Oh My. I was supposed to blog on the 5th of October but it’s my exams/finals week and I haven’t been in contact with the World Wide Web for the past week. But it’s better late than never right? And I couldn’t just miss the opportunity to write about our minimag! :)

First of all, I am so awed by it! When I bought it, it felt like it was a long lost treasure that I have just found. In those few pages, I definitely saw our hard work so I give my big congratulations to my COC-mates and of course the rest of the Candy! family for making it a success! It also brought back to so many memories and what I’m especially sharing to everyone is of course our cover girl, Jessica Wilson. We all know that the cover girl practically makes a magazine “read-worthy” especially for those who are first timers and don’t know what the magazine is all about. :)

We were all excited to meet Jessica Wilson because besides her exuding beauty, she intrigues us and she’s someone that girls like me would genuinely admire. The photshoot for the cover was the first major activity we did for the mini magazine. It was a wonderful experience for all us! I felt both nervous and excited. I was nervous because I sort of headed the styling but I was excited because I would get one on one time with Jessica. And even in that short span of time, I got to know her better.

When she came, it was obvious that the first thing we thought of was, “She is SO gorgeous” because she really was. She was like a goddess—tall, refined, sweet and adorable. While she did her make up, Mheems and I got the chance to interview her. The fruit of the interview can be read in the magazine of course. J We both didn’t have a hard time talking to her. We were shy at first but she made us feel at ease and she answered our questions comfortably which made the interview very informal and casual. It’s like talking to a friend. :)

I hope all the Candy girls were able to rock it out during the Candy Fair in A.Venue, Makati! We COC 8 girls grabbed the opportunity to make the event a mini-reunion for us. Too bad Rubie wasn’t able to make it! :’(

Anyway, I also hope you guys were able to flip through the Council’s minimag already because we’ve put so much of our time and effort to come up with such an awesome (it is, in my opinion, AWESOME!) minimag just so we could share our experiences in working for our favorite magazine. From the fashion and beauty shoot, to the staff shoot, to the field trip, down to the celebrity shoot, we had a gazillion pictures which we all wanted to put in the magazine! Of course due to that impossibility, we put the decent ones (as mentioned by Crissy) and left the really wacky ones for us to share here in the Candy blog! Enjoy!

That blank space was for me!

That blank space was for me!

Sadly, during the staff shoot I had Math and Filipino finals which I couldn’t forego. But the Candy girls were gracious enough to understand and left me a space so they could Photoshop me beside Mheems! ((: I really wanted to attend the shoot but I had to prioritize school first. Nonetheless, my Photoshopped-self is our little secret okay? Lol!

Making Our Minimag: Feature Articles

So! The feature articles. (And yes, it really is me, Gela, back in the flesh! =D)

Obviously I can’t say much about the part of the articles that I didn’t take part in writing, because I wasn’t there to witness them being born. But I sure can tell you about the part Pat and I worked on, namely the quiz.

It took a lot of idea-changing and a lot of drafts before the two of us finally came up with that. My original idea was “What Type of Explorer Are You?” in relation to the theme EXPLORE! I was thinking the answers would be something like archaeologist-captain-traveler-something (I never got around to deciding on the last option because we thought of a different idea).

The final one came out, I remember, during our Hotspot shoot. I’d asked Pat to ride with us in the Adventure, and the two of us were in the back-back seat while Rubie, Sandra and Mheems (did I get that right? haha! I forgot.) were in the middle-back seat. We both had our notebooks open, and ideas just started flowing right out of us. Funny how that happens when we’re all together. It’s like when we’re getting really into brainstorming, our minds connect effortlessly onto one track, one wavelength, and it all comes together and bam! we come up with something. One time, the eds even said they should have done more brainstorming with us. Haha! Well, going back. Somewhere during that bumpy ride, we came up with the idea of thinking about the gadget the reader uses most and telling the reader what kind of exploring she should do more. Within the span of say, five minutes, we already had a basic outline and a draft of the design, and once that was done, we shut our notebooks and joined into the other girls’ conversation on school and Gossip Girl (although I couldn’t relate with that! =P) as we cruised along the roads.

Making Our Minimag: What Exactly Happened?

You see how everything is perfectly mapped out on our mini mag and how clean and nicely clad we all look in our photos. But what exactly happened during the shoots, the laughs, and all that jazz?

  1. Fan girls happened.
It’s not everyday that you get to have a decent conversation with famous teen stars—even if the topic is limited to baking cookies and Wii. We were all trying to keep our cool, putting on a very calm façade, but deep inside we all were melting. We love Matt. He’s cute. We love Melissa too, but no, not in a romantic way. Haha! They’re both so nice! So it was pretty obvious that we inevitably found ourselves grabbing a photo opportunity (and/or autographs). :)
