“SHE interrupted US in my room! We were doing it when she banged in and pointed her wet PJ’s. It’s CRAZY.” I could feel his anger as well as his nervousness. “Today is our first anniversary and this kid just ruined the mood.”

“Calm down Jason.”

“Just go here and take her… away from us.”

“You know I can’t” I almost whispered. “I’m on a date with Ryan. But I will do that early tomorrow. I’ll call the police.””

“Argh. YOU OWE ME, BIGTIME!” He hung up.

14 HOURS EARLIER…

“Japan.” Jason’s eyes widened. “Yes Jason, from Asia. This little girl is probably about to go home to Japan when Bada—whoever he or she is, either purposely or not, left her. I can’t understand a single word she says but I know it’s Japanese.”

“Then how did she speak English last night? And why is her name English?”

“I don’t know why her name is Angel.” I looked at Angel who started to look worried. “Maybe she knows only a few sentences in English. But you see, when we cooked pancakes she read the Japanese thing in the label fluently. And when I showed her Japan, she smiled widely.”

“This is unbelievable. They probably are in a vacation or something. Japan is like thousands of miles away from here.” He took a bite of the pancake. “Asian. Hmm… Yes she looks like one. Oh, is there a passport or ticket in her bag?”

“None, just clothes. Angel, bada is your mama?”

Angel just tilted her head. “Ba-da?”

“Bada is your daddy?”

“Baaaa-daaa.” She said slowly then gestured a no. “Baaadaaa.”

“I bet you’ll go crazy with that girl Ysabel.” I glared at him. “What? She doesn’t understand. Anyway, hurry or be late sis.” He stood and put his plate in the dishwasher.

“I’m taking the day off in school today because I’m going to a date tonight. HA-HA.” Jason seemed interested all of a sudden. You know the brothers, they act like dads. “It’s Ryan.” He just nodded and went away. Psh. Weird.

I spent my day daydreaming about what would happen on my first date with my long-time crush and of course teaching Angel the rules in the house.

“You don’t cook.” I said the words slowly and with actions. “You will not cook.” She looked confused. “Whatever. Just don’t touch the oven and the stove.”

*RING RING*

“Just wait here okay?” I went to the phone. “Good afternoon.”

“Ysabel?”

“Ryan, hey. What made you call?” My fingers were crossed because he might cancel the date.

“Uh—I was—am thinking if you got the note…” I smiled. “The date tonight?”

“Yes I got it.”

“GREAT! I’ll see you later okay?” I saw Angel playing with the dress I’d wear on my date.

“NO! Get your hands off—”

“Come again Ysa?” Oh crap.

“I mean yes. I will go. Of course I will. Thanks.”

“I am excited to see you there.” I blushed. “Okay, bye bye and take care.”

As soon as he hung up, I grabbed the dress from Angel. “You don’t play with my dress okay?” She just raised her eyebrows.

Six o’clock came and Jason was already preparing dinner for him and her girlfriend, Jenna. At the same time, I was in my room doing my make-up with Angel. “What color suits this?” Angel handed me the purple eye shadow and I used it.

When I was done I went to the living room and saw that Jason lit candles around the place. “Romantic isn’t it?” I nodded. “Now go! Jenna will arrive in a couple of minutes. I don’t want you here.” He looked at Angel. “You. Stay in her room okay? Do not go out. Just stay there.” Angel tilted her head again but went to my room still.

“Do you think she got that?” I gestured a no. “Tsk. Go away.”

I came out and saw Ryan. He looked perfect. “What kind of dress is that?” I was shocked when he said that.

“I knew it’s not good on me.” I told him and was about to go back to change.

“No. It’s sexy. I love your shoulders.” I wore an off shoulder dress that end on my knees. He took my hand. “Come on Ysa.”

We ate in a fine dining restaurant and we really had fun. Afterwards, we went to the park for a walk.

“I know it’s crazy but it’s the only way to get rid of that girl.” He laughed. We were talking about his past affair.

“You didn’t like her then?”

“No. Yeah, I liked her when we first met. But the feeling just went away.” He looked at me intently as if trying to devour me. “Unlike you. I already had the feeling when we first met in college and I just couldn’t remove it.”

The aura was becoming different. I didn’t look at him instead I joked. “Oh yeah, the feeling of having a room mate who is a total geek.” I smiled and clasped my hands.

Ryan stopped walking and said, “No. The feeling of liking someone. Ysabel, can’t you feel it? I’ve liked you since the first day.”

I looked back. Oh, just look at him. He looked divine in his expression. “And I am falling in love with you every single day…”

TOTAL SHOCK

I, for sure, looked like a red tomato ready to be sliced. “Uh…” Should I tell him I like him too?

He moved closer. “Um, you don’t have to answer. It’s just; I want you to know that.” After those words, I was so sure he was staring on my lips. “May I?”

“I’m afra—” He leaned closer and closer.

*RING RING*

“Excuse me Ryan.” I walked away and reached for my phone. It was Jason. “Argh. Better that be an emergency or I’ll kill you for spoiling my moment.”

“Before killing me, let me kill this kid.”

“Huh? Angel?”

“Yes. That kid just entered the room while I and Jenna were having… fun in my room.” My mouth opened in shock. “It was…” he cursed.

My lips curved to a smile. “Of course we will still continue…” He stood and he looked down on me then I bit my lip. “…our date.” I felt hot as his gray eyes met my green ones. He kissed my forehead and hugged me tightly for about ten seconds.

“It’s okay. I’ll bring you home now. I don't want to be of disturbance”

"No you are--"

"Sshhh. It's okay, let us go." We returned to the car holding each other’s hand.

“Thanks for the night Ry.”

“Yeah. It’s great. Thank you too.”

I stepped back. “Goodnight.”

He pulled something from his pocket and walked towards me. “Goodnight Ysa.” He opened my hand and put the paper then ran away.

I opened the note. “I’m gonna court you. No isn’t taken as an answer. –Ryan” I grinned then walked towards the door as I prayed.

“Thank you for what is happening. Thank you for sending…” the door opened and there was Angel smiling at me. “…Angel to me.” I knelt and smiled at her. “I’m not gonna let you go away my Angel.”
