Day in the Life of Candy
Author Archive
You see how everything is perfectly mapped out on our mini mag and how clean and nicely clad we all look in our photos. But what exactly happened during the shoots, the laughs, and all that jazz?
- Fan girls happened.
It’s not everyday that you get to have a decent conversation with famous teen stars—even if the topic is limited to baking cookies and Wii. We were all trying to keep our cool, putting on a very calm façade, but deep inside we all were melting. We love Matt. He’s cute. We love Melissa too, but no, not in a romantic way. Haha! They’re both so nice! So it was pretty obvious that we inevitably found ourselves grabbing a photo opportunity (and/or autographs).

John Mayer Live in LA!!!
No. I wasn’t actually there but I experienced the closest thing to that. I’ve been a fan of John (we’re on first name basis! Haha) since his first album Room For Squares and finally after almost 2 years of waiting since Continuum came out, I finally have a chance to hear his music again but with an added bonus: it’s a live recording and is available on DVD!
As soon as I heard about this upcoming release I’ve been on constant alert as to how I am going to get my hands on a copy. It’s not enough that I download it on iTunes but I need to have an actual copy of the CD and DVD. It’s kind of like a throwback to those times when people collect those vinyl records. If there was a vinyl copy of John Mayer’s albums, I’d gladly save my money to buy them (but I don’t know if I can afford or find an old record player).

3 Things I Absolutely Love About Teaching
September 26, 2008 at 7:48 pmTags: children, Kids, school, teaching
- That sense of authority and responsibility.
What if all of a sudden you realize that you hold the power to make or break someone, will you take on the responsibility, or just completely ignore it? I know some people who are afraid to teach kids because they fear they might not be able to deliver effectively; and, well, some just simply dislike kids (I respect that of course!) I on the other hand love the idea of being able to make even just a tiny bit of difference in a child’s life. It’s my way to somehow contribute to society since I fear any dealings whatsoever with mathematics. Nonetheless, it’s hard work, ha. Teaching is the noblest of jobs and it requires both skill and passion! Anyone can be a teacher, but only a few can truly make a difference.
- The witty lines encounter
“My mom’s afraid of snakes, she’s so crazy!” A four year old said that. I found it very funny. There are lots more charming ones, exaggerated stories, wild imaginations, or forthright interrogations like “Teacher, why do you wear the same shoes all the time?” Ouch. “Because these are comfy,” I said. Shame. The next day, I wore a different pair! Haha! - Being around cute kids
I do not wish to seem biased, but let’s admit it, 1: cute kids make our day; 2: not all kids are cute. Conclusion: Therefore, not all kids make our day. But as a teacher, I am required to love each one equally even if some kids throw the most annoying tantrums. But that’s beside the point. Despite the occurrence of such unfortunate event, there exist sweet angels that make this world a better place to live in. Here’s a video of one of the kids I absolutely love talking to: Mateo! He’s very charming and very smart! The cutest thing!
Mateo talks about his passion, Dinosaurs.
There’s a lot more to teaching, actually. Be not limited by my superficial mind. (Only superficial at the moment due to an overwhelming encounter with Mateo). There is, of course, the fact that I get to do what I enjoy doing the most—a preparation to motherhood? Which, by the way, let me emphasize, will not happen any time soon. And a dream of putting up my own preschool to help provide children quality education and to ensure that they be given the best school time of their lives. I. Thank. You. Bow. (Waves and blows a kiss!)
P.S. If you know anyone from the South in need of a tutor, let me know. I am known for giving 100% in everything I do! Haha! Shameless plug!

The Practicum Experience, Pre-School Style!
September 9, 2008 at 9:13 pmTags: Kids, Preschool, Special Education, Teacher
I have officially started my practicum duties as assistant preschool teacher and I’m very ecstatic. I met with the kids, played with them, catered to some accidents such as pooing inside the pants. That was a challenge I was not ready to take on, thank God one of the Ates were there to take over. I have 8 students who are really diverse, all with unique abilities and personalities. And in my attempt to recall their names, here are my initial impressions toward my beloved little geniuses:
Jack Jack: Physically impaired but that’s not stopping him from participating in class activities and discussions. His smile and laughter make my heart melt.
Kit Kit: Diagnosed with Downs Syndrome, Kit Kit is one of the students whom I have felt an attachment with. He may not be able to speak clearly, but wow, his talent in art activities is incredible.
Ianna: Ah! The only girl in the class, very sweet and very smart. She’s a pretty one too, so it’s no doubt, most of the kiddos in her class love being friends with her.

Dis Budyu Is Da Boms—Check it Out!
September 1, 2008 at 9:54 amTags: Anchorman, Filipino Accent, Funny, Ron Burgundy, Terry Maddox, Touchblue
Before you start to think I’m going crazy, let me introduce Terry Maddox (not his real name, by the way!) But, not to worry, I did my research, I found out his name is Jaymar Cabebe, currently residing in California. He’s obviously Filipino. (What is this obsession with talented, undiscovered YouTube Filipino people??)
I bet all of you are like “What in the world is she talking about?” Well, like I said, Terry Maddox is what I am talking about! I spotted him on YouTube (Thank you Cyrus for showing the video to me) and I swear, his videos made me laugh so hard I could no longer breathe. Or maybe that’s just me cos’ I’m mababaw? But, I promise, this will give you a good laugh! Here are some of his videos promoting the website touchblue.net, see for yourself:
