Well in the United States though, you have to go to a flying school, with the pilots (ahem!), then they provide you training for I dunno, maybe a year or so then you could get hired from the big airlines from there.  :)
Sadness is easier because its surrender. I say make time to dance alone with one hand waving free.

im a tourism student! :) here's some stuff that i know ... well, for FA (flight attendants - that's the proper way .. as they say) in local flight should be at least 5'3" in height ... and for international it's 5'5" w/o the heels of course ... limit for heels is up to 1 1/2 - 2 inches only ... well different airlines have different way of screening ...in cathay pacific i think you have to be really maputi ... and part of the screening is you have to wear their uniform .. if it fits you and looks good on you, you pass that part. :) there's this part that you will be ask to reach the compartment or put a baggage in it ... it you're able to reach it w/o having a hard time ... you pass .. my friend told me that her cousin failed this part kasi tumingkayad lang siya konti ... this is weird and i don't see the essence of this but some airlines would ask you to show them your legs ... even your whole body w/ only undies and bra on ... but all are girls naman ... and by the way ... i think this is an sop to all ... that you must be 10% lighter than the average weight for your height and age ... so that means if the ave weight is 50l .. you have to be 45. some airline would also require that you are fluent in a least one foreign language esp french ... ano pa ba ... ayan lang naman ... sa ipin pala bawal yellowish and may sira or misalignments ... you also have to be good in communicating esp in english .... and of course patient .... well, as i said b4 .. different airlines have different standards ... working as an FA is great ... and you earn a lot (mostly int'l flights) ... and get a lot of benefits ... but then you retire at an early age ... 35 i think. but they can also put you on a position like in their office ...

well ... masaya ang maging FA .. kita naman ... yung mga higher batch sa akin na FA na ... sosyal na .. heheh! but i suggest that if you are taking up tourism ... there's more to it than being an FA ... tourism is a very broad industry ... though some may not see it and think that if you take tourism ... you'll just be a flight attendant :P

you should greet the passengers .. and say the name of the airline company ... you also have to say the destination and the travel time plus the expected time of arrival ... and orient them with the first aid ... you also have to say how high are you flying above see levels. ex:

"Good afternoon ... welcome to cathay pacific. i am your flight attendant ana cruz. we are now heading to honkong ... it will take 2 hours from NAIA to HK airport ... we will arrive there by 3PM Hk time ... thank you"

kaso sayang .. hahah .. tapos na yung play niyo :P

yes, I know that pero syempre you have to know such things kahit papano kasi kung wla, kawawa naman ung gustong magFA.. I really think na kailangan nya munang matutunan ung mga bagay2 na importante before applying for this kind of job sis...
kasi super mangungulelat sya.. kasi dapat may background sya about the industry na pinapasukan nya, andami mo munang kailangan matutunan before ka maging professional na FA..
I know sineserve mo lng ung mga passengers like being a glamorous yaya and para ka ring security guard...pero like for example dapat mo ring malaman ung different languages, types of tourist, basta madami pang terms kasi kung hindi mahihirapan ka tlga..

i agree w/ you chocoria ... applying for FA does not require a college degree of a specific field ... BUT it would be really helpful if you have taken tourism or any hospitality related courses ... kasi some qualifications are given in the course curriculum ... such as foreign languages ... some may not require this ... but majority prefers multilingual FA's ... PAL does not really focus on this BUT in some area or flights this is a plus ... kasi how would you talk  to a french passenger for example if you don't speak or understand french ... you cannot choose your passengers di ba .. heheh. yes you will learn in the training but if you are a tourism grad ... you learn this things ahead and this is a plus ... the cocktail mixing ... walking / balancing is also somewhat taught by, sa amin, we are required to wear at least 2" heels ... even in tours where we are trained to walk/stand/tour guide while the bus is moving ... we do that every sem .. finals yun ... kaya if you master walking sa bus ... you can make it sa plane ... also you are given ideas of what to expect or prepare pag gusto mo mag-FA ... but of course most important factor or the first factor na kelangan is PHYSICAL APPEARANCE (posture .. good grooming ... good skin ... height)... every knowledge will be useless kung di ka papasa sa first screening palang .. :) ayun lang ... hahaha :) basta masaya yan kaso mahirap ... well, lahat naman ng masaya mahirap muna eh

i dont get the strictness of PAL. why dont they allow they're FA trainees to have braces? my brother is a flight steward in that airline and he has braces(ceramics) but nothing seemed to have happened. i mean hindi sya pinagalitan or anything :o

I bleed for this job. But well, my parents won't allow me to be an FA.

FAs are not like maids though they serve food, wine, etc. FAs are in charge of in-flight safety of the passengers and that is not easy. Imagine taking care of 450 passengers in one flight. And imagine that if your flight is just for one hour. (E.g. MLA-HKG) FAs need intellect because they also study. Just like students in a school, they need to pass their 'core subjects' of cocktail mixing, pouring wine at over 30,000 ft. They need to memorize in-flight protocols.

They are trained to learn these:
    * Lifting a 28kg aircraft window exit
    * Dealing with emergencies in a smoke-filled simulator
    * Swimming and assisting people in the water
    * Descending an escape slide, 9 metres above the ground
    * Fighting fires while wearing a full face mask
    * Controlling people in panic situations
    * Moving disabled people in evacuations

Much more of a life-saver huh? :D

I look up to them. It is a DIGNIFIED job. I know the meaning of DIGNIFIED since I come from a school having the 'DIGNITY OF HUMAN LABOR' as one of its core values. A dignified work is something that you work hard for and when your job is a CLEAN job. Do you get what I mean? A job where you don't need to kill, bend laws, etc.

And when applying for jobs like this, please don't apply in local airlines. I'm not discriminating them but I personally recommend airlines that are based outside the country. (E.g. one based in Hong Kong, since it's not far away from home)

If you'd like to see some of the FAs pictures inside the airplane, just PM me. :)
