Day in the Life of Candy
Author Archive
It’s been about a year since the Style Diary September 2010 issue was published. This was the first time I’ve ever been published in Candy Magazine! I’ve always loved Candy Mag ever since I was a little girl, so this was a real milestone for me.
I’ll always be a Candy Girl inside and out!

It’s almost impossible be contented. For example, you see a new gadget, and you have this sudden itch to grab it off the store shelf. I’m not judging you, because I myself sometimes get that feeling too.
Last weekend, as part of my senior requirement, I had to go through an immersion; a three day two night stay with a host family in a very unfamiliar area.
Along with 21 other students, we packed our bags and geared up for a weekend we’ll never forget.
Majority of the area we stayed in was submerged knee-deep in murky water. Houses were built from various materials that include mismatched sizes of wood, metal and plastic. The idea of room space turns into a luxury as most families have no choice but to embrace what they have. For people that are absolutely detached from them, outsiders would immediately jump to feelings of pity, but upon knowing all of them, the people in our immersion area are one of the happiest communities I’ve ever met in my life.
They are completely welcoming and undeniably warm. Their generosity is amazing as well. Whatever they have, they are more than willing to let you have a piece of their pie. Whenever I visit my other friends’ houses, their host families invite me in and accommodate me as if I was part of their home. They really inspire selflessness and are the complete epitome of friendliness.
In that brief weekend, I’ve learned that life is truly a unique experience. Though some may look at that simple community and feel nothing but anguish for their condition, take a second look. I’ve lived long enough to see financially wealthy individuals live a life of misery, yet the people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting this weekend were genuinely contended and just plain happy.
After everything that happened to me, I learned that I should be grateful for whatever life I’m living. If I’m not happy, then I should strive for happiness but to not find it in material possessions. I won’t lie and say I’ve done a complete 180 in my life, but my eyes are more open to the world that we live in, and I’ve learned how to be appreciative of where I am right now.
To my host family and host community, my heartfelt gratitude goes out to all of you.
Be happy!

Keep On Tumbl(r)ing
July 27, 2011 at 3:07 pmTags: Desserts, food, Karlie Kloss, Models, the oc, tumblr
Everybody nowadays find it hard to stay disconnected. The Internet is just brimming with social networking sites, fashion blogs and the like, but the thing that always lures me back in is Tumblr.
I’m pretty sure by now everyone is privy to this simple yet high impact website. I see tumblr as a visual Twitter; where people leave short but sweet ditties or images, and share it with people all over the world.
If you guys are new to tumblr.com, no worries. You will certainly get the hang of it in no time. For now, allow me to share with you guys my top 3 favorite tumblr sites. Maybe you’d want to follow them as well.
Food Ahoy! (http://www.gastrogirl.tumblr.com)
I am a sucker for great photography and a definite foodie, so if you share the same sentiments as I do, then head on over for a visual feast at Gastro Girl. This website shows decadent desserts and copious amounts of mouthwatering treats that will surely get your food craving going. Sometimes, her entries include a recipe so that you’ll be enticed to whip up your own homemade batch at home.
Gastro Girl’s mission states that she’s “saving the world one bit[e] at a time,” and I think she’s on to something.

Off Duty Divas (http://www.modelstreetarchive.tumblr.com)
Everybody has his or her favorite runway superstar (mine is Karlie Kloss), and in this tumblr, you get to see models and how they go about their lives off the catwalk. Some images are of them stepping up for a stroll or running errands, while some of them are post show images. The thing that I like about this is that models are always told what to wear under the spotlight and seeing their real style come through, just shows me that these girls have great fashion mind sof their own.

California… (http://www.theocsubs.tumblr.com)
I don’t know if I’ve shared this with you guys but I’ve always had a place in my heart for The OC. I swear when Marissa Cooper died in the Season 3 finale, a little bit of my would died with her, and when the show met an unexpected demise, I cried a river.
Until today, I always tell people that The OC Season 1 is THE best season of any show I’ve ever seen in my life. This tumblr site keeps Newport flair alive and kicking, and I always get a thrill of going, “Oh yeah! I remember that episode.” If you are reminiscent like I am, then I suggest you immediately follow this tumblog to get your daily dose of California sunshine.
And PS, I will forever be a Seth and Summer fan!

I’ve had my iPod touch (names Sam 2.0) for about four years now, and it is by far the best gadget I’ve ever owned. The newest iPods today have a camera, HD recording and speakers, but I’ll always love my first generation iPod touch. Sam 2.0 houses my music, my avid collection of videos, my updated photo gallery and of course, my apps.
I love my apps! And so, to show some appreciation to my lovely apps, here is a list of my fave five iPod apps I have ever downloaded. (In no particular order)
- Pocket God
- I call this my stress reliever. In this game, you are the creator and you control the fate of a small population of islanders called pygmies. You can make them dance, make them fend of a dinosaur or even cook a bird over an open fire! This game has been garnering buzz everywhere so you should see for yourself what the fuss is all about!

- Wedding Dash
- Plan the wedding of a century! Here, you are an aspiring wedding planner named Quinn who gets her first gig planning a friend’s wedding. Then from a successful first round, your wedding events get more and more elaborate! However, with great power comes great responsibility. The higher up the tier she goes, the more complicated things get. Truly addictive and 100% fun!

- Kana Strokes
- An educational app for those interested in learning how to write in Japanese. When I was a sophomore, I had a class for basic Japanese and I’d like to maintain my familiarity with their two alphabets, Katakana and Hiragana. This app will not only show you the meaning of each symbol but the proper way on how to write it.

- Plants vs. Zombies
- Now I know what you’re thinking, but this was seriously one of the best apps I’ve ever owned. There are several differences from the PC format, but they are both scary good. Battle zombies with nature’s wrath!

The Start of Something New
June 15, 2011 at 2:20 pmI bet most of you Candy Girls are already back in school. The usual orientations, submission of index information cards to the teacher etc. For me, this year is going to be different. This year, I’ll be graduating from college.
It’s pretty unnerving to know that as I started my first day of senior class, it was also at the same time, my last first day as an official student. Sure, I can take my masters degree next year, but then it’ll just be an extension of my education. So to speak, it isn’t a requirement to take it anymore. My college experience is about to end, but I’m grateful for every moment of it.
I’m guessing some of you girls are also seniors, whether it be in high school or grade 6 in elementary school. As terrifying as it is to embark on new ground, it can also be an opportunity for greatness ahead. There’s really no use in trying to stop growing up. All you have to do is to go with the flow and enjoy where you are at as of the moment.
I hope you feel as optimistic as I do about this year, Candy Girls!
Until Next Time!

Roxy
