Day in the Life of Candy

Some of the things in my bucket list are to go to Paris and see the Eiffel Tower + the Louvre, visit the amazing Bora Bora, get a glimpse of the different wonders of the world. Since I’m only 16—and I bet I have to wait for quite a while before I get to tick those things off my list—I want to explore the beautiful places our country has to offer first.

With this post, I’ll share with you the different places I’ve been to around our country—of course, each place did not disappoint!

{Baguio & Sagada}

If you are too tired of the summer sun, pack your bags and go on a trip here! I got to go down the Sumaging Cave in Sagada which definitely gave my stay there an extra load of adventure & fun. Meanwhile, paying a visit to the Grotto down to a stroll at the Burnham Park, made a memorable Baguio experience.

{Ilocos}

Riding the Calesa ride in Vigan, trying the famous Bagnet and seeing firsthand some of the most historic churches made me enjoy the beautiful Ilocos!

{Boracay}

It’s been such a long time since I went here but obviously, it’s still as beautiful as it is before ’cause it’s still one of the places here in our country that gets a lot of visit every now and then. I love how the water is so clear, how the sand is so fine and how hospitable and friendly the people there are!

{Bicol}

The sound of Whale Sharks/Butanding may scare you but, I’m telling you, it was one of the most exciting things I’ve done up to date! Don’t leave the place without trying the yummy Pili nuts + get ready for some wakeboarding at CamSur!

I hope you watched the video ’cause it was truly amazing!!! With all the picturesque spots our country has, it makes me so happy and proud to have visited some of it. Also, I can’t wait to explore Palawan, Cebu and Davao sometime in the future!

I’m totally excited for next week ‘cause I, together with my ultimate loves (yep, that’s my family), planned to explore the Summer Capital of the Philippines, Baguio, once again. I’m sure I’ll have tons of fun with them! Hope you all are enjoying the week! ☺

I’ve always been a huge fan of Taylor Swift even from her “Our Song” days. That was until she started going for the loves of my life like Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, and Garrett Hedlund. But apart from our same taste in guys, I’d like to think that we’re both fearless as well. While she’s not afraid to fall in love, I’m not afraid to crush.

I remember during sophomore year I was seated next to an amazingly quiet seatmate who rarely smiles and somehow manages to always keep a poker face on. Being the chatty little girl that I am, I proceeded to poke her and distract her from her numerous amount of Kumon worksheets but to no avail. So imagine my delight when one day I finally got her to chat and laugh. And you guessed it, the topic: boys. Well Hollywood guys to be exact.

The number chart wouldn’t be enough to count the number of Hollywood celebs that I have gone gaga for. So let me walk you Candy Girls through some of my crushes through the years. Well those I remember anyway.

Seven years old:

Mark Read

I remember back when I was in first grade and boy bands such as Backstreet Boys and A1 were all the hype. I used to throw a tantrum whenever my classmate would brag to me what she went out on a date with Mark Read from A1. Gah! I could just picture my mom’s face when I told her all about it. Total embarrassment!

Nine years old:

Danny Phantom

Call me crazy but yes there was a time in my life when I fell hard for Danny Fenton a.k.a. Danny Phantom.

Twelve years old:

Randy Orton

Then came my weird fascination for violence, scripted fights, and not to mention muscled guys. Yes, sixth grade was the start of my obsession with wrestling… and Randy Orton.

Fourteen years old:

Joe Jonas

Back in 2008, like most teenage girls in the world I also caught the Jonas Fever. And even though Kevin clearly got all the guitar skills and Nick got all the singing ability, Joe is still the clear winner for me. Until he cut his amazing hair, grew a stache, and broke a lot of hearts.

Seventeen years old:

Taylor Lautner

Crush is an understatement for what I feel for this amazing dude. If only I had the ability to fly, I would fly myself to L.A. and sweep him off his feet. Literally!

So Candy Girls, after all my babbling, it’s your turn now. I would love to hear from you about all the guys who have swept you off your feet. Be it celebs or real men.

