To Review or Not To Review
May 5, 2012 at 10:08 amTags: college, high school, review classes, seniors
That is the question! To the incoming high school seniors out there, listen up; I know most of you are torn between taking CET reviews or not, so I’ll lay down what I’ve learned from last year’s experience.
When I was an incoming senior, most of the fresh graduates and alumni of my highschool told me that review classes are useless. I kind of took their advice and took it easy on my reviews. I just enrolled in school, and I learned a lot, but I guess our materials didn’t suffice unlike other review centers with mock ACET, DLSUCET, UPCAT and more. I knew I had to work harder, so I borrowed a review center’s kits from my friend and used it.
A week before my ACET, I studied every free time I had with the materials I got from school and the review kit. I had to refresh my memory with past lessons in between juggling deadlines from projects and my finals coming up. It hit me that I had to focus more, and so I did. A few months later, I found out I got in my first choice, BS Health Sciences (an honor’s program); and just a few weeks ago, I confirmed my slot in Ateneo.
I also took DLSUCET, which was actually my first choice for my college, but sadly I didn’t land the course I wanted because I guess I took the test for granted unlike Ateneo’s. I was completely devastated at first, but a greater opportunity opened for me. You see, most people would say that you don’t have to review for these tests, but I absolutely disagree. How can you seriously rely on your brain with around four year’s worth of lessons without refreshing it? It takes a huge amount of luck and courage to do that.
My point is… don’t play it safe with college entrance tests. I suggest that you take review classes, but make sure you go beyond that. You may attend review classes, but do you really listen? You may have all the materials you’ll need, but are you really reviewing them? Study every free time you have a month before your CETs, and don’t cram a few days before. Also, don’t just aim in getting in the college you want—aim for your FIRST CHOICE in your course because not getting it may lead you to a different path. Remember, luck is not always on your side, trust me.
You have nothing to lose when you work hard for your entrance tests, but your entire world may come crashing down when you find out you didn’t get in your dream school.

Last April 18, I was invited (thanks to Candy!) to an Oishi event held in Chef Jessie. Of course, I really had to go becauseI love Oishi! I mean, does not love Smart C+ (MY FAVORITE), Pillows and more, right?
We got there a little late, but I really am glad we were still able to catch up. I am not exaggerating, but every 5 minutes, there’s a wave of new Oishi products given out to EVERYONE.
Tim Yap decided to drop by the event to check out the new Oishi endorser. I, of course, did not pass that opportunity to take a picture with him.
Before the endorser was revealed, he was telling everyone his top O. Wow! moments of his life. Right then and there, I knew it had to be…
ELMO MAGALONA!
Isn’t he just so dreamy? Girls, these pictures are for you.
I had to wait for his interviews to be finished to be able to take a picture of him, but at least it’s not a swarm of girls battling for his attention! After 2 years (YES, TWO) of wanting to meet him, my dream has been fulfilled at last.
Thank you, Candy and Oishi for this opportunity again! I love being a Candy Girl, and so does my friend Amanda.
<3,
Erika

- Get busy – Stop bumming around! What happens on that island should stay on that island and just leave them all to your memories. Go around your nearest mall and look for part-time jobs. Some of my friends are working as review assistants in nearby review centers for the CETs and others are helping out in small family businesses.
- Make new memories – Who said you couldn’t have fun in the city too? Have a G.N.O. with your best friends, and make more friends! Arrange chill nights in your neighborhood or a sleep over with your childhood friends.
- Relieve experiences – Meet up with all the friends you’ve met from that place… back home. Have lunch and catch up with them with the time you were away from each other, but I bet most of you will see each other by college anyway.
- Cleanse –From all those food bellies you guys have gotten, cleanse and start eating healthy! Go back to your normal summer routine to gain your bikini body back. Work hard (but don’t stress yourself) in becoming fit to embrace that new school year up ahead.
- Save – For one to move on from all those memories, one must start saving for better ones. Don’t splurge that much this summer and find ways to earn! Save, save, and save for a better and all out vacation for you an your friends.

{ New & affordable nail polish from Etude House. When I saw the teal polish, I squealed. When I tried it and saw that it was matte, I felt like I won the lottery }Posted in Etcetera | No Comments »
