Chapter 34

“Why don’t you take Chris instead?”

“What?! ”                                     

Siraulo ba itong si Kuya? Kung ano ano ang suggestion pero gusto ko din yung idea niya para malaman ko kung bakit ganito ang treatment sa akin ni Nicole. I want to know why.

Lumapit sa akin si Kuya at sabay bulong. “Don’t you dare do something stupid, Chris…”

“Huh? What do you mean?” Patay malisya na lang ako.

“Don’t play dumb with me. If ever na may ginawa ka na hindi ko nagustuhan, hindi mo rin magugustuhan ang gagawin ko sayo.” Napalunok na lang ako.

“Is that supposed to be a threat ” Nagtatapang-tapangan ako para tigilan ang pagsisindak sa akin ni kuya.

“You know that I don’t bluff, Chris.” Actually, that’s true. My brother never bluffs in his entire life.

“Daniel, I don’t think that’s a good idea… ” I’m trying to get out of this. Ayaw ko makausap si Chris, at least for now.

“Why not? You said you want to explore the city.”

“Yeah but---” Hindi ko na natapos yung sasabihin ko.

“Don’t worry, hindi ka naman iiwanan ni Chris. Lagot yan sa akin kapag ginawa niya yun.” He laughed sarcastically. I know it’s weird but I’m having this weird feeling that they know something that I don’t. Basta magulo.

“Actually, may gagawin pa ako kaya---” Hindi rin natapos ni Chris ang sasabihin niya kaya biglang sumingit ang kapatid niya.

“Ano ka ba, Chris? Be nice to my girlfriend ”

“But she’s not your---” Biglang tinakpan ni Daniel ang bibig ni Chris.

Ok that’s it, there is something but what is it?

Lumapit si kuya sa akin at may ibinulong ulit. “Tandaan mo yung pinag-usapan natin.”

“I’m not an idiot. I know what I’m capable of.”

Ano kaya pinag-uusapan nila? 

Hindi ako mapakali. Gusto ko talaga malaman kung ano yung tinatago ng magkapatid sa akin pero mali ang mag-eavesdrop.

Pagkatapos nila mag-usap, lumapit sa akin si Daniel. “Babawi ako sayo next time.” Then he hugged me.

“Wala yun.” I tried to smile.

Daniel left.

May awkward moment na naman kami ni Chris.

Shet! Should I talk first or do I have to wait for him?

This is horrible! I wanna talk to her but how?

“Nicole…”         “Chris…”

Nagkatitigan kami at sabay nagtawanan.

“Sorry, you were saying something?”

“Hindi, ikaw muna.”

“It would be so impolite of me if I do that.”

“So, where do you want to go?”

“Hindi ko alam. Kahit saan.”

Nagpunta kami sa mall. I had a really great time. Nalimutan ko na nga yung nangyari kanina na away.

Maybe I should forget that revenge thing Baka makarma pa ako. Ayaw ko na rin isipin kung anong binabalak ni Kristine.

I never thought I have so much fun like this. Parang nagdedate talaga kami. Actually we are. This time, I won’t let go, Nicole.

After a couple of hours roaming around in the mall, nakaramdam ako ng gutom.

This is so bad! Parang mali yata na mag-initiate ako na kumain. Parang hindi babae ang dating ko nito.

Napansin kong namumutla si Nicole. “Ok ka lang ba?”

She just smiled at me. “Oo naman---”

Biglang kumulo ang tiyan ko and I’m very sure narinig ito ni Chris.

Tumawa siya. Nakitawa na rin ako.

“Bakit hindi mo sinabi na nagugutom ka na pala ”

At that moment, umurong ang dila ko. “Ah… eh…”

“Ok lang sa akin. Ano ba gusto mo kainin?”

“Kahit ano pwede sa akin.” I smiled again. Actually gusto ko kumain ng kanin because I’m really starving right now. I could eat an elephant haha! Pero hindi ko yun pwedeng sabihin  baka isipin niya na taong bundok ako.

Dinala ako ni Chris sa isang first class restaurant.

“Anong ginagawa natin dito?”

“Akala ko ba nagugutom ka?” Feeling ko naconfused si Chris.

“Chris, this is a first class restaurant. Tingnan mo naman ang suot natin. Hindi tayo papapasukin diyan.”

“Akong bahala sayo.” He winked at me. Medyo kinilig ako kasi feeling ko hindi niya talaga ako papabayaan.

Hala! Erase that, Nicole. Masama yan.

Maya-maya may lumapit sa aming lalake.

“Good afternoon, Sir Chris.” The guy smiled at us.

