Day in the Life of Candy

Bye, Candy girls!
Yes, bye for now. This will be the last time you’ll read my blog entry*sniff, sniff* in this really cute and adorable corner of candymag.com (Thanks to ate Macy and ate Roch). Thinking about it made me sad at first. But that’s just normal. I guess all the Council members of all the batches felt that too. But then, I realized that this is now the time of the next Council of Cool to show what they have and can offer. And we are sure that we are leaving the coolness factor to a deserving bunch of girls
So, instead of just crying (which I came so close to doing, haha), I’ll just share with you some facts about the Council of Cool 8, things that I will miss, things that I like most about them and the things that sets us apart.
- The Council of Cool 8 looooves McDonald’s. Every time we’ll have our meeting in the old office, our first stop will always be McDonald’s. When we went around the metro for our food trip, Bea, Sandra and I were looking at all the McDonald’s branches we passed by because we really wanted some crispy fries and hot fudge. Really crispy fries and frosty hot fudge. Crissy, on the other hand was craving for soggy fries. Quoting Crissy, “The soggier, the better!” Haha. I love her! Micah too has her own quirky side. She likes her ice cream melted. So before eating the ice cream, she allows it to melt first. Bet you didn’t know that.
- We call all the eds “ate” followed by their names. To us, they are ate Mia, ate Steph, ate Angel, ate Mimi, ate Marla, ate Margaux, ate Jennie, ate Macy, and ate Roch. But, you know what? They told us not to call them as such. During our first photo shoot, ate Mimi told us to call them by their names: no ate, no ma’am and especially no miss (like mizz Mimi, haha!) but we were all so makulit, so, we are really sorry… Ates. Haha!
- We also have our favorite cuties
Of course, there’s AJ and Dino and Sam (we’re all super lucky to meet Dino and Sam) but, our favorite Candy cuties are those who work behind the camera and uhm, the magazine. Our favorite photogs, Kuya Patrick and Kuya Daks and our favorite Candyman writer, Lio Mangubat. Kuya Patrick took our first and last staff picture. Ate Angel even said “Wow, they started with Patrick and ended with Patrick.” He also took the picture of Jess Wilson on the cover of the mini mag (November issue). We all loved it and it’s my favorite cover EVER! - Read the rest of this entry »

She cares better than any nurse, teaches better than any professor, and loves better than any lover. She wakes me up in the morning, cooks my breakfast and brings me to school every single day without complaining. She hugs me the tightest when I’m in my lowest and cheers the loudest when I’m at my, well, highest. She’s my biggest fan and my biggest critic. She grounds me for missed curfews and gives me “penalties” for breaking rules. But she gives me “incentives” for a job well done.
I cannot say how happy and grateful I am for being your daughter. And though, I am not a perfect daughter, I want you to know that I am doing my best to be an obedient and loving one.
For that and everything in between, I love you Mom. Happy birthday!
My Miracle Mother
Mom, I look at you
and see a walking miracle.
Your unfailing love without limit,
your ability to soothe my every hurt,
the way you are on duty, unselfishly,
every hour, every day,
makes me so grateful
that I am yours, and you are mine.
With open arms and open heart,
with enduring patience and inner strength,
you gave so much for me,
sometimes at your expense.
You are my teacher,
my comforter, my encourager,
appreciating all, forgiving all.
Sometimes I took you for granted, Mom,
but I don’t now, and I never will again.
I know that everything I am today
relates to you and your loving care.
I gaze in wonder
as I watch you being you—
my miracle, my mother.

Mommy’s not so little angel,
Mheems
P.S: Happy birthday to ate Macy and ate Marla too!

Never in my wildest dreams did I ever imagine myself saying this: “I am going to miss school.”
You see, it’s just about five months ’til I finally say toodles to my oh-so-crazy college life and hello to the REAL world. Yes, you read that right. I am going to graduate come March, 2009. Sigh. Can you believe it? I survived more than twenty Math subjects and more than thirty professors. Whew, that was a lot!
But though the thought of getting my diploma really appeals, I am still double-hearted. For one, I am not sure if I’m ready for what’s ahead already and two, there’s just so much that I am going to miss.
Like waking up to a text message from one of my blockmates saying “Mheems, I was asleep when Ma’am _____ was discussing. What’s our assignment again? :p” or going to school and seeing all of them so sabog after a night of cramming. Or seeing the joy on our faces when the words “NO CLASSES” appear on the three gates of our school.

Hi, Candy girls!
Don’t you just love this freedom? Sembreak is really the best time to relax and unwind because it reminds you of the things you did last semester that brought you to your much deserved short vacation. Love it!
Anyway, I celebrated my birthday last October 3 and finally, I’m 20 years old. Bye teen years, hello, um, -ty years. Haha! So, I was supposed to post this list of twenty in my personal blog, unfortunately I had major exams during my birthday week that I actually forgot to post this. But because it’s Sembreak and I have all the time in the world, let’s do this!
Twenty Random Things I Learned In My Twenty Years Of Existence
- A baby’s smile is the best de-stresser.
- Pre school teachers are still the best!
- No amount of advice can heal a broken heart. (emo :p)
- Like what I said in one of Sandra’s entries, College friends know who you are but your high school friends know why.
- Families aren’t just biological
