CHAPTER 37
"Surprise!"
:~Me ;P~:
***Samantha's POV***Days buzzed by with Lucy being her usual recent self. We can’t get the chance to speak with her because she was practically avoiding us. And above all, it’s also because Mark seemed to erupt like a volcano whenever he’s about to see her.
As from what I’ve seen… Lucy seemed to have gathered her own set of friends—which was unfortunately, those despiteful girls that we have come to know in our batch.
Things are getting strange.*
thinks of Luke* …and awkward.
I should add more that Mark
really is having a hard time restraining himself. He badly wanted to choke Lucy and bring her back to her senses—it’s what he was constantly saying and planning for days.
Friday. It was the 15th of the month and the typical date where we usually get together and have fun as close friends. It was a school day, so when classes ended, we resorted to this certain restaurant near our school.
All of us were present—except of course, for Lucy.
Mark let out a tiny squeal, “
Okay my sisters.... We shouldn’t bother about that b!tchy woman! Let’s forget about her, shall we? We need not to babble about her anymore! Let’s leave her corrupt mind be corrupted by more corrupt minds! She doesn’t want to talk to us, and neither would she want to apologize for that sudden effin’ behavior! So valooosh!”
Erica groaned, “
Thus said by the person who kept blabbering about Lucy for days.”
“
Whatever, little pumpkin.” Mark said, sticking his long slithery tongue out.
Ew.“
But it sure is a wonder why she’s suddenly acting like that, it’s an anonymity—everyone’s been talking about it at school,” Cindy said, “
Everyone is curious about the real reason why, and I had to punch—literally—a few underclassmen for spreading silly rumors.”
“
What rumors?”
“
That we were sort of ‘caging up’ Lucy and forcing her to wear those tomboy-ish outfit, and that she finally escaped from us, therefore flashing her new… ugh… slutty look!” Cindy exclaimed, waving her hands in the air in an aggravated manner, “
They say we were jealous of her, and I was all ‘excuse me b!tches? We aren’t!’”
“
Damn right, excuse me beeeetch!” Mark bellowed, “
Show me those little devils and I’ll give them a piece of my mind! Pronto!”
“
Mark, your heart! Your heart!” Erica exclaimed, stifling back a giggle.
“
You’re laughing at me, missy. You must not laugh at Queen M!” Mark muttered, narrowing his eyes at Erica.
“
I’m not.”
“
In any case, let’s not rot our mouths. Let’s ignore the girlie. Okay? Okay? PERIOD.”
We all nodded our heads in reply. Mark motioned for the waiter, and we started giving our orders. Luckily, we spent a substantial amount of time having fun and talking about random things—without mentioning Lucy of course. It’s just that when we speak of her, we always come out as irritated, bothered, and the works… and I don’t like that sort of ambiance within us anymore.
We sure miss Lucy, but with the cold way she’s acting toward us, we can’t help but just despise her a little bit.
“
Hey Sam, where is baby love?” Mark asked out of the blue—and I had to stop myself from spitting out the Cola that I just drank.
I looked at him, trying to conjure up a very neutral face especially since I noticed the silly grin he was wearing. “
Baby what?”
“
Luke.”
“
Oh… He had to work on something. Some sort of punishment that Mr. Solar gave him or somewhat… I really have no idea…” I replied, trying hard to sound very, very, nonchalant.
“
Oooooh. I see… I see…” Mark said in a very cutesy yet manly voice, “
You sure know everything about him huh.”
My nerves perked. “
What are you… trying to imply, huh, bes?”
Mark laughed, “
Nothing… Nothing… Love really is a mysterious thing; don’t you think so, Erica?”
“
Uh-huh,” Erica muttered, nodding her head.
I looked at them in alarm, “
I’m not in love with him! I’m not! I’M NOT!”
Okay, I know this is foolish, but I just feel like denying it to them a little bit more.I haven't told them the details of last week either...Because I have to prove something; if Luke... *gulp* does love me too.
Boys sure are devils these days. Dad tells me that for numerous times already so I must be really sure about Luke before I tell the whole details to my friends. Sure, I don’t see the whole point of delaying the story either—I just felt like it’s the right thing to do, so that if worse comes to worse, they won’t worry too much about me, I don’t want them to worry too much if I get hurt…
Don’t you think so? Do you get me?
I must say that after that weekend, everything started to get a little chummy for us (I and Luke). And sometimes it gets awkward too—especially since Dad is joining in on the teasing spree between the two of us. But we’re doing fine. He hasn’t asked me out yet or anything blah-blah. In my opinion, I think he’s taking things slow. And I agree to that, there’s nothing to rush.
