Chapter 28

Nagising ako and I found myself inside a bus.

Ay oo nga pala, babalik na kami ni Chris sa Manila. I just feel bad for Joshua, hindi man lang ako nakapagpaalam. I feel bad din kasi hindi ako naka-stay ng matagal sa cemetery. But oh well, this is my life now.

It still makes me blush when I remember what happened on that day. Dami nangyari sa amin ni Chris na hindi ko akalain na mangyayari. Ang problema ko na lang ay kung paano ito ipapaalam sa pamilya ko, most especially to my mom and Daniel. I could definitely imagine their surprised faces. Sana matanggap nila na hindi ko na kaya magpretend na girlfriend ako ni Daniel. I still like him though but not that much. Siguro na-turn off na ako sa ugali niya. I wish na maayos ang lagay ngayon ni mommy.

“Gising ka na pala.” He smiled.

“Nasaan na ba tayo?” Sabay kusot sa mata ko.

“Pauwi na.”

“Pwedeng punta tayo muna kay Mommy?”

“Sure. Nagtext na rin naman ako kay Natalie.”

“Anong sabi niya?” Somehow, I’m worried about what my sister is going to tell me once we meet again.

“Nasa Madison General Hospital sila.”

I noticed that Nicole is very worried. “What’s wrong?”

“Nothing. Kinakabahan lang ako.”

“Bakit naman? There’s nothing to worry about.” I winked at her.

Luckily, kasama ko si Chris. Kung ako lang mag-isa baka inatake na ako sa puso sa sobrang nerbiyos.


Madison General Hospital. 12:30 PM

Feeling ko sasabog ang puso ko sa sobrang bilis ng pagtibok.  What should I tell them?

Nung malapit na kami sa room ni Mommy, my feet suddenly stopped from walking.

“Nicole, what’s wrong?” Napalingon si Chris sa akin.

“I don’t think I can face them right now ” I turned away and walked away from them.

Pinigilan ako ni Chris. “Ano ka ba? I’m sure your family will understand you.” He held my hand.

Tumingin lang ako sa kanya. “Akong bahala sayo! Hindi naman kita papabayaan.” He winked at me again.

Now I feel safe. If it turns out bad, I’m sure Chris won’t let anything bad happened to me.

Nang pumasok kami sa room, isang malakas na sampal ang natanggap ko.

“Aba! Buti naman naisipan mo pang bumalik!” Sinigawan ako ni Ate Natalie.

I deserved this. I think kulang pa yun sa ginawa kong pag-alis ng hindi nagpapaalam ng maayos.

Chris hugged me then he faced Natalie. “What is wrong with you?! ”

“What is wrong with me? My mom had a heart attack because of that girl!!!” She’s really furious at me.

That’s right, it’s my fault. My mom is on bed rest because of my stupidity.

Pinipigilan ni Chris si Ate Natalie na makalapit sa akin. I had a feeling she’s going to beat me up.

“It’s not easy for her to gain her courage and come back here.” Pinapakalma ni Chris ang kapatid kong nagwawala.

“God, Nicole! Naturingan kang matalino tapos ayaw mong gamitin yang utak mo! Kung may problema ka, harapin mo, hindi yung tatakasan mo!!!” Her scream echoed through the whole room.

Because of that, nagising si mommy.

“Nicole, is that you?”

Lumapit ako. Tears starts to fell down from my eyes. “Sorry mom. I just had…”

“It’s ok, sweetie. Mommy is alright.” She hugged me.

For some reason, I feel safer.

Nagulat na lang ako ng may biglang yumakap sa likod ko. “I’m just worried, Nicole.” Si Ate Natalie.

I just stared at her. “We are a family now. You don’t have to struggle your problems alone.”

I smiled at them. “You’re right. Sorry for making you worry about me.”

Napalingon na lang kami ng biglang bumukas ang pinto. Si Tito Henry ang nakita naming.

He rushed and hugged us. “ Welcome back, Nicole.”

All of a sudden, tears are falling down again. “I’m so sorry for all the troubles I caused you.”

“You don’t have to worry about that. As long as kumpleto na ulit tayo, yun ang mahalaga.”

I’m so happy for you, Nicole. I’m glad I brought you back to your family. Like I told you, I will wait for the day until you love me and bring all the happiness you deserve.

