Asking the Big Question
There isn't one surefire way to ask your date out. It all depends on who the guy is. If he's your cousin's kabarkada, you could get a set-up going. If he's the boy next door, maybe all you have to do is ring the doorbell. If he's the crush you've never met, asking him to be your prom date might take a little more effort.
Right off the bat, no matter who it is you're going to ask, you have several options: a phone call, a letter, a go-between, or face-to-face.
Whichever way you decide to ask your prom date out, the important thing to remember is to take a deep breath and to relax. Asking someone can be unnerving, so if this makes you iffy, you'll want to find time to prepare. Practice in front of a mirror, or run a practice dialogue with your best friend. Be prepared, but don't let go of spontaneity. Don't memorize what you're going to say, but know what you will say before you say it. That way, you don't end up stuttering or embarrassing yourself unnecessarily. Remember to say the essentials—the when, where, and how. Be direct, and don't run around in circles!
If you're worried your prom date will think you've developed a crush on him because you're asking him out, relax and try to rid yourself of those worries. Guys don't overanalyze these things the way girls do. At best, he'll be extremely flattered! (And hey, if the guy is cocky enough to think you're drooling over him just because you asked him to the prom, then maybe you ought to consider asking someone who's less full of himself).