Right?Besides, we do love each other’s company. ^__^
Oh my God. I can’t believe I’m saying this.
What did Luke do to my old Samantha self?
Anyway, back to the moment. After I said those words, the three of them started giggling like monkeys and it ticked me off.
“
I knew it! I knew it!” Mark exclaimed, “
Oh, by the way sister, we didn’t say anything about you falling in love with him or something. You brought that upon yourself. And that… is quite a revelation! Oh yeaaaah! UH-huh!”
I gasped, “
I do not! I mean…!”
Oh well.
They erupted once more into a giggling fit.
“
Okay, okay… Let’s stop teasing dear Sammie,” Mark said, “
She’ll soon admit it, as what I’ve said before.”
And then they laughed once more.
What crazy friends I have, huh? -.-
But they sure know me.
“
Bejesus, I’m full!” Mark exclaimed as we walked out of the restaurant, “
So Sammie, you’re going along with baby love eh? You guys are walking back home eh?”
“
Shut up.”
“
Awww. How sweet. Okay, let’s hurry girls, or else, darling Luke will get impatient,” Mark declared, “
Other than that, we really should hurry because Sammie dear might be getting impatient too. She looks extremely anxious in seeing Luke again!”
I flushed, “
I am not! Mark! Puh-lease! Stop doing this!”
Oh man, I’m surely into denial. But in actuality, I’m just not used to such corny or mushy things like this, and thus the reason why I really have to go into thi coy-denial-ugh mode.
“
Oh. I won’t,” he said, “
You look so cute when you blush like that so I just can’t stop, don’t you think so girls?”
“
Sure do,” Cindy agreed, “
It is fun teasing you.”
I only sighed… and hid a smile.

However, I spent a sorrowful walk back to school as Mark kept on taunting me, while Erica and Cindy played along with him—they didn’t even bother stopping him.
Can’t they see that I’m feeling
uneasy? And I really don’t like it that they’re teasing me. Sure I’m bringing this upon myself because I’m not admitting it to them yet—though it’s quite obvious anyway, but at least they would still get the message that I’m not that attached to him.
It’s confusing you, I know, but anyway that’s just how it is.
*blank face*
I’m an entirely confused human being.
Finally, we reached the front gates of the school. It was already nightfall, and there seemed to be no other sign of activity inside the campus—everyone must have all went back home, except of course, for Luke who must be waiting for us…err, for me. Hehe. I felt a little perturbed for letting him wait for me, really. But anyway, he was the one who insisted that he would wait, and walk me home… He always does that… He treats me so much like a child that he should protect…
Well… it’s not actually a bad thing. I actually like… what he was doing.
…*sigh* it’s really such a wonder for me right now…
He loves me too huh…?

Maybe?
All of a sudden, Luke came into view, illuminated by the light post that was in front of the school gates. Strangely and as usual, I felt a very
nice and warm feeling as I saw his face. Something about him really pleases me. I love seeing him.
However. My heart sank when I saw that he wasn’t alone.
We had to stop in our tracks because of what we saw… because of who he was with.
It was
Lucy.“
What is that b!tch doing together with my baby love?!” Mark hissed.
Lucy was standing in front of Luke, and her lips were moving—apparently talking to Luke. Duh.
“
They’re talking…” Cindy whispered.
“
Evidently.” Erica scoffed.
And then, it all happened so fast, but to me, it happened
very slowly…
That my world seemed to have revolved into that one little scene... digesting all of it… bit by bit… engraving the occurrence into my mind as I stood not so far away from them…
I saw Lucy take Luke’s face in her tiny claw-like hands. She tiptoed to be at level with him.
It was pure torture as I only managed to gaze from afar as their
lips pressed together…
Lucy’s eyes were closed as she seemed to be treasuring all of it, and Luke, seemed to be terribly…
shocked.Suddenly.
I just couldn’t breathe.
I couldn’t seem to feel any air around me.
Just an invisible chilly cold passing through my chest.
And... My heart was horrifyingly beating too fast.
On impulse, my hands went up to my face and that’s when I felt the sudden
hot tears that were swiftly streaming down my cheeks.
In the spur of the moment, I caught sight of Luke’s eyes looking towards my direction.
He looked far beyond distress and surprise. He pushed Lucy away and I heard him scream my name.
But it was an extremely faint sound to me, and in reply, my feet walked back, took a quick turn, and ran away... far away from this scene…
