Callalily Sees The Clear Picture With "Fisheye"
By Sony BMG Music Entertainment
March 13, 2008
Like the fisheye lens that takes in an extremely wide and hemispherical image, young band Callalily looks to life now with a bigger perspective. What with the things these five talented college students have achieved in more than a year. It was not too long ago that vocalist Kean Cipriano, bassist Aaron Ricafrente, lead guitarist Alden Acosta, rhythm guitarist Tatsi Jamnague and drummer Lemuel Belaro were just playing in gigs as a struggling band until angels brought them to where they are right now. A management contract, a recording deal with Sony BMG, a debut album ("Destination XYZ" which turned Gold), five number one singles ("Stars," "Take My Hand," "Magbalik," "Pasan" and "Sanctuary."), endorsements, nominations (Favorite Artist, Favorite Group and Favorite Music Video at MYX Music Awards), screaming fans and countless gigs—all chronologically happened as fast as a boomerang.
"We are so thankful for the warm reception and the chance to be part of music history," Alden said.
That is why for their sophomore album, the unanimous choice was to entitle it "Fisheye."
"It is named after the camera lens that broadens the landscape. In the same way, we approach the same things with a different point of view," Alden said.
Fisheye promises to have more musical elements compared to their last album.
"For this album, we put incorporated synth, violin, keyboards, percussions and latin beats. Lyrically, we think were able to fully explain what we want to say here in 'Fisheye'," Lemuel said.
The members themselves painstakingly wrote and composed all 15 songs in the album produced by 6cyclemind's Rye Sarmiento and Ney Dimaculangan.
"Rye produced our first album 'Destination XYZ' and it was great working with him again. For 'Fisheye,' he got exactly what we wanted our album to sound. Ney is such a joy to work with. He was full of ideas and was not afraid to try new things," Kean said.
"Fisheye" features the carrier single "Susundan" which according to Kean is about "following someone you love who left without word of warning."
Other tracks which describes their life as musicians, students and sons include their answer to their hit single "Magbalik"-"Ako'y Babalik;" "Dito Ka Lang," a song about illusions; "Fake Lullabies," "Hintay," which they describe as "Magbalik's" continuation; "Inside My Heart;" "Isabel," a track on forbidden love; "Jewelry Box;" "Luha" and "Lumbay," which is about hope and temporary sadness respectively; Kean's song dedicated to his bandmates" "Shine;" the encouraging "Song For The Youth;" "A Starry Night," "Trapped Inside The Moment" and "Tunay Na Ligaya."
"With all our experiences in this industry whether good or bad, through this album, we think we found ourselves," Alden said.
"Fisheye" is now out in CDs at leading record stores nationwide under Sony BMG Music Entertainment. For more information on Callalily, log on to