Napansin ko lang na lumabas na si Chris kaya hinabol ko ito.

“Chris…” Napalingon ako.

“Thank you.” She smiled at me.

“It’s nothing. That’s the least I could do.”

“If there’s anything I could just tell me, I’ll do it.” I’m so determined to repay his kindness to me.

“Well, there’s something you can do….” He looked at me so seriously.

Why do I get the feeling that something bad is about to happen?

“You can kiss me ” He pointed his lips.

“Are you freaking crazy?! ”  I showed him my fist.

He smiled. “I’m just joking.”

“I know ”

Papasok na ako sa loob nang bigla niya akong niyakap.

“What are you doing?” Pinapalo ko siya.

“I love you, Nicole. Remember that.” Bumilis na naman heartbeat ko.

Kakakilig ka naman, Chris.

Humarap ako sa kanya. “Sige pasok ka na sa loob. Uwi na rin ako.”

“Sige, salamat ulit.”

Hinayaan ko muna pumasok si Nicole sa loob bago ako umalis.


Tiu’s residence. 3:30 PM

Pagdating ko, inulan ako ng mga tanong galing kay kuya at kay Mommy.

“Ano ba kayo? Kararating ko lang!” I’m so irritated. Gusto na nga sumarado ng tenga ko.

“Where did you go?”

“Bakit kasama mo si Nicole?”

And they keep going and going….

“You know what, I’m tired. I’ll get some rest.” Nilayasan ko sila.

Chris’ Room

My back hurts so much. Sobrang tigas kasi nung bed nila dun. I can’t live with that kind of lifestyle. Pero ok lang, nakasama ko naman si Nicole ng kami lang. Sana ganun na lang ang buhay ko.


Mrs. Fitzgerald Recovery Room

“We should prepare the party....” Napalingon ako sa sinabi ni mommy.

“Party? What party?” I’m so confused.

“Engagement party ninyo ni Daniel.” She’s looking at me.

“Huh ”

How is that possible? Hindi nga nagpopropose yung tao sa akin

Biglang sumingit si Ate Natalie. “Mom, let’s not talk about that. I think that’s the main reason why Nicole ran away.”

Napayuko na lang ako.

“Is that true, sweetie?”

Hindi ako makasagot.

Actually, that’s part of the reason why I left.

“Honey, let’s not force the children.”

“Don’t you like Daniel?”

Bago ako makasagot, hinila na ako palabas ni Ate Natalie.

Sa labas.

“What the hell was that?” I’m so surprised sa ginawa ni Ate Natalie.

“We’re going home.”

“Why?” I’m confused.

“Eh baka kasi kung ano na naman mangyayari.”

Tumahimik na lang ako. “I don’t think may feelings ka pa kay Daniel. I’m just doing this para maging kalmado si mommy. Masama sa kanya ang ma-stress.”

“Oh okay. At least you told me.”

Akala ko, ok na ang lahat. Hindi pa pala. I still have to pretend.

Pagdating namin sa bahay, nagpunta agad kami sa room niya.

“Anong ginagawa natin dito?”

She went straight to her closet. “I’m looking for a dress.”

I scanned the whole room until I spotted a picture. Lumapit ako.

Napansin kong may kasama si ate na babae na kamukha ko.

Who is this girl?

I picked up the picture.

“I didn’t know na hindi ko pa pala naitapon yan.” Biglang singit ni Ate Natalie.

“Sino siya?” Inabot ko sa kanya ang picture.

“That’s Kristine. She WAS my friend.” Parang sobra ang galit ni Ate sa babae na ito, based on her facial expression.

“Was?” I asked.

“After what she did to Chris, I just can’t forgive her…”

After what I heard, biglang bumilis ang heartbeat ko.

“Bakit? Ano ba ginawa niya?” Naging curious na tuloy ako.

Parang naghehesitate ako sa malalaman ko kasi I have the feeling na masasaktan ako sa isasagot ni Ate Natalie.

“She broke Chris’ heart and left just like that as if nothing happened…”

“And to think na magkamukha kayo…”











































































































































































































So that’s it. That's why he's attached to me dahil nakikita niya ex-girlfriend niya sa akin.
