I always get this from my teachers every first day of school.

Teacher: Name please.
Me: Mia Enriquez
Teacher: Full name, hija.
Me: Full name na po yan.
Teacher: Mia lang?
Me: Wala na pong ibang binigay mommy ko eh.

Haha! Yes, my real name is simply Mia. My mom gave me that name just because. Just because. Well, my siblings’ names have stories. My brothers’ names are from my parents’ initials and my sister’s name is her birthday month. And my name? Well, let’s ask my mom.

Me: Ma, bakit Mia pangalan ko?
Mom: Bakit, ayaw mo?

My Block Rocks!

My sister once said that the people that I will meet in college will be the people that will stay beside me forever. I’m not really sure if she said that because we just watched Sydney White and the Seven Dorks or because she felt that I needed those words so much after getting myself into a really huge fight with my high school friends. But there’s one thing that I am sure of, that the people that I run to now when I have problems will be the same people that I will run to after fifty years (or more… and by that time, I can’t run anymore so I’d probably just walk. Ha-ha!)

Meet my blockmates.
My blockmates, my friends

Just like any other sections, there are smaller groups within the block but, that doesn’t divide us. It only makes us better. One group’s strength complements the other group’s weakness and vice versa. There’s just so much love going on that it leaves no room for insecurity and hatred. And though sometimes, we disagree on some issues, at the end of the day, we’ll just say “Bakit nga ba tayo nag-away?” and then hug each other (major Aww! Moments)

Right now, you’re probably wondering as to why I never include pictures of myself whenever I blog (only once, when I couldn’t find any picture that will match the entry :p).

Well, wonder no more because I’m going to give you the reasons now.

There are just two and the first one is because I think I already have a trauma, thanks to my beloved classmates. They just love taking pictures of me during my not-so-photo-op moments and when I see the results, BAM! I’d be like, “please delete it na!” My not –so-photo-op moments include scenes that are pretty normal but produce highly unlikable pictures such as when my professors bore me to death (and I do hope, they won’t read this) or when my classmates crack super corny jokes (that still make me laugh) or when the connection of the school’s computer just wouldn’t cooperate (Okay, my school will kick me out now, haha!)

March 21, 2003
After waiting for a year, the couple finally had a baby. A cute baby boy was born. He was named after his two grandfathers, Enrique and Miguel, thus, the name given to him was Enrique Miguel. But because the pretty cousin *cough, cough* found the name boring, she gave him a nickname. She called him Quiel.

March 21, 2004
Quiel celebrated his first birthday. And even though his grandmother had nine other grandsons before him, the happiness that was on lola Nelly’s face was indescribable. Quiel gave her so much happiness; you can say that he was her favorite apo.

Letters to Daddy

Yesterday, I cleaned up my room. I emptied my desk, said goodbye to last year’s scratch papers (Crissy, they’re all yours! Haha!), and got myself a new set of highlighters and colored pens in preparation for the coming school year. I practically threw everything that’s unnecessary for the coming school year away. Except for this bedazzled box that I made when I was still in my junior year in high school. It was kind of dusty already because the last time I opened it was about two years ago.

After minutes of staring at the box, I finally gathered the courage to open it up and see what’s inside. Papers—lots of them. There were medals, certificates of recognitions and pictures of me in different costumes. I got teary-eyed. Memories came rushing back to me (I know, that was so incredibly cheesy) and I couldn’t help but cry.
