Waiting for The Hunger Games
March 23, 2012 at 6:01 pmTags: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, movie adaptations, movies, suzanne collins, The Hunger Games
On March 22, 2012 (in the Philippines), the world will be watching the 74th Hunger Games along with the citizens of Panem. I’m sure this Hunger Games will be nothing like the previous ones.
I’ve been waiting for this movie for more than 2 years already. At first, I really tried not to get myself excited for it since movie adaptations of books usually don’t live up to what I imagined them to be but after reading the reviews on The Hunger Games movie, I really can’t wait to watch it!
Here are some of the reviews from reliable and esteemed sources (unbelievably, almost all gave 5 out of 5 stars or 100% ratings!):
“It’s better and scarier than its source book, and aims an angry eye at our bloodthirsty, watch-anything-and-cheer culture.” —Joe Neumaier of New York Daily News
“The thing that finally pushes The Hunger Games over the top is the performance by Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen … it is a pure movie star performance, and Lawrence rises to the occasion.” —Drew McWeeney of HitFix
“When a series has sold millions of copies, as Suzanne Collins’ trilogy has, the default position is to produce something that will look just as readers imagined, to show what we were all thinking, rather than offer something nobody had considered. The Hunger Games as a novel has been dissected, expanded and retooled into something intelligent, immersive and powerfully current.” —Olly Richards of Empire Magazine
Just reading all of these is making me excited! But what really gets me going are the parts/scenes I’m excited to see. There are so many important scenes in The Hunger Games book and I hope I get to see them there—the way I imagined it to be.
As its soundtrack hasn’t disappointed yet with hits like “Safe and Sound,” I’m hoping The Hunger Games will live up to the expectations of the fans that have been highly anticipating its release.
Here’s a sneak peek of one of my FAVORITE parts from the book:
Are you excited to watch The Hunger Games too?

It’s the third Friday of the month and I guess several students are already out and about to face Mr. Sun with a warm welcome! Summer is fast approaching and of course, all of us are so giddy with everything lined up for this break! A few of us are scheduling trips here and there or maybe downloading songs to complete your ultimate summer playlist that screams nothing but fun. Rather than making my list of must-haves, you’ll surely love to see several hair styles that are definitely in for this time of the year! There are tons of styles you surely can’t miss this season!
- On a regular hot day and you’re feeling lazy to fix your ‘do, one tip for you is to have the messy bun. You’ll have that effortless style that’s still very chic and youthful in less than 5 minutes!

March is really one heck of a ride for most students especially if you’re graduating. With all the exams, quizzes, and requirements you have to accomplish in a few weeks’ time, it really is a wonder how many girls can still manage to plan their summers in advance.
For those who are looking into taking vacations come April, here are a few tips for you gals.
- Ask permission in advance. Let’s face it, although we are in 21st century, parents still get anxious with the thought of their kids, especially daughters running around in someplace unsupervised. Not being allowed to go when everything is already set is that bummer you’d want to avoid.
- Start saving early. Although your mom and dad will surely give you a few bucks to blow, saving some moolah can indeed be handy especially when it’s time to get pasalubong for your family.

Get to know your vacation destination. Knowing where to get supplies such as ice, and water will always come in handy. You’ll never know when you’ll forget something. Also, be sure that the area is as safe as it can be. Get the needed emergency numbers such as the local police and fire station hotlines. It’s better to be safe than sorry.- Learn to pack light. It’s difficult packing everything you need when you have the temptation to grab every little summer outfit inside your closet. Deal with this by making a list of what you need. Toiletries, underwear, swimsuits and of course a first aid kit should be the first ones in. Second, make a list of the outfits you want to sport. Limit yourself to two outfits per day. You’re on a vacation, not a fasion show so dress accordingly.

Keep communication constant between you and your parents. The more that you reassure your ‘rents that you are in good hands, the less nervous they will be. Plus, next time around they will trust you more that you a responsible adult already.
I hope this helps Candy Girls! Have fun and hope you have a great summer!

Oscars Red Carpet
February 29, 2012 at 8:00 amTags: actress, Angelina Jolie, Best Dressed List, couture, Giuliana Rancic, gowns, Jessica Chastain, Maria Menounos, Octavia Spencer, oscars, Oscars 2012, red carpet
Yes! It’s definitely the time of the year again when actors and actresses get all dolled up and when fans like me keep our eyes peeled to catch the biggest red carpet event that’ll definitely be the talk of the world for days! Sadly, though, I wasn’t able to catch it live since I had to be in school but of course, right after I got home last Monday, I Googled several red carpet report cards for this year’s Oscars to see the most glamorous gowns and who topped the best dressed lists.
Here are my top five picks:
The Atelier Verace gown that Angelina Jolie wore literally made my jaw drop. From the effortless hair, the gown, the toned body to that thigh-high slit, wow… just wow. (*slow claps*, hahaha)
If I were to choose one gown from this event, I would absolutely pick this one. I think Access Hollywood host Maria Menounos was one of the most gorgeous beauties in this noteworthy event! She looked very sophisticated and elegant—two of the things I believe are important to consider in choosing which gown to wear at any significant event!
Another one of my picks is this black and gold number worn by Jessica Chastain. I think that you can never go wrong with an Alexander McQueen creation on the red carpet—unless you’re channelling your inner Lady Gaga. (Oh please no, haha)
Host and reality show star Giuliana Rancic deserves a place in my list since I think that this Tony Ward gown may be risky to wear. It’s like you either work that dress or you get a lot of nasty reviews. Good thing she looked chic and fabulous! I just hope that she decided to go with a different hairstyle, though.
It’s harder to dress when you don’t have a slim figure, but Octavia Spencer looked confident and dazzling in her white, sparkly Tadashi Shoji number!
There you go! I hope you’re having a great week! ‘Til the next!
xx,
Dana

We’ve been looking forward to this day for the longest time and as it slowly approaches, we realize we just can’t let go. We didn’t think it would come this fast but now it’s here and there’s nothing we can do about it. Seniors, our high school days are sadly coming to an end.
The past few weeks have made me so sentimental—the last time I will represent my school in a softball game, the last day of regular classes, the last time I will be taught by my teachers, the last time with my class, and so much more. Looking back, I’ve had so many good memories and made many good friends these past four years; it’s hard to imagine school without them. Here are a few high school groups and memories I will miss:
1. My barkada
They’ve been there for me through thick and thin. With everyone heading off to different colleges, it will be hard to get through the first few months without them. Even if they’ll be just a phone call away, it’s not the same when we’re not together in person.
2. Softball
I’ve been playing with them since the 7th grade and it’s crazy to think that I’m not a part of their team anymore. I almost cried knowing that I won’t be playing with these girls EVER again.
I’m gonna miss their craziness and annoying quirks. They’re my second family and it’s hard to say goodbye to that.
3. Red
Detaching myself from Red and intrams is crazy hard! I can’t believe that this year was the last chance for me to dance for my team. It’s hard to accept the fact that I will only be part of the audience next year and not helping out as a mommy or anything. I’ll surely miss being with all of them.
4. Batch 2012
My batch is crazy and I’m gonna miss being “normal” around them. It’s hard to imagine not seeing all their faces every day. So for last few days of high school, I have to make most of the time I have left with them because no one knows when we’ll ever be complete again!
Sad to say but it’s time for us to say goodbye to the many memories of our high school lives. How about you? What are going to miss about high school?
