Aww Meron pa yan dear If you're going to take ulit this December, try answering yung practice set na binibigay nila once you register. It could help you a lot since karamihan ng mga concepts dun ay nasa exams rin. Kaya yan!

Hi everyone,
I graduated from DLSU-M with a degree in AB Behavioral Sciences, it's somewhat similar to AB Psych. However, it's not a pre-med course. Though, I can say that I pretty much had good marks way back  in college.  Do I have to take additional pre-med courses to be eligible to enter Med school? If so, how long would it take me to study the needed med subjects? Or is it really required to take a few med units to begin with? thanks a lot

Hello! It depends on the med school you're applying for. UP doesn't require any particular number of units for Chem, Bio and Physics (but you need to have a 95% NMAT score and an impressive transcript) but all the other schools do. Just check the requirements needed by the med school you want to enter. I'm a BS Psych graduate and applying for med school and my biggest regret is that I didn't take enough bio, physics and chem electives to apply for UST, my target school. And even if the school you want to be in isn't particular with subjects, it's still advisable to enroll yourself in supplemental subjects para it won't be hard for you to adjust sa med proper.

I agree with the previous poster. In terms of job opportunities, I think mas may demand sa medical technicians. But all I can say is, sometimes it's not about the course. Minsan pag magaling ka talaga or pag mas mataas ang rank mo sa board or whatever, mas in demand ka. I'm a Health Sciences major sa ADMU and taking the NMAT na (shucks) and apparently lahat na ngayon ay pwede maging pre-med. As long as marunong ka mag-aral at maghanap ng information, hindi ka naman siguro mahuhuli ng sobra sa med school. The advantage you gain kung natural sciences ang pre-med can only go so far eh. While I admire most pre-med courses (I am part of the Executive board of the Pre-Med organization in my school), I believe it's important din to learn about other things aside from medicine during pre-med. As we have learned so far, health is not just about the medicine. May iba pa siyang angles, at maganda tignan yun, so that we can be better doctors in the future. An understanding of public health, Philippine society in general, management, atbp., can really help us become more than just the average doctor. And looking at the health situation in the country, maganda talaga kung magkakaroon ng bagong breed ng doctor na socially sensitive and ready to make changes to a failing health system.

@secret01: may option naman for shortest time possible, which is INTARMED, pero seeing as nakapagcollege ka na, probably hindi ka na candidate for that program, so regular na ang path mo, and tama ang previous posters. No short way. Hope you enjoy the ride, though. And do keep your options open! Malay mo maging magaling ka pa la, nanakawan pa ang mundo ng magaling na doktor! Good luck! haha.

Yes, you still need to take up pre-med.
Yes, you can take up nutrition as a pre-med.
4 OR 5 years pre-med, 5 years med + internship+residency+specialization(ex:pedia). expect it to be more or less 15 years.

If you want pedia talaga, you might want to take up Nursing. In nursing kasi,they have a pedia course. So you will know if you really want to be a pediatrician or have another specialization like being a surgeon, ob,etc.

I'll bring back the question to you. Should you pursue it or not? Do you really want to be a doctor or not? Only you, yourself can answer that question. Things worth having doesn't come easy. Are you prepared and do you really want to study for 15 years?  And the most important factor of all, can your parents send you to Med school? Med school is very expensive. You know what, finish your nutrition course first. and after graduating, think if you really want to take-up medicine. A lot of your decisions will change while you are taking up your pre-med/nutrition course.

For first year med students, any tips regarding Biochem? Sobrang hirap ng Biochemistry in our school, ang taas din ng mortality rate when it comes to that subject.  I don't have any background about it back in my undergrad, which is Nursing, that's why I'm really struggling.

It helps to read Biochem at least thrice. Download Step 1 USMLE Biochem Reviewer/Biochemistry notes. The mnemonics help!
