Girls’ Night Out

Last Saturday, my high school barkada went out for the first time as grown-ups! Haha! You read that right! Our get-togethers since high school have always been in one of our houses (or at our debuts, haha). But now that we’re all done with college—yes, I just finished my student life!—and they are all working, it was about time we hit the town! Kit, Tricia, and I missed our other girls Chico (my BFF, who sadly had to work that night) and Agnes (who’s in the States now), but we still had loads and loads of fun. ;D

First stop of the night: Kitchen in Greenbelt 3. It’s a good place for get-togethers with friends – the ambience is great (dim lighting always has a lovely effect) and the prices aren’t hard on the pocket. Kit and Tricia shared On Barbie’s Cue (meat and seafood kebabs) while I had White Bay pasta (garlic sauce with mushrooms and cheese). Of course, dessert is always a must! We had Grand Slam, which the menu described as “crunchy butter pastry crusts alternately layered with whipped cream topped with chocolate shavings. Our mouthwatering version of tiramisu.” Yummy!

Going Back!

Last Sunday I was fortunate enough to reunite again with my 16-year old (soon to be 17!) cousin, Chantelle. The last time we saw each other was when we were 3 years old because her family moved to New York. Technically, we haven’t seen each other for more than a decade. We never really stayed in touch while she was abroad (when you’re 3 years old, the only things that revolve around your head are Barbie dolls and wooden blocks), but now that she’s back for her summer vacation, I cannot wait to catch up with her. :)

We really are related! We look alike don’t you think?

We ate in Via Mare (Greenbelt), a restaurant which serves authentic Filipino cuisine. My parents wanted to treat their family to Filipino food since New York doesn’t really provide options for the Pinoy tastebud.

Guess Who’s Back

Finally! After how many years of separation, siblings reunited. I got super emotional when I saw them again last June 27. Me and my sister Abby—we both cried. My, my have they grown. My brother who is 12 years old is now taller and bigger than me (Too bad my bullying days have officially been put to halt). My sister is no longer nene and has finally developed her own sense of style (I used to be her idol! She was my number 1 fan! She never admits it, though! Hahaha).

I can’t remember the last time I felt so eager to get home after school. I normally would prefer coming home late, but, of course, their presence wouldn’t let me—I’d seriously miss them. Being away from them for almost 2 years makes me want to spend as much time with them as possible. I want to catch up. I want to know what’s going on. I want to still be a part of their lives.

My mom has always told us that we all should respect and love each other unconditionally—all we have is each other. True enough for me, I feel that all I have is them. They’re my treasure. Ang cheesy. Haha!

2 more weeks and they’ll be heading back to the States, I really want to make their remaining moments here in the Philippines worthwhile, any suggestions? Are there must-hang places within the metro we shouldn’t miss? Food stuff we must eat? Let me know!

Thinking and thinking again,
Crissy

High School Reunion

Last Saturday, my high school barkada got together for a spontaneous reunion. During lunch, it hit me that we all became friends as high school freshmen. Of the five of us, I’m the only one left in school (hey, I’ve only one sem left, anyway!), which means we’ve all been friends for eight years and counting! Wow!

Here we are in high school, circa 2003: (L to R) Kit, me, Chico, Agnes and Tricia. (Our tambayan was right beside a huge garbage can! We got used to the smell. Haha!)
