Money challenges are usually aplenty during the first few weeks of January when most people resolve to start anew and save money. So when we saw the 50-Peso Money Challenge on Facebook posted by Yona Abella, we couldn't help but pay attention to it. With a picture that has a ridiculous number of P50 bills on it, who wouldn't?
Yona started her post with a PSA of sorts, in which she discussed the importance of saving money. "Need natin mag-save habang bata pa tayo para in the near future hindi tayo sobrang ma-mo-moblema when it comes sa money kasi alam mong nakapag-save ka." She went on to add that it took her five months to save the 846 pieces of 50 peso bills in the picture. If our Math serves us right, it's a total of P42,300!
Yona's rule for the challenge is pretty simple: treat every P50 bill as invisible!
"Lahat ng 50 pesos na mahahawakan ko ay invisible muna sa akin. It means di ko siya gagastusin."
So if she pays in P500 and gets a change with some P50 bills in it, she will spare all the 50s and make sure she only spends whatever's left of her money.
It's no easy feat—even Yona admits that she had to discipline herself to achieve her goals. "Naniniwala ako na kapag gusto, madaming paraan. Kapag ayaw, madaming dahilan."

Think P50 is a little too big to be "invisible?" Here are other ways you can tweak the P50 Money Challenge and save money from your allowance.
- Spare P10 for every amount you spend.
You can save a total of P50 if you eat five times a day—and that's just on food!
- Make P20 your "invisible" amount.
It's up to you to decide if it's strictly bills or if coins are included.
