Homework Problem/Question: How is Newton's 3rd Law of Motion Involved in Solar Sailing? (Help! I really Need help with this one, I can't search at the net.. I search thousand times na.. Kidding )

What your teacher probably wants is a practical answer, not a technical one by definitions, but rather an answer supported by facts and definitions. Anyway, my take on this is that since Newton's 3rd Law of Motion, which states that "for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction", solar sailing applies this 3rd law by reflecting the sun's light (or any other light source), collecting it, and that's where it gets its energy. Moreover, the sails need the solar energy to help the sails move spacecrafts in outerspace.

Therefore, this is how it's used: Solar sails collect solar energy from the sun (or from any other light source), and in return reciprocates the action, by providing the energy the sails need to move the spacecraft.

So anyway, that's how I perceived it to be. Did that answer your question? Hope I helped. Feel free to correct me.
