Day in the Life of Candy

Goodbye isn’t always the easiest word to say, and being tasked to be the last COC8 member to blog is quite a daunting task. (Mheems and Bea were so kind as to arrange the last blog sequence, and though I’m moved they put me last, I do feel the pressure. Haha.)
I was wondering how to go about this entry, and initially I thought of writing a serious tear-jerker. But then, I realized that a) we COC8 girls already have, on several occasions, waxed sentimental about our journey—you girls already know how much fun we’ve had, how much we treasure the year that has passed, and all that jazz, and b) we’ve passed the denial and bargaining stages (really, we tried to convince Ate Marla to keep us, hahaha) and are now in the acceptance stage. Haha. I figured, I wanted a farewell that will reflect the eighth batch of Council girls (at least from my perspective!): bright, spirited, and of course, Cool with a capital C. (Hopefully my entry is cool. Haha.)
Eight Photographs
Let’s quickly review the year with some COC8 snapshots:
- We were introduced in the December 2007 issue. And everyone knew the page number by heart! Haha!
- At this council meeting in January, we met Dino Imperial. This was also the meeting when we all brought food and surprised the editors with a mini picnic!

- At our March meeting, we met the Sam Concepcion. Hehe.

- On April 26, we had our first meeting about the minimag. We did our brainstorming and disrupted the peace in Seattle’s Best, Bonifacio High Street.

It’s a bit funny that Rubie recently blogged about her org’s baking day, because I also had a baking day myself! Last Thursday, my good friends Peps (who’s also my thesis partner!) and JM came over to my place for an important mission—Peps and I were going to bake cakes for our boys!
Thursday was the last day I could see my friends before I leave for a 37-day Singapore trip, and since Peps didn’t want to bake without me (haha!), we did our baking then, even if her boyfriend’s birthday is tomorrow! Haha!
I do bake once in a while, but I usually go for bars (butterscotch being my “specialty”). It was my first time to bake a cake. I’ll let our photos show you how our kitchen adventures went…

We got home after getting some ingredients from the grocery, and we were so excited to bake! After checking that we had all the ingredients, JM and Peps took care of the first step: sifting the dry ingredients!

Micah’s Fabulous Gastronomic Discoveries!
October 26, 2008 at 10:52 amTags: BF Homes, BoNa Coffee, Chi's Brick Oven, Combi's, discoveries, firsts, Parañaque, restaurants, Sango
Hey girls! In line with the exploring that our COC8 minimag is espousing, I’ve recently adopted a new eating-out policy—if I can help it, I’ll only go somewhere I haven’t tried before. And with the wonderful company of my friends, I’ve been doing just that! Here’s my best-of list, covering this past week: (I only have photos of Combi’s because my dad brought our SmartMedia card reader to Singapore, how sad.)
- Kitchen (Greenbelt 3, Makati)
My last entry was about my get-together with high school girlfriends at Kitchen, so you can just review that. Haha, half-kidding! I enjoyed Kitchen because of the nice ambience and the good food – and best of all, the reasonable prices. I’m surely coming back… Wonder who I can eat with then? - Sango! (Pearl Drive Plaza, Ortigas)
My guy pal Misha introduced me to “The Burger Master” last Monday, and it was a great discovery! He ordered the Yakiniku Burger while I had a Teriyaki Burger. Both were great, and so were the fries and the fruit sodas! Quite pricey (around P100 for a burger), so it’ll be an occasional indulgence, but the burgers are definitely worth going back for. Plus, you get to take home a little origami creation. I was given a green and purple flower – love the colors, the waitress must have been psychic!
- Combi’s (Maginhawa Street, Teacher’s Village, QC)
The day I finally submitted the soft copies of my thesis, I headed to Combi’s for dessert with my orgmate Lau. We had their Fried Cookies, which is just like Wicked Oreos from Flaming Wings – deep-fried battered cookie sandwiches. I ordered it with ice cream, just the way I like it! Food aside, the place was wonderful. I was blown away by the sunshiney-ness of the place! It may be a good idea to go to Combi’s when you’re not in a good mood – all the bright colors are sure to lift your spirits.

Last Saturday, my high school barkada went out for the first time as grown-ups! Haha! You read that right! Our get-togethers since high school have always been in one of our houses (or at our debuts, haha). But now that we’re all done with college—yes, I just finished my student life!—and they are all working, it was about time we hit the town! Kit, Tricia, and I missed our other girls Chico (my BFF, who sadly had to work that night) and Agnes (who’s in the States now), but we still had loads and loads of fun. ;D
First stop of the night: Kitchen in Greenbelt 3. It’s a good place for get-togethers with friends – the ambience is great (dim lighting always has a lovely effect) and the prices aren’t hard on the pocket. Kit and Tricia shared On Barbie’s Cue (meat and seafood kebabs) while I had White Bay pasta (garlic sauce with mushrooms and cheese). Of course, dessert is always a must! We had Grand Slam, which the menu described as “crunchy butter pastry crusts alternately layered with whipped cream topped with chocolate shavings. Our mouthwatering version of tiramisu.” Yummy!

Hey, girls!
This is the first in a series of blog entries on the behind-the-scenes of the Council of Cool 8 minimag. The first order of business, of course, is to introduce our little baby.
After settling the editorial positions in a COC meeting with Ate Marla, the first real step was to have our brainstorming. So last April 26, we headed out to Seattle’s Best in Bonifacio High Street – where we had a major Oops! moment when my camera fell and we all screamed! Everyone turned to look at us! Eek!
After deciding on our theme and the articles and spreads we would have, we got to the real work. We did all the shoots in one week—the cover shoot on May 20, the fashion & beauty and staff shoot on May 22, the hotspots “field trip” on May 24, and the celebrities shoot on May 27 (my birthday!). Whew!
