Day in the Life of Candy

I. Am. Out. Of. Words.

University of the Philippines, Pep Squad won FIRST PLACE once again in the 2008 UAAP Cheerdance Competition!
And nothing can compare to how proud and happy I was when I heard my school be crowned the Champions for the second time around.
Back-to-back Champions, two consecutive years of triumph, during my two years in UP! Come to think of it, maybe I am a lucky charm. Hihi. So, it was a very tiring day inside the big dome because I was so hyped up that I couldn’t sit down. Well, it wasn’t just me, it was shared by my fellow Iskolars ng Bayan, some were even worse than me.

I have always loved Pixar animated films and my two top favorites would be Meet the Robinsons and Finding Nemo but this movie definitely climbs up to the top spot. The movie is none other than Wall-e! I bet everyone who has watched it would agree with me and to those who haven’t I’m sure you will right after you get yourself a ticket!
My family and I were in SM Mall of Asia last Sunday figuring out what to do because it was a late celebration for my sister’s birthday. So, after shopping through some stores, we went to Tagaytay Highlands Steakhouse for dinner, which was a restaurant that I think would have the best ambiance and setting in the whole Mall of Asia. If you haven’t been there it’s located at the very end of the mall, parallel with the bay and near the IMAX center. The food is pricey but the meals are good for two and besides if it’s a special occasion (my sister’s birthday) then it’s okay to splurge. After a delicious dinner, we were thinking of a “family” movie because usually every Sunday we would watch a movie. Our family is composed of movie junkies. Then, we heard good review about Wall-e and decided to watch it! Luckily, our parents were game for an animated film.

Last August 13, 1987, when I didn’t even exist yet, someone was brought to life and twenty-one years later, that someone still continues to bring life not just to me but also to my whole family.
A HAPPY 21st BIRTHDAY TO MY WONDERFUL SISTER, PEARL!
(I’m sure the Candy staff sends their greeting as well. *wink*)
My sister was born on a very rainy day and I guess it’s some supernatural or maybe even a divine design that it still rains during her special day. I am sure you all felt the heavy downpour last night. Do you want to know a funny trivia about her? You know how the PAG-ASA names a storm for easier recognition? Well, the storm when she was born was called Herming and my mother, who probably thought that the rain was a blessing, had thoughts of naming my sister, Hermenia, after the storm! Good thing, my dad came to the rescue! I wonder how life would have been for my sister if she had Hermenia as her name. “Hello, Hermie!” I can’t even imagine.

“We’re feelin’ alive all over again
As deep as a scar under my skin
Like bein’ in love, she says,
For the first time”
I am in current LSS with the song, First Time by Lifehouse. Maybe it’s caused by the major hangover I have from their concert last Saturday, July 26, 2008 at the Araneta Coliseum. I rocked with my sister along with her two friends in lower box center seats, which was the cute little portion in the big dome that only occupied around 100 or less people.

When I watched Ironman and Incredible Hulk, I thought that Dark Knight would probably be the same superhero film that has been wreaking havoc in the movie industry. I wasn’t one of those I-must-buy-that-dark-knight-shirt or I-must-be-able-to-watch-the-premiere-showing people because I wasn’t expecting all that much maybe except to witness Heath Ledger’s final movie.
But… I was dead wrong.
Oh-My-Gulay! I give the movie a gazillion thumbs up! I was in awe the whole time I was watching it. Even if it’s almost two and half hours long, it was worth it. The one hundred seventy pesos I paid were worth it. If I get invited to watch it again, it will be worth it. Let’s all give a standing ovation to Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Aaron Eckhart, Gary Oldman, and even to Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, and Maggie Gyllenhaal. Probably besides the creative story, the movie became even more extraordinary because of the cast. Each one of them played their roles very well! I would like to give a special mention to Heath Ledger. I know it’s would be a challenge to play Joker but he played it in a way that I saw effortless. For a final film, he blew the house away. Usually, I hold grudges with actors who play the villain but with him, I just felt pure amazement. He was a talented actor.
