Dear Candy girls,
Here are some thoughts as we start another school year!
I always love starting the year off with inspiration. It gets me excited and determined to succeed. (”To increase your success at your personal fulfillment, strive for maximence—the practice of giving your best—to close the gap between your performance and your potential.” —Joseph Klock) Have the right attitude—do your best at all times. (”Don’t say you don’t have enough time. You have exactly the same number of hours per day that were given to Helen Keller, Michelangelo, Albert Einstein and Mother Teresa.”) This year, believe in yourself. Aim for the moon, even if you fail, you fall among the stars. Make it a year to remember.

One thing that is about to knock my socks off are Index Cards. All the first days of my college life, we have to submit index cards with our personal information plus a 1×1 ID pic and each subject may have a different size demand, which will make me have to buy a whole pack of all the sizes when all I really need is one or maybe two. Sorry, that’s one thing I’m frustrated about. But, I love my first week so far. I really missed my college friends and it gave me so much joy seeing them once again! Plus, I have met new friends as well within that one week! My subjects may seem hardcore (physics, chemistry, biology and comm) but so far my first impressions were wrong. I have good professors, bittersweet course syllabuses and some air-conditioned classrooms!
No matter how crazy I may sound and you’d probably go “Rubie, you are such a nerd!” but I am really looking forward to all my courses! I have this paradigm that what I do during my first days in school would be what I would be doing for the rest of the year so I made sure that I didn’t spend so much for lunch and I walked to my classes! Just so I would get more exercise! :p Looking forward for a great year ahead! My first day blues has definitely gone bye-bye! —Rubie
My professor lay down the rules for his class during my first day. I was expecting to hear some hardcore regulations regarding attendance and deadlines. But lo and behold, he did the complete opposite and told us, “I’m allowing you to play your PSP’s and mp3’s during my class but please, just don’t get caught!” —Sandra
I love my first day in school. First, because I saw all my classmates after two months (that was a long two months!) and second, it’s just so much fun to go back to the institution that has been my home for four academic years. Yes, come March, 2009, I’m officially graduating (that is, if I’ll pass my SIX Math subjects :p)! Anyway, my classmates and I spent the whole Tuesday looking for teachers. We had a little problem with our schedule so we had to fix it on our own. So, after three dozens of Coke zero (they’re on a diet, they all gained weight) and one can of Coke (with sugar for me), we finally came up with a good sched, hallelujah! The whole week was just so much fun, with kwentos here and there; I believe that this will be my best College year ever! And as my good friend put it, “Man, gagraduate na tayo!” Can’t wait! —Mheems
Even though I am a graduating student already, I’m still not excused to the “Introduce yourself and what-is-your-expectation” routine per class. Haha! For one class, we were asked to say what we stand for as a journalist, after much thinking, I said, “I stand up for respect. Respect in all aspects. Respect for myself, colleagues and work.” I added that I do not think I am fit to work in the news field because I have such a soft heart maybe I am more inclined in the Public Affairs programs. Meanwhile, I mentioned my internship in Candy (Summit) that opened my eyes to another field. I realized my heart belongs to the print industry. I am very optimistic for this school year! I have braced myself for the sleepless nights, stressful and haggard days. I hope and pray I can graduate with flying colors! —Bea
I’m graduating at the end of this semester, so I’m going through all the motions with a sense of finality—my last sem, my last enrolment, my last first week of school. It still feels a bit weird to be left behind by a sem (I studied in Singapore for a while). Though I have good friends from the lower batches, not being classmates with my besties, not seeing them in campus, will definitely take some getting used to. But of course, I’ll still see them from time to time during dinners out, and anyway I’ll be joining them in the labor force in a few months! (Ack! I don’t think I’m ready!) Meanwhile, there are so many things to occupy my mind like my full academic load, including thesis! Sigh. One last suicidal semester. Yes, I will graduate or die, whichever comes first! Here we go! ;p —Micah
I was pretty lonely during my first day of school cos most of my friends are already graduates. Nonetheless, my heart was relieved knowing that my professors are nice… except one! Haha. —Crissy
I am so completely psyched about senior year! Yesss! I’m all set for the new term, my /last/ term, *sniffle*. I’m currently not my hyper-makulit self, as I have a sore throat+fever+colds…i have this weird quirk about always getting sick on the first few weeks of school. I’ve been hanging out at school all week working with my fellow Book Lovers Club officers on the third floor bulletin board, the one that’s devoted to the library and literature in general. This week, it was back to waking up at four AM and coming home in the late afternoon…almost as if school has already started! I can’t wait to:
*start wearing my uniform again [never thought I’d miss it!]
*eat C2 and french fries everyday for lunch/recess
*brave EDSA every morning before rush hour
I’ve got plans to do things I’ve never done and do things I’ve always done–only better. It’s my last year in high school, and I intend to make a difference!=DDD
Psyching out, Gela
We hope you girls are all set for a brand new school year!
Do share your first week stories, too!
xoxo,
