Where do people go after death?
« on: April 05, 2008, 11:54:37 pm »

Religions have mention that after death, people will either go to heaven, hell, or get reincarnated. (what i know of).
what do you guys think?
where do people go after death?

I am really hoping of going to heaven, rest for a while, then get reincarnated!  :)

The Catholic Church is humble enough to admit uncertainty as to whether one's soul will go to heaven or hell or purgatory

I've always heard of this thing place called the purgatory.
How does it work, in your belief?

uh, sorry i had to delete my post. may uhm, let's say, doctrinal error.  ;D

but okay, to answer: souls in purgatory are of those people who died in the state of grace, but who are stained with venial sin nonetheless.

mejo complicado ang catholic theology pag dating sa ganyan, so i'd rather not speak with uncertainty.

nasagot ko yun kasi the Church can never condemn one's soul to  eternal damnation.

Medyo complicated nga siguro. Guess I'd have to be a Catholic to fully understand the purgatory thing. hehe

What are the cases for "death on the state of grace"?

i don't really believe in purgatory because there's nothing said about it in the Bible.

i have also thought about the possibility that when you die, that's it. nothing. period. it's over. it can happen.

but while you're not sure, i think it's better to live a life believing there is a God and dying to find out there's none, than to live a godless life and dying to find out there is one.

Not actually with venial sin, but a soul who has his temporal punishment due to sin unexpiated will go to Purgatory. That means he has already asked forgiveness of his sins but the effects of those sins on him has not yet been done, thus Purgatory.

Sheol/Hades would roughly correspond to Purgatory.

Jesus mentions Hades quite a few times. Luke 16 is quite definite in identifying Sheol. Jesus actually differentiates between Sheol/Hades and Gehenna--Gehenna is hellfire reserved for Satan and his angels. Sheol in Judaism is the abode of the dead. Sheol transliterated to Greek would be Hades then. You can see by the terms alone the difference between Gehenna and Sheol/Hades.
