ALERT: DIRT-CHEAP BRAND NEW BOOKS.
« on: December 08, 2007, 12:17:39 pm »
Your window-licking-@-Powerbooks-days are over, because there's a bookstore at SM San Lazaro that sells brand new books for dirt cheap prices. And they're not just any kind of book...they're the ones that you usually see at power books, fully booked, page one and those bourgeoisie book shops.

The prices are so bastos-cheap that it would make Booksale look like another elitist bookstore!

for example, i bought 4 books (title: The Year 1000, The Last Knight, The Cathars, How to Read Hitler that would have cost 799 pesos, 569 pesos, 769 pesos and 599 pesos at powerbooks respectively.

i only paid 99 pesos for each of them for a total of 396 pesos. AND THEY'RE BRAND NEW!

but wait, there's more!

since i bought 4 books, the clerk told me, i am entitled to get another book (any price) for free!

i saw a Cambridge Illustrated History of The Roman World (again at Powerbooks).IN POWERBOOKS They sell it for 3,999 pesos, in Buy-The-Book, only for 399

but anyhow, i got a brand new copy from Buy-the-book for free.

the next day, i bought four books again so that i could get another free book.

in power books, i saw a book that costs 1,250 pesos titled "1453: the Holy War for Constantinople and the Clash of Islam and the West" - hard bound, brand new. i got it only for 249 pesos.

another book that i found in powerbooks - The Third Reich in Power price: 1,569. again, i got it for 249 pesos. months ago, i bought its prequel THe Coming of the Third Reich by the same author. i spent 812 pesos (sa powerbooks ko kasi binili). pero this one, it's thicker, hard-bound pero i only got it for 250 sa buy-the-book

1939: The Last season and What might have been cost 529 pesos both. i got them for 99 bucks.

(they get their books from powerbooks, by the way!)

and they dont just sell history books, they also sell hardbound chiclit fiction books, pop culture books, architecture books, uhm, automotive books (no not the manuals, they are the coffee table types), biographical books, brand new CAMBRIDGE AND OXFORD reference and history books that never go beyond 500 bucks.

some of the books are 2nd hand, some are brand new.

so go there.  :)

the name of the shops is Buy-The-Book, SM San Lazaro Ground Floor, in front of St. Pauls.

Tecee!

I went there last Friday. Haven't bought any though. Although I saw "holidays on ice" which I bought at Powerbooks around 400 tapos 99 lang dun. Hmm. Balak ko nga bumili dun. Tapos benta ko na lang yung isa. Haha. Nakakapanghinayang. Sayang. Have to go back there sometime.  ;D

u should be.

I have to go there. Are they selling young adult books?

young books, adult books and anything in between, yes :)

Sayang. Have to go back there sometime.  ;D

You really have to go back there sometime, i agree

ooh! I might go there next week! with those prices, I can really save a lot..

u can really save a lot.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

yung mga fiction books nila, hindi tataas sa 99 pesos.

yung mga global affairs/ world politics/ biography books nila, hindi tataas sa 499

yung mga DC hardbound comics nila and mga comics compendium nila (the DC classics), they sell it for 500-600 pesos. they're brand new and they're a far cry from powerbooks' prices that go beyond 2000 pesos.

they also have philosophical books.

they have the "How to read" series like "How to read Hitler", "How to read Wittgenstein", "How to read Darwin", "How to read Marx"

they have Cambridge History of Germany, Greece, Poland, France, Italy, Hungary, Bolivia, Brazil etc..

and Cambridge Companion to the varios philosophers.. Plato, Immanuel Kant, etc...

thy also have language audio books, language books how to learn russian, french, italian, german, spanish, polish, greek etc.

, complete idiot's guide to..., For Dummies books, Penguin Classics (publisher)

basta alot... literally lahat ng mga libro sa powerbooks and fully booked, nandun. (in fact, dun talaga nila kinukuha sa mga supplier ata, so if u cremove the 99 peso tag u will see the books' original prices that never go below 500.

as a matter of fact, ung mga store clerks pa nga ang nag bibigay ng price. once i asked for the price of the book eh nakalimutan nilang lagyan ng tag.

the title of the book is "Omar's Dream: The History of the Ottoman Empire" power books cost: 1,200

so what the store guy did was to get a sticker, write the price 249 and then that's it. (but i didnt buy it)

Naku, really have to. Just have to find time. And I can't wait!  ;D

haha chempuhan mo. haha

basta promise, sobrang bastos-cheap ng price nila vis-a-vis the intellectual value of the book. you wouldnt even mind paying extra. lol

minsan nga parang na gui-guilty ako coz IMHO, these books do not deserve to be bought at so low a price!  ;D

for bibliophiles like me, we really give value to a book...for us books are not just a piece of paper, they're friends.

As Mark Twain said Those who do not value a book are the people who put a price on it

or, better said: Those who put a price on books are those who do not know how to value them

... meron din po bang sidney sheldon dito? hehe

uhm, you could check out the novel section on that one, pero i think they have naman coz the last time i went there i saw a couple of Danielle Steeles, Agatha Christies and the like. :)
uhm btw, DS is a romance novelist right?
