Masungi Georeserve in Rizal Province has become a favorite among weekend travelers because of its exciting four-hour trail of rocks, nets, rope courses, and hanging bridges. Once you get through the Discovery Trail, you're rewarded with a spectacular view of Laguna de Bay from the web-style viewing platform called Sapot. The hike may be ideal for kids even as young as 13 years of age but, let's face it, not all of us can easily survive long walks and challenging climbs.

Thank God for Masungi's newest path: Sawa, which is first and foremost a rapid exit for handicapped and elderly visitors. It could also be your much-needed tap out route when you just can't go on anymore. You can stroll through the "belly of a giant python," a long hanging bridge safely enclosed in nets and ropes, and eventually end up back atthe entrance.

There's also Barangay Dahon for when you just need a few minutes of rest before going through the Discovery Trail once again. It has hammocks and swings shaped like the leaves and fruits inside the georeserve, thus the name.

The more physically fit can try out the Bayawak, a steep rope course shaped like the local monitor lizard. The trail may be difficult but it's worth it when you get to the top of the karst terrain of limestone rocks.

Masungi Georeserve is at Garden Cottages, Kilometer 45 Marcos Highway, Baras, Rizal. Rates start at P1,400++. For more information, visit Masungi Georeserve's website.
