CHAPTER ONEJennifer
Dad parked the car in front of the big gate. Look at us, a few hours ago, we just arrived here in this small town, now, we’re attending the mayor’s great big social gathering. Dad was a good old friend of the mayor’s. In fact, Dad used to live in this small town here but he transferred to the city to build up his business and then he met Mom and they had me.
My parents walked ahead, hand in hand. Dad wore his suit and Mom wore the black dress Dad gave her on their anniversary. They both wore black but I wore white. I adore the color. I know it’s not even considered a color but still I love it. It gives a sense of calmness, peace and purity. It gives a bright and happy feeling. Unlike my mom who was wearing a long sleeveless dress, I wore a cocktail dress.
I don’t know how it happened but suddenly my parents were out of my sight. Great. I’m alone…again. Back in the city, my classmates always attended parties. But not parties like this. They attended parties at each other’s house were there’s always a DJ and loud booming music from the speakers, were there was a pool and drinks and were all the popular kids were always present. I wasn’t always present….Alright, I was never invited to one. I’m an outcast there. I don’t party, I don’t get drunk and I don’t make friend with people who just pretends to be your friends.
Okay, so since I can’t seem to find my parents anywhere I sat on a seat in an empty table. Luckily, it was near the dessert table. I grabbed a Chocolate cupcake and found myself devouring it. And then it was just like I had lost all my will power, because I started to get more and more and munch and munch each cupcake. Damn, curse Chocolates!
“Most girls would be controlling their diet so that they could be skinny like models or some would be too concerned on getting dirt on their dresses, especially if they’re wearing white. But you chose to be a pig and eat as much of those as you want.”
I looked up at my insulter. He was guy. A guy with eyes as dark as his hair and fair skin. He was wearing his black tux which I have to admit, suited his well-built body. If he wasn’t being a jerk, I would have maybe liked him. But he was and I really hated it that he was smiling at me teasingly.
“Well, I am not like other girls. I am unique.” I said, wiping off the trails of chocolate from my lips.
“Yes, you are unique. Just like everyone else in the world.” He was smiling, probably taking in his victory in this little fight.
“Well…whatever.” I turned away from him.
“You are new, aren’t you?” he asked.
I looked at him again, “How would you know that?”
“This is a small town. Everyone knows everyone. And you’re a new face.” He said, taking the seat beside me.
“Well, do they know you?” I asked.
“Yes, especially the ladies.”
Oh, so he’s that kind of person. He’s probably so full of himself.
“I bet they all know you for being such a jerk.”
“Well, you can ask them as to why they all know me.”
I was about to say something when my phone beeped. My parents were looking for me, telling me to meet them at the fountain.
“I have to go.” I said to the guy before leaving him behind.
As I was heading to my parents, I realized that I don’t even know what that guy’s name was. But then again, why should I care, it’s not like I was going to see him ever again.
Boy, was I soo wrong.