Sir Chris? Magkakilala sila? I’m so confused.

“Good afternoon din.” He smiled back.

“Actually, hindi ako nakapagreserve ng table.”

“Don’t worry about it. Hindi ninyo naman kailangan magpareserve ng table para kumain…”

Isn’t that the policy for first class restaurant? Di ba dapat magpareserve muna? I think that’s what I thought---

“…since your father owns this place, anything you want is possible.”

I think I get it na.

Tumawa lang si Chris. “Please don’t give me any special treatment.”

Tumingin sa akin yung kausap ni Chris. “Is she your date?”

Tumawa ulit si Chris, this time sobrang lakas na para bang may hidden meaning yun. “Anyways, let’s go inside and this girl I’m with is starved to death.”

“Excuse me?” Pinagtaasan ko siya ng kilay.

Well, it’s true that I’m starved to death but you don’t have to broadcast it to the world. Hmmph!

Dinala kami sa isang isolated room. I just saw one table and two chairs. Nakaramdam ako ng kaba.

“Uhm, excuse me?” Tinanong ko sa kausap ni Chris.

“Ano yun?”

“We just want regular meals not special.” I put a lot of stress nung sinabi ko yung ‘special’ word.

Biglang sumingit si Chris. “Ok lang yan. This is a regular setting.”

“What?!” My jaw literally dropped. I don’t think this is a regular setting. Chris, don’t you see it?

“Sige na, umupo na tayo.” Binigay sa amin yung menu.

Somehow, nakakaramdam ako ng pagka-ilang. And so, I cover my face with the menu and I was shocked at what I saw.

“Oh my God! ” Napalakas ang boses ko.

“Bakit?! What happened?”

“Actually, busog pa pala ako. Let’s get out of here, Chris.” I smiled faintly at him.

“Huh? I thought nagugutom ka?”

“To tell you honestly, I’m not really hungry…” I just laugh faintly.

How can I eat something like this? A piece of steak costs Php800. What is this? The Golden Animals?

Nakakasigurado ako na wala akong ipangbabayad kung dito kami kakain ni Chris.

“But your stomach is growling…” He sound so concerned.

Tumingin muna ako sa waiter bago ko binulungan si Chris.

After a couple of seconds, tumawa ng sobrang lakas si Chris na para bang wala ng bukas.

“Ano ba?! ” Pinalo ko siya kasi naoffend ako sa tawa niya.

He’s still laughing nonstop.

Ay grabe ka, Chris! Hindi nakakatawa yung ibinulong ko sayo 

Then the waiter looked at us so weirdly.

Nang malipasan si Chris, natahimik siya.

“Oh ano, tapos ka na ”

“Nakakatawa naman talaga kasi yung sinabi mo.”

“Ano ba kasi ang nakakatawa dun?” Naiinis na ako sa lalakeng ito.

“Kung wala kang pambayad, wala naman problema yun.” Nanlaki ang mata ko nung sinabi yun ni Chris at sabay tingin ako sa waiter.

“Well excuse me hindi naman ako anak mayaman na spoiled brat ” I give a lot of stress when I said ‘spoiled brat’

“What’s that supposed to mean?”

“Then figure it out, Mr. Nice Guy ”

Ang cute talaga niya kapag nagagalit.

“Are you intimidated because I have more money? ”

Hah! I so hate this guy! He’s much worse than his brother, no doubt about it

Feeling ko sasabog ang ulo ko sa sobrang inis. I stood up and left the restaurant.

“Wait…”

Binilisan ko ang takbo hanggang sa naiwala ko siya pero napansin ko na pati ako nawawala na din.

“Oh no! What place is this?” I’m starting to panic.

I never thought na ganito pala kalaki ang mall na ito and now I’m officially lost. Thanks to that jerk Chris.

What should I do? Oh yeah, I should find a directory. Tama yan Nicole, gamitin mo ang utak mo.

But then, my stomach growls again.

“Maybe I should eat first.” Sabay tawa.


Sa di kalayuan…

“Ano ba, Kyle? Didn’t you tell me that you’ll join me on my shopping?” si Madison.

“I didn’t said that.”

“Yes you did.”

“When?”

“Last week. After ng practice ninyo sa soccer. Wala ka ng ginawa kundi laging soccer.”

“Siyempre, that's all I have ”

“Please, let’s go shopping.” Nagpuppy eyes si Madison.

“Ok fine. Sige mauna ka na, susunod na ako.”

“Promise?”

“Promise.” I smiled.

Madison left.

