Your window-licking-@-Powerbooks-days are over, because there's a bookstore at SM San Lazaro that sells
brand new books for dirt cheap prices. And they're not just any kind of book...they're the ones that you usually see at power books, fully booked, page one and those bourgeoisie book shops.
The prices are so bastos-cheap that it would make Booksale look like another elitist bookstore!
for example, i bought 4 books (title:
The Year 1000, The Last Knight, The Cathars, How to Read Hitler that would have cost 799 pesos, 569 pesos, 769 pesos and 599 pesos at powerbooks respectively.
i only paid 99 pesos for each of them for a total of 396 pesos. AND THEY'RE BRAND NEW!
but wait, there's more!
since i bought 4 books, the clerk told me, i am entitled to get another book (any price) for free!
i saw a Cambridge Illustrated History of The Roman World (again at Powerbooks).IN POWERBOOKS They sell it for 3,999 pesos, in Buy-The-Book, only for 399
but anyhow, i got a brand new copy from Buy-the-book
for free. the next day, i bought four books again so that i could get another free book.
in power books, i saw a book that costs 1,250 pesos titled
"1453: the Holy War for Constantinople and the Clash of Islam and the West" - hard bound, brand new. i got it only for 249 pesos.
another book that i found in powerbooks -
The Third Reich in Power price: 1,569. again, i got it for 249 pesos. months ago, i bought its prequel
THe Coming of the Third Reich by the same author. i spent 812 pesos (sa powerbooks ko kasi binili). pero this one, it's thicker, hard-bound pero i only got it for 250 sa
buy-the-book1939: The Last season and
What might have been cost 529 pesos both. i got them for 99 bucks.
(they get their books from powerbooks, by the way!)
and they dont just sell history books, they also sell hardbound chiclit fiction books, pop culture books, architecture books, uhm, automotive books (no not the manuals, they are the coffee table types), biographical books, brand new
CAMBRIDGE AND OXFORD reference and history books that never go beyond 500 bucks.
some of the books are 2nd hand, some are brand new.
so go there.

the name of the shops is Buy-The-Book, SM San Lazaro Ground Floor, in front of St. Pauls.
Tecee!
