Day in the Life of Candy
Author Archive
Just recently I found out that I have FOX on my cable network, and my have I been away from my computer and stuck like rice on the telly with Bones, The Simpsons, NCIS, Flash Forward, and Lie To Me marathons.
It’s not a healthy pastime but I do got some things out of it! Especially from my now favorite show, Lie To Me.

Basically, the show is about The Lightman Group, a group of people that utilizes microexpression to solve crimes. Microexpression is basically one half of a second (or less) of an expression made by a person, which gives out some or all of the clues to conclude that one is lying or not.
After watching an entire afternoon of Tim Roth’s serious swagger and englishness, I just had to google the science behind it and found this: http://www.cio.com/article/facial-expressions-test. It’s a test to see if you are one of the lucky one eighth percentile of the world that possesses the ability to call a bluff ( May or may not be in a game of cards).
Just goes to show, liars will always have their pants on fire.

The Fall of Topshop?
June 26, 2010 at 4:52 pmAs Mango goes on it’s rampage-eqsue sale and I stare at my empty wallet (complete with the escaping butterfly from the flap), I looked up into a sign for me to start working my butt off to get enough money for another shopping spree.
Forever21.
Opening July 2.
Did you watch Sex and The City 2? Remember Samantha Jones’ reaction when she saw Charlotte’s nanny? That was exactly me (Nix the enormous amount of estrogen pills).
The all original unstained and most importantly, extremely affordable Forever21. Another great thing, Rumor has it that 38 dressing rooms are there for your movie montage moments with you and your friends.
So what am I trying to put off here?
Well, with items that are in the range of 120 Php to 1,800 Php, I think we’d be seeing walking F21 models due to how it’s fashion is going to spread like wildfire. Goodbye Topshop head to toe-ers!
Are YOU unbelievably excited for this new addition?
Let me hear about it and we can share pictures of the clothes we’ve been eyeing in its website!
Forever (well, actually no.) 18,
Jaz R

Impressions are important.
No, not stand up comic impressions.
I meant the “Howdy! I’m Woody!” type of impression.
So I got a lot of people asking me how the first few days of college was doing and all I got to say was it was incredibly hot. Intense heat. I got so used to having air conditioned classrooms that I forgot how being in the real Philippine environment felt like.
Another thing is having to go to school either extremely early or late. It’s either 6:30 or 1:30 in the afternoon. It’s sometimes wonderful but having to pray for a parking space does get a little bit nerve wrecking. Especially if you really need to get to your next class.
Oh and don’t get me started on having to be demure around the real guys at class. Coming from an all-girl school and being singe since birth doesn’t put out any reinforcement whatsoever. So yes, being demure.
*Sigh*
Although there are fabulous things happening as well.
I do have the best literature professor.
You do know how it’s the first day and teachers can come in like they are entering their jail cell. Well, my professor is quite.. different, to say the least.
So this is how he entered:
It started with a redheaded girl coming in. “Alright, so your teacher is in Africa, and well, he was supposed to be here yesterday but something happened, they found his body in the middle of the jungle yadda yadda..”
By this time, I had my chinky little eyes go as far and wide as they could go.
Then suddenly there’s this guy dressed up like a Filipino version of Indiana Jones that comes barging in the classroom making my eyes go even wider.
So yes, this is how teachers MUST come in to get the attention of their students. And this is one of the inspiring reasons for me to get up early in the morning to go and get my literature on!
The other reason, well, let’s just say it’s a tall, medium toned, and very handsome reason.
And if reason number two is not available at the moment, it’s the breaks I get to have my freak on with my new friends.
Hope you candy girls out there are having a great opening week!
La La La Love,
Jaz R.

Do you like color?
Do you have a certain pull to tie-dye?
Do you have nails?
If you said “AWWW YES I DO” to any of these statements then you should check out this video posted below!