Hello everybody, my name is Kyle Andrew Lopez. I’m just new to this story, thanks to the author (LOL). I’m 18 years old, team captain of the soccer team. I’m an only child and my passion is playing soccer. Ever since I saw David Beckham play soccer I got hooked into it. I’m known for being campus playboy. I had lots of flings before but I never been in a real relationship. I wonder how it feels like to love someone and be loved in return.

And that’s Madison, a close friend of mine. She always thought of me as her boyfriend but I don’t feel anything for her except being a friend. She’s always been there for me every time I need her. But people in the school assumed that we’re a couple but we’re not. She just likes to hang out around with me.

“Nagugutom na ako. Makabili nga ng pwedeng kainin.”

And then nakakita ako ng popcorn store and I proceed sa starbucks to buy a frap. And after that, umupo ako sa bench sa may mall quadrangle.


“This sucks. I’m starving to death and I don’t have money. Bwisit naman kasi na pagshoshopping yan. I don’t even know how to get home. Basta, hindi ko na talaga kakausapin ang Chris na yan! Akala mo kung sino, at mayabang na siya ngayon. Hmpph! ”

Until I saw a guy who’s eating popcorn at lumapit ako sa kinauupuan nito.

“Is that what I think it is? ” Kulang na lang magdrool ako sa harap niya.

Suddenly, I noticed this girl who’s staring at me so weirdly. And she’s looking at my popcorn.

“Can I help you ” I asked her politely.

“Hindi ka ba mag-aalok?” Tinaasan ko ng kilay ang kausap ko.

“Excuse me ” Medyo naoffend ako sa sinabi niya. Kaya inabutan ko siya ng ilang pirasong popcorn.

“That’s it?” Tinaasan ko ulit siya ng kilay. “Dude, you’re so stingy! ”

“Huh? Beggars can’t be choosers!” I’m totally offended by this girl. “What do you want me to do?”

I grabbed his bucket of popcorn.

“What the heck?! Are you insane?! That’s my popcorn! ”

“Oh come on! Sharing is caring, don’t you know that? ” I tried to smile while I put a handful of popcorn in my mouth.

Nashocked ako sa nakita ko. I never thought there’s someone who can eat like this. Parang hindi siya kumain ng ilang araw.

“What are you staring at ”

“…nothing” It took me awhile before I could reply.

Somehow, she’s one of a kind. Someone who’s not afraid to show herself to the world. All of a sudden, I can feel my heart beat so fast.

What’s this?

Nakita ko yung beverage sa tabi niya. “Can I have that too ”

“Huh?” I’m still amazed on what I’m witnessing right now.

Wala na akong choice kaya inabot ko yung frap na binili ko.

Nung inabot niya yung beverage, ininom ko lahat ang laman sa isang inuman and I burp.

Oh God! Is this real?

Tumawa na lang ako para hindi mahalata ang sobrang kahihiyan na ginawa ko.

Humarap ako sa pinagkuhanan ko ng pagkain. “Thanks.”

Feeling ko, hindi siya makapagsalita. “Ok ka lang ba?”

“Huh? Ok lang naman ako.”

“Sorry hah, gutom talaga kasi ako.” Tumawa ulit ako.

“Ok lang.” I can’t stop looking at her.

“Anyways, I should go.”

All of a sudden, I feel like something struck my heart. “Why ”

“What do you mean, why? Pagod na ako, kanina pa akong naglalakad.”

“Eh di ihahatid kita sa inyo.” I never thought I would offer something like that. This is so not me.

“Naku, hindi na. my mother told me not to go with strangers.” I laughed sarcastically.

“I’m no stranger.”

“Yes, you are. I don’t even know you.”

“Oh sorry. I’m Kyle Andrew but people call me Kyle.” Nakipagkamay ako. Luckily she accepts it.

“Oh hello Kyle.” I smiled.

And now, my heart beats faster and faster and I don’t know why.

“And you are?”

“It’s not that important.”

“Huh? Of course it is. You devoured my snacks, at least you owe me that.”

“Ah ganun? Porque ba hinostage ko yung snacks mo eh ginaganyan mo ako.” Tinaasan ko siya ng kilay.

Nakaramdam ako ng kaba na hindi ko pa naexperience in 18 years of my life. And it scares the hell out of me.

“No, that’s not what I meant… ”

“Wala ng gentleman ngayon, I just realized that.”

“Hold on, I’m a gentleman. All I’m asking is your name ”

“You know what, Kyle?”

“What?”

“If we’re meant to meet again then we will. When that time comes, you’ll know my name.”

I was captivated on what she said. And she left.
