oh... somewhere... hehe... i study at AUF in pampanga. i decided not to study in manila because i think at this age, i would like to be with my family. like i said in an earlier post, i have the rest of my life to be away from them once i start my own etc. but now im starting to worry about getting into UST or UP. coz my doctor said they have a strong bias for their own students and graduates from metro manila.

i'm in 2nd year med and here are what me and my classmates have discussed about,
from which course we've graduated:

Bio Grads: great in the theoreticals and anatomy
memorizing skills have been refined already
              observation skills are good
has background in microbio, physiology, genetics, chemistry

Med Techs:  lab skills are excellent
                 has clinical experience already
                 diagnostics and physical examination background
background in pathology, serology, parasitology, pharmacology

Psychs : interpersonal relationships master
            has intrapersonal knowledge too
            refined abstract thinking
background in psychoanalysis, psychobio, clinical psychology, psychopathology

Biochems: concrete thinking style
              visualization skills
              systems formulation skills
              background in biochemistry, pharmacology

hope our opinions helped.  :) the 4th category on each course choice are the med subjects you'll already have some background knowledge on when you take up that course. which means you'll have a slightly easier time studying it when you reach medicine.

~candyGUY soon to be candyDOC~  ;D
P.S. i study in FEU-NRMF Fairview.

i'm in england right now, i think the reason why medicine is straight away here in Uni is because in college you have to take A level bio and chem(compulsory na tlga) so parang may background ka na rin sa mga sciences subjects, tsaka you have to take some test before you pass for the course i think.. i want to do medicine as well and what my parents kept telling me was to do nursing first since its only 3 years in uni and i'm gonna be in college soon this coming school year and im planing to take A levels and the subjects are bio, chem, physics and maths? do you thinks its too hard, cuz i think it is but if it benefits me afterwards in UNI with a medicine course though if it batters my mind too much that may cause me a lower grades on bio and chem which im going to try to get A* or an A since most uni here wants AAA or AAB for medicine courses...ayoko naman kasing gawin ung four na subjects na yun tas mahihirapan akong mag concentrate diba, im really confuse right now....

i'll be taking up BS PSYCH in DLSU-M this coming school year, and i'll also be taking it as a pre-med course. :)

what do you guys think? will it prepare me enough for med proper (in UST or UP) or will i inevitably have a harder time than those who took up BS Bio or Med Tech as their pre-med?? :)

i really really want to be a doctor and i'm gonna go through med proper no matter what. :) and, my interest also lies in BS Psych that's why i chose to take it up. :)

so, what do you think? :)

go for it!  ;) though the subject backgrounds you'll take up in pre-med won't really come out til late 1st year or 2nd-3rd year pa of medicine.

i dont think its an unprofessional question at all. its a practical question. why do most people even think about getting in the health professions? you are almost guaranteed financial stability. why are most people taking nursing? ask the 1,500 freshman at our school, you will get a handful or less who say they actually want to care for people. and a lot of those taking that kind of course as a pre med use it as a fall back, just in case they decide not to follow through with medicine, they have at least secured a paying job. its practical, sure, wheres the harm in playing it safe? but i guess for me i just really wanna become a doctor, no side tracking or fall backs. but thats just me.

so anyway, get back to the point. anyone here also taking up pre med or in med school who can share their experience?

wow... hanga ako sa determination...
just a doctor, no fall backs!.. :)
gudluck!!!

med school is hard, there's no denying that. but not all of it is hard, there are times when it gets easy during certain parts of the lecture and it even becomes fun. the point i'm trying to make is, its just like any other part in life, up times and down times. if you can get thru it and be stronger, then all is good. there's a lot of rewards at the end of it all and they're not all financial. i guess you just gotta get used to it na lang, coz you'll be doing it for most of your life and its up to you how fun you'll make it. I made it really fun so i can actually laugh about what shi*t i've been thru when its already over.  ;) i still have some years more to go, so i hope i can keep it fun. hehehe!  ;D

^^ you hear so many stories of med students whose days and nights are spent in books, have no social lives and hanging out with friends means study sessions in the library... so its cool to hear someone who is having a good time haha! it all depends on the person really, so if all that serious studying doesnt get you down, hell if im gonna let it get me!  ;D

yah, its only up to you... i had those "social study group nights" too. but every after exam, be it major or just the shiftings, we go all out and party in libis or malate. its coz all the work is done and it feels good to let go! yeah!  :D

so, i guess ok naman ang nursing as pre-med, marami ka pang experience sa hospital and community.
