Books and Their Film/Movie Adaptations
« on: January 30, 2008, 06:57:59 pm »
We usually say that the book version is better than its movie counterpart. But, are there any book into movie adaptations you enjoyed watching or thought it did justice to the book version? Which ones and why'd you like them? Spill! :)

I would say the book-to-movie adaptation of Les Miserables was rather good.

The Da Vinci movie was a bit cold.  They left out all the juicy parts.

For Harry Potter movies -- I can understand why they have to cut it.  There are so many things going on in the book and it's fairly difficult to make it happen on screen.  Although the mess called "HP: Azkaban" movie was inexcusable.  It was just.... BAD.

Half-and-half on Stephen King book-to-movies.  LOL, some of the movie adaptations were bad enough to label them B-movies.  Good ones are usually the mini-series:  "The Stand" was SUPERB, "Kingdom Hospital", "The Dead Zone"...

But books that Oprah makes into movies.... most likely gets in my nerves.

The movie adaptation of the novel To Kill a Mocking Bird made me mad. They took out some of my favorite scenes. Not only that but they also altered some of the major events in the novel.

The movie pretty much completely wrecked the whole book for me...maybe even the author himself because of all the media hype around him and the movie.

Same here.  I was so miffed when they decided to cut out all QUIDDITCH scenes.  Book3 was Oliver Wood's book!  And hey, a HP without Quidditch is like halo-halo without ice.

I expected a whole lot of faithfulness from the movie.  And I really believed that the WHOLE book can be translated on film with minimal -- if any -- editing.

I think tele-films are exceptions to the rule most of the time - they're usually good to watch, and hardly deviate from the story. Usually its the more biographical/memoir stories that can be transformed into movies without bastardizing the book, because they are about human beings and their lives, rather than fantasy or sci-fi, wherein the books are super thick, that's why they can't put each and every detail in the movie version.

haha. i hated the film adaptation of dream catcher. it was a total dud.

i don't think adaptations would ever really live up to the books because of a lot of factors: budget, time limit, etc.

Iyan ang "sakit" ng Stephen King adaptations.  By far, the worst is "Pet Sematary".
