A guide for incoming college freshies to avoid the confusion!

College is just right around the corner with the submission of forms and college entrance exams happening right now. Sooner or later, you'll be a university student already. So here are a few things to note before you step out of high school and into college.

  1. TBA – To be announced. Mostly used for class schedules (whether it be the professor, the time, or even the venue) that haven't been announced.
  2. NSTP - National Service Training Program. It's required community service (cleaning, teaching, etc.),  which you go through at least a year or so.
  3. ROTC - Reserve Officers Training Corps. It could be a substitute for your NSTP. Basically, it's military training and it's similar to our high school's CAT. An opportunity to sport combat boots, which you can totally rock with your student outfits!
  4. Org – A shortcut for organization. It's like your school clubs except it isn't run by teachers but by students! Not to mention, there are more options and it's 10 times more fun!

  5. Frosh – Another creative word that means freshman, or a first year level student!
  6. Uno – A grade always aimed for by students. It's the highest mark in the grading system. Give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back!
  7. Singko – A number you should be avoiding! It means failure in the grading system! Uh-oh.
  8. F.A. – Failure due to Absences. Another thing to avoid especially since you only have a limited number of absences per class. Yes, that means you got to shake off that laziness!
  9. Free cut – Last but not the least, this is usually much-awaited and hoped for (especially if you didn't do your homework!). It's when a professor is MIA for your class for at least 15-30 minutes and you're allowed to skip the class already.

Note: All terms above may not be used depending on the university. It's always best to learn more about the colleges you'll be entering. Good luck, future freshmen!
