At a young age, we were taught to jump as high as we can as the clock strikes twelve every New Year's Eve to score that extra inch to give our heights a major boost. While it may have taken us a long time to figure out that our New Year's Eve tradition to nab that extra height doesn't really work, that doesn't mean that you can't give your petite height much love anymore! Below, we've listed down the basic dos and don'ts for the petite girl. With these styling tips and tricks in your arsenal, you can well be on your way to a fashionable year without breaking a sweat, Candy Girls.

Do! Explore and discover brands with petite sections.

You may already have a go-to brand for your fashion finds, but don't stop exploring other brands that have specialty sections for petite girls. That way, you can be sure that the pieces will flatter and accentuate your best features effortlessly.

Don't! Be afraid to have your clothes altered.

Yes, having your clothes altered may be a hassle—especially for busy college girls—but this is a necessary step to make sure that the pieces you splurge on will fit your tiny frame perfectly. Plus, it's an easy way to make a clothing item truly your own, too.

Do! Play with asymmetric pieces!

Clothes with an asymmetric cut can create the illusion of a taller height in a snap. Choose pieces that have a longer hem at the back or dresses with diagonal hems for a flattering look for the day without sacrificing fashion.

Don't! Go for long and low silhouettes.

While a pair of hip flared jeans and long coats with matching long-sleeves may look amazing on your favorite style star, these long and low silhouettes are not the best choices for girls with a tinier frame. Avoid pieces that will make you look bulky and when you're putting together an OOTD, make sure that you are wearing the clothes and not the other way around.

Do! Opt for high-waist anything!

Think '70s and '80s fashion, Candy Girls! With your petite frame, a high-waist cut will always always work well for your body. Cropped and tapered pants can also create the illusion of a taller height.

Do! Stock up on A-Line skirts.

When in doubt, you can be sure that you can never go wrong with a universally flattering A-line skirt. Not only is the A-line skirt perfect for your tiny frame, it creates an instant hourglass shape, too!

Don't! Be afraid to make mistakes.

Whether you're curvy, tall, athletic, or petite, no one is truly safe from committing a fashion faux pas. So don't be afraid to try new brands and trends that are beyond your comfort zones. As Dr. K in This Is Us said "There's no lemon so sour that you can't make something resembling lemonade," and that goes the same way for fashion. There's no OOTD so big of a fashion crime that you can't make something resembling a look straight out of the runway out of it.