When I was a kid born of the age of no Internet and good computer games other than the epic pixelated Mario, I had this book of nail art. I’m not really the kikay type but I do enjoy art and this is not an exception.
So I would like to share you this technique called “water marbling.” Water marbling is basically dipping tons of nail polish to a cup of warm water until your desired shade, then you could dip your finger and voila! you have a nail that looks crazy enough to be a candy in Willy’s factory and all the other girls would totally call you the guru of all nail art!
I just had to share this because this is for all those college freshman out there (like me) who have just experienced the freedom of having painted nails nix the scolding of your school principal!
So here are some really good tips that I learned after a million failed attempts and a lot of bottles of nail polish
- Use a plastic cup with a diameter that isn’t so wide as to not waste so much nail polish and to get that concentrated color.
- Use warm water rather than cold water, because cold water can “freeze” the polish and that could not transfer well.
- Use a lot of wild colors
- Do not smudge it too much with a toothpick!
- Do not use your mothers mug for this.
- Do have a lot of acetone on hand to remove nail polish that would get on your fingers. ( And this will happen all the time!)
- Do have fun and don’t give up! The results are amazing!

Why I Should’ve Been Born A Dude
June 1, 2010 at 7:12 pmIs it just me that I think that whenever I go to another country and I go around the streets and towns, I always think about how this country is such a great date place!
You know what I’m talking about! There’s just so many places where you can imagine you and your cute beau having good quality activities in a breathtaking setting on a fraction of a cost it does here in Manila! For example ( Yes, I have imagined this in my head tons of times, forgive the cheesyness that you are about to feast our eyes on): You can totally just walk around Central Park with a big cookie your going to share or journey through the quaint old houses in Beijing on a two seater bike, Gondola rides in Spain (Or Vegas; whatever floats your boat. Pun totally intended. ) or simply going to Disneyland together.
So this is what my friend R (Yes, his real birth name is R.) was lamenting to me about the other day. His girlfriend’s ( and my close buddy) birthday is coming up and he was asking me for suggestions on what they can do for a date or a great day out.
I was just about to say how I’m sad that they can’t fly off to New York to go to see a Broadway show there but then it hit me! You don’t need to catch a show there when you have Legally Blonde here in the Metro! So I told him, “Hey, go catch a play after dinner!” And it just so happens she’s a theater monster!
Unfortunately, it’s going to show at around August so he said that date will be reserved for that specific purpose but for now, he needed another idea. Then I remembered the fantastic foods the French people have that she would adore and I realized – Oh. My. Goodness!
In Sofitel they offer a wide array of the most fabulous patisserie I have ever seen. The fantastic part is, when the clock strikes 9, you can get these mouth drooling cakes and chocolates made by, I presume, really really French pâtissier, in just half the price. “Your gal will totally love you for them whilst you sip and eat away with the view of the Manila Bay!” is what I told him. But then, he gave her cake last year and decided to do something more. He wanted something memorable and he wanted to give her something at the same time.
Memorable moment.
Gift.
Memorable moment.
Gift.
OH. Lordy Lord. That only means one thing. And it beats going to Disneyland and giving her a souvenir (cause you’ll be going to the poor house after that). Color Me Mine.
You could have quality time in painting plates, mugs, vases or whatever! And whatever labor you made out of love, she gets to keep as a present! It was the perfect date and R loved it.
I was completely taken by this assignment and i was shocked at how many great things you can do here in the Metro. All I needed was to look at my homeland as a foreigner and BOOM! You got yourself date places everywhere! Even in Chinatown! You don’t like bar hopping? What about temple hopping! Craving for Disneyland? Go Amusement park hopping at EK and StarCity ( Though you prolly need to eat a stick of butter to get enough calories pumping through your body to last the day)
But then this also goes to show three things.
One, You don’t need to spend a lot for your hubby, just a lot of time and love together.
Two, Limited to going to Malls as great date places here in the Philippines? Well, you’re not thinking hard enough. ( That or you don’t have enough girl friends or gay friends to help you out)
And last but not the least, I should’ve been a born as a dude so I can take my girl out to tons of exceptional dates.
