They became really good friends to each other.
A hot senior guy for a best friend, what a jackpot!
There was a time Alex felt like he was losing hope on Penelope. Penelope was sort of playing it hard for him though it was obvious that she liked him back. Kaitlin was there to support him. One afternoon, the hanged out at the steps of Branford High giving each other a good company. People actually stared at them but they didn’t care. Their faces showed no emotion and they were talking in whispers. But Alex was actually pouring his heart out right then and there. His heart was shattered into small pieces but it was only visible to Kaitlin. They just sat there looking blank yet mysterious. Only the two of them knew what was going on.
During those times, Alex may have been struggling to catch Penelope’s heart however he knew Kaitlin would be there for him no matter what. He gained a loyal friend as he suits his true love.
“He used to tell me a lot about his life,” Kaitlin said to herself. She misses being close with Alex. Of course she doesn’t want Penelope to know that. She tried hard to keep her emotions to herself so she stared at her nails instead to hide it. “I remember, one time he sent me this link of a man singing “Jingle Bells” and at the middle of his performance the song played backwards and the man was screaming,” Kaitlin said instead of blurting out her thoughts. She laughed at the thought of it. That video made her scream out loud. It wasn’t really scary but it surprised her a lot. Alex laughed at her when she told him about her reaction. Those times.
I agree. Those times with Alex were the best.
“Kaitlin isn’t that your car?” Penelope asked unsurely. She was pointing to a black Toyota Vios that was coming. Time passed by them. They didn’t notice that they have been sitting there for more than an hour. The sun was already low, casting shadows of the plants in front of Penelope’s townhouse.
“Yeah, it is,” Kaitlin said and stood. “It seems that time did it again. It passed by.” She grabbed her trash and threw it at the trash can near the door. Kaitlin hugged Penelope goodbye. “Text me,” Kaitlin said and walked towards the car.
“I had a great time,” Penelope shouted as Kaitlin got into her car. She waved and saw that Kaitlin waved back inside the cars. Penelope sighed and felt fuzzy. It has been a long time since she had a long talk with a friend and especially about the past. She looked at her phone and found out it was already past five in the afternoon.
Kaitlin sunk to the backseat and leaned to the upholstery. She hasn’t thought of her past for awhile. Even if she did it wouldn’t be about those early days of helping Alex. Years have passed since freshman year and here she was days away from her senior year.
Senior year doesn’t sounds cool anymore, does it?
