hey thanks for the info! i'm now interested in MASSCOM...since i love the media, i mean, i read the Inquirer every single day, read tons of magazines, i love to write, and soo love English, hmmm is this the course for me?

I think about what course i will take up every day and the DAY is almost near....i'm an incoming senior, haha.....but i still have no concrete idea on what course i'm interested in..

does DLSU have MASSCOM courses?

is mass com a good, sensible, smart choice nowadays?

Well, that's good for you.

Uhm... no one can really tell you or gauge if a college course is good for you or not.  If you feel that it's right, then siguro, para sa iyo nga.  I was a MassCom student, but I didn't like it much eh.  I didn't find it fulfilling.  Although, I'm not discouraging you ha.   :D

MassCom is always a nice choice.  Don't listen to those people saying, "Wala ka namang trabaho pagkatapos."  Hindi lang naman mere newscaster ang kababagsakan mo after you graduate from MassCom.  You can do anything as long as you set your mind on it.

tina_itsme can answer this one.

Marami namang resto at hotel ditong papasukan.  It's just the matter of getting the right breaks and opportunities.

DLSU has CommArts.

But I changed my mind because, for me lang ha, love for writing is not a very reliable nor a valid reason to pursue a course in the media. MassCom, CommArts, or any other media-related course involves so much more than writing. Pano ba naman, may mga production stuff pang pinag-aaralan, as well as other technicalities. Nooo!

I should've prioritized Creative Writing first sa applications ko nun.

The bottom line is, you should have various reasons for taking up a media-related course aside from love of writing. Kung baga, try convincing yourself that the media is really for you.

I guess a career in the media won't be so bad, marami namang bigtime broadcasting and publishing companies dyan na constantly looking for "fresh talents". Hindi ko lang alam kung magkano sweldo, but I think they make a little more than what they really need. :)

Communication Arts, isn't what it used to be. It is far from being centered only on Broadcast and Print Media (The usual tri-media: TV, Radio, Newspapers) - it is almost bordering on -
IT+Graphic Design+Advertising+Marketing+Film+Photography+Theater Arts+ A little bit of journalism and creative writing. The focus now is on technology and the use of digital media to create innovative, engaging and creative ways to put messages across, It is not easy mind you. You have to learn a lot of technical things like video editing, extensive use of photoshop and other video and graphic suites, plus learning to man the radio stations and so many other things, if you do not have the money or the resources to provide for gadgets, latest software, hardware, money for trips/facilities/ or contacts (real people working in various media outfits) - then don't go into Commarts/Masscom it is quite hard to survive without the said 'advantages' or 'pre-requisites'.

Lots of Math and Chem series (syempre :P). Expect lots of lab works, too.

Yup, yup. Those are the perks of being a Masscom/Commarts major, the gadgets and photoshop and editing prowess. Add ko lang na usually almost everything is done by groups.

Well, sometimes it isn't a perk :P Hassle, Masscom is such an expensive course. And yes, a lot of group work, which isn't a good thing because it is usually so hard to work with other people, and to rely on people to do a good job.

Another reason kung bakit ayoko ng CommArts - I HATE groupworks. :) Seems like you have to do almost everything yourself if you want things done right.

So yun, by taking these things into consideration and asking yourself if you can put up with these, then maybe you could actually decide if the media is really for you. :)

Maraming klase ng research sa Psych, whether it be AB or BS, so be ready for that. The subjects depend on whether you'll take up BS or AB Psych.

Psychology is a very interesting field of knowledge be it under BS or AB. It all actually deals with the same things - the complexity of the human mind, behavior, and emotions, what makes people tick etc. BS, deals with more statistics and clinical psychology (testing etc.) and AB, usually centers on Humanities and dealing with people (guidance counseling, HR etc.), either way, you'll have fun, but if you can't handle alot of math and stats, then don't go into BS.
