We have this pun back when I was still reviewing for the Nursing boards: "Biguerlai = big lie". Initially, it'll help you na maging regular ang pagdumi mo or hindi ka mahirapan dumumi. But the thing is, in the long run, there's a huge possibility that you'll develop laxative-dependency syndrome and, worst case scenario, rebound constipation. I'm not trying to give you a scare or anything, I'm just laying out the possibilities whenever we're taking something. Lahat naman kasi ng iinumin or kakainin natin, may effect talaga sa body, hindi lang tayo sure na palaging positive or negative effect.
However, back when I had my Pharmacy subject, the safest form of laxative, you can ask any doctor as well, is bulk-forming laxatives. If you want to easily understand the concept of bulk laxatives, you can read this article:
http://www.suite101.com/article.cfm/herbal_medicine/49454Most of the "herbal teas" kasi have the components of stimulant laxatives kaya mas malaki ang side effect and adverse reaction compared to bulk-forming laxatives, which maximizes the natural movement of the colon. But you have to drink LOTS and LOTS of fluids for this one. I'm not sure kung anong brand name ang available na bulk laxative dito sa Pilipinas but the popular brand in HK and US is Metamucil with Pfizer as the manufacturer.
But just like what I've said earlier, every thing that we consume always has an effect to our body. Just like Newton's law of motion, for every action, there is always an equal or opposite reaction.
