Chapter 40

Madilim na nang dumating ako sa bahay. I still can’t believe that I lied to Chris. I never thought na mapipilitan akong gawin yun. Hindi ko naman talaga gusto gawin yun, napilitan lang ako.

“Oh bakit ngayon ka lang?” Si Ate Natalie.

“Huh? Bakit?”

“Di ba may practice ka?” She sounds so bossy.

“Practice? Anong practice?” I tried to search in my head what she’s blabbering about.

“Oh God! Don’t tell me you forgot it?” I paused and stared at her like a freaking statue.

“For the family dinner.” She stared at me as if I knew what she’s talking about it.

“What about it?”

“Di ba mom asked you to sing?” Feeling ko hindi nagregister sa utak ko yung sinabi niya.

“Sing? What do you mean?”

“It’s a family dinner. You have to do something, and it’s your party for starters.” She said like it’s easy to sing in public.

“What?!” Nagpapanick ako. Sino ba naman ang hindi magpapanic kung pakakantahin ka sa harap ng madaming tao.

“Don’t what what me You have to do it.”

“Teka, ang alam ko family dinner lang. We eat and that’s it.” I’m trying to get out of this horrible situation. I’m not really good at delivering something in public. Nerbiyosa ako, sa totoo lang.

“No, it’s a social event.” She smirked at me.

“But I don’t want---” Tatapusin ko sana  kaya naputol dahil biglang nagring ang cellphone ni Ate Natalie.

“Hello?”

“I know, Mom. That’s what I told her nung dumating siya sa bahay.” She glared at me. Kulang na lang balatan niya ako ng buhay.

“Ok, sige, Mom. I’ll send her there.”

*Cellphone hang-up*

“That’s mom and she wants you to go to this address (inabot niya sa akin yung contact card) because your vocal coach is waiting there as in right now!” Parang tinamaan ako ng kidlat sa sobrang shock.

“I really really really really really don’t wanna sing.” I pout my lips.

“Oh really ” She said with a teasing tone and it made me so curious.

“Daniel will be there ” I froze. I literally froze.

Oh anong drama ng Nicole na ito? Narinig lang ang pangalan ni Daniel tapos ayun nagdadrama na naman.

“Ok ka lang ba?” I asked her.

She laughed out loud as if she’s hiding something. I wonder, may nangyari kaya sa kanila ni Daniel. Kahit na hindi pa kami masyadong magkakilala ni Nicole, obvious naman kapag tinatago siya.

“Sige alis na ako.”  I know na napilitan lang siya ngumiti. Ano kaya pinoproblema nun?


Tiu’s residence - 7:35 PM

Sobrang tahimik ng dinner ng Family Tiu.

“Oh bakit ang tahimik ninyo?” Si Mrs. Tiu.

Nagkatinginan ang magkapatid.

“Wala!!!”

Anong nangyari kaya kay Nicole? I should talk to her as soon as possible

Why did Nicole do that to me? Anong bang wala ako at si kuya ang gusto niya?

“What are you looking at?” Chris’ stare makes me uncomfortable.

“Nothing. Masama ba tumingin ” Medyo sarcastic yung tono ng boses ko. Nabubwisit ako sa taong ito. Bakit siya pa? He’s not good enough to make her happy. I am more suitable on the job description.

“Hindi. Parang may laman kasi yang tingin mo ”

“Gutom lang yan. Ikain mo yan ” I’m being sarcastic again.

Naoffend ako sa sinabi ni Chris. “What’s that supposed to mean? ”

“Uhm, well… ”

“Itigil ninyo na yan. Nasa harap kayo ng pagkain.” Our dad instructed.

Kanina pa yang Chris na yan? Ano ba problema nito at sa akin ibinubuhos ang galit sa mundo?

Sige kumain ka lang, Kuya Daniel. Nasa akin ang huling halakhak


Kyle’s room – 8:30 PM

Nagulat ako ng pagpasok ko sa kwarto ko. Ang daming nakadisplay na tux sa bed.

“Nagustuhan mo ba?” Si Dad.

“Huh? What are these?” Trying to grasp what’s going on. I feel like there are 50 tux.

“Isusuot mo sa Fitzgerald family dinner. Next week na yun.”  He looks so delighted which pisses me off.

“Dad, you don’t have to worry. I’ll be there. You don’t have to bring all these tux. Isa lang naman ang kailangan ko.”

“I’m just reassuring that you’ll make a good impression on the Fitzgerald’s.” Obvious na sobrang tuwang tuwa siya sa mga masamang plano niya. Hindi ko alam kung bakit ako pumapayag sa mga plano niya.

“Or maybe you should get engaged with the one they’re going to introduce to the elite society.” Kulang na lang pumalakpak ang tenga niya sa sobrang tuwa.

“Dad, that’s a little low, don’t you think ” Kung hindi ko ito ang tatay ko, baka nasuntok ko na ito kanina pa

“No, it’s not. Kung related siya sa Fitzgerald then we will be richer than ever before.”

“What?! No way!” Ok, I'll just pretend I didn't heard that comment

“What’s the matter?” Naging blank yung face expression niya.

“Why do I feel like you’re pimping out your own son ” This conversation is getting weirder by the minute.

He laughed as if there’s no tomorrow. “With good reason naman ”

Oh my God! I don’t believe this

Then I escorted my dad out of my room politely. I shut the door.

“I hate this! Do I really have to go to that party?” I’m having second thoughts on attending that party. Feeling ko, wala naman ako mapapala dun.