Sparks and Love,
Janelle:-*

High On Coke

As soon as I heard about the Concert ng Bayan event Coca-Cola would be hosting in lieu of their 100th anniversary, I immediately jumped at the chance to attend the event. I’ll admit that I’m not exactly a huge fan of softdrinks, but Coca-Cola products are a huge exception! Coke has especially been helpful to me, from fighting off pains of being a woman (you know… that time of the month) to being a mere thirst quencher on a hot sunny day. More than being ever so grateful for the company, I decided to go because the artist lineup seemed so appealing!
I found myself at the Mall of Asia last March 23rd with my sister and thousands of others for the Concert Ng Bayan. The concert grounds were bleeding red from the Coke floats and tarpaulins. That and the enthusiasm from the crowd brought the place to life as I found myself infected with the energy that filled the place!
The artists I got to watch were amazing: Gloc9, Parokya ni Edgar, Sarah Geronimo, Somedaydream and Gary Valenciano (with his son, Gab!), and of course, Craig David!
I was especially happy as soon as Gary V called Gab to go onstage. I’ve had a crush on him since I first saw him dance when I was a senior in high school -__- What is kilig?!
With that aside, can I just comment on Coke’s advertising?! ABSOLUTE BRILLIANCE. The audio-visual presentation projected on the nearby building followed by fireworks set to Coke’s centennial theme was just spectacular! I was even more amazed that the company got endorsers that would reach out to a wide variety of people. I was practically in awe and spent the rest of the night gushing about how wonderful the whole thing was!

*Just a side note, I’d like to say thank you to the people I got to spend the night with: my sister plus Rebecca and her cousin!
If anything, the experience made me love Coca-Cola even more :’) Which is why I’m encouraging you guys to support the company on its 100th year and treat yourself to a refreshing bottle of Coke!

Getting Ready

March is really one heck of a ride for most students especially if you’re graduating. With all the exams, quizzes, and requirements you have to accomplish in a few weeks’ time, it really is a wonder how many girls can still manage to plan their summers in advance.

For those who are looking into taking vacations come April, here are a few tips for you gals.

  1. Ask permission in advance. Let’s face it, although we are in 21st century, parents still get anxious with the thought of their kids, especially daughters running around in someplace unsupervised. Not being allowed to go when everything is already set is that bummer you’d want to avoid.
  2. Start saving early. Although your mom and dad will surely give you a few bucks to blow, saving some moolah can indeed be handy especially when it’s time to get pasalubong for your family.

  3. Get to know your vacation destination. Knowing where to get supplies such as ice, and water will always come in handy. You’ll never know when you’ll forget something. Also, be sure that the area is as safe as it can be. Get the needed emergency numbers such as the local police and fire station hotlines. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
  4. Learn to pack light. It’s difficult packing everything you need when you have the temptation to grab every little summer outfit inside your closet. Deal with this by making a list of what you need. Toiletries, underwear, swimsuits and of course a first aid kit should be the first ones in. Second, make a list of the outfits you want to sport. Limit yourself to two outfits per day. You’re on a vacation, not a fasion show so dress accordingly.

  5. Keep communication constant between you and your parents. The more that you reassure your ‘rents that you are in good hands, the less nervous they will be. Plus, next time around they will trust you more that you a responsible adult already.

I hope this helps Candy Girls! Have fun and hope you have a great summer!

Dear Candy Girl,

If you’re reading this right now, I trust it’s not by chance. The purpose of this letter and this blog entry, although it may seem heavier than the rest of my posts, is that I want to remind you just how precious and beautiful you are.

Growing up is tough, and many times, there will be circumstances when rejection will hit you hard.  It has been said that what people want the most is acceptance, and what they fear the most is rejection. Sometimes, it’s the fear of rejection that drives us, especially in our growing up years. We struggle to find a place in this world, desperately trying to figure out what we’re good at. We give importance to hanging out with friends and the people around us. We look for our other half that we want to exclusively belong with.

But rejection can come in many forms. It can be through a clique that wouldn’t let you sit on their table, or your other half that changed his mind. It could be an entrance test you failed, or an org that didn’t want you in it. It could also include being laughed at as you go through these awkward phases.

Rejection would come a lot of times in high school. These would often make you feel like you’re not precious or beautiful. I hope that in the face of these trials, you can remember and hold on to the truth that you are precious and beautiful. Not everyone would be able to see that, but I hope you don’t waste your time trying to please everyone or being bothered what every single person thinks of you. We all perceive the same thing differently, so you can never please everyone. As the saying goes, the people who matter don’t mind, and the people who mind don’t matter. I hope that we would surround ourselves with the people who matter.

So dearest Candy Girl, I hope you hone and reveal the real you, and realize that the people who deserve you would be those who see the best in you shining through. Remember: you’re beautiful and precious.

Your Fellow Candy Girl,
Rebecca
