This Great Opportunity

I’ve learned from so many things that life is what we make it. We make decisions, and eventually reap whatever fruit comes out of it. I never had any professional (or scholastic) writing experience, no lessons, nothing to make me seem as though writing is truly for me, no accolades. Nobody even knew I loved writing. I took a chance when someone told me about this wonderful opportunity to write for Candy Magazine. To be honest I was hesitant at first, I was never the type to go after the things that I want. Nonetheless, I gave it a shot.

It was one of the best decisions I made.

Life became my own from there. I met great people… (COC 8, Candy Editors, and a whole lot more!)

I’ve experienced new things – great things… (Shoots, interviews, articles, food tastings, etc.)

Happy 100th Day of School!

On November 19, the Bridge School celebrated their 100th day of school! Purpose? This event allows students to experience 100 as an actual quantity rather than just as “a really big number.” They begin the countdown at the start of school and wait until the days get to a hundred, then they’ll be tasked to make a project that sort of celebrates the one hundredness of one hundred, like some of the students at The Bridge made a necklace with 100 beads, something out of 100 popsicle sticks, some made a 100 T-shirt, and some stuck 100 stickers on a nice colourful paper. No pressure, like what I said earlier, 100 must be introduced as a fun quantifying experience not as a dragging “really big” number.

Aside from the projects, all the kids wore red, they made their own 100th day crowns, and they also posted 100 things they like and are thankful for. Kids and teachers also contributed 100 pesos for the 100 treats and the feast. It’s actually one of the coolest things I’ve experienced.

Here is the 100th day Mrs. Fields cookie treat of Teacher Katrina for the kids.

The kids can’t wait to gobble up their special hundredth day treat – mocha cake or cookie cake??

I am the Unlucky One

I know, what’s with the negativity right? Well, I could use all the means of release I could get, otherwise, I am going to be so sad and angry! So, here’s the gist, I LOST $400, I had to give it up otherwise my life could be at stake. Let’s leave it at that. You know when things like that happen because of wrong-place-wrong-time events, you end up crumbling and pondering on what could’ve been had you been someplace else. I’m sure you’ve felt this at some point in your life—that feeling of getting ripped off. Well, it just made me realize very important things… the hard way:

  1. Value life. DO GOOD. Invest for good outcomes. What you sow is what you reap, so they say. Make it a life principle.
  2. Money is not everything. It comes and it goes, don’t let it get the best of you.
  3. Don’t dwell on your losses but your gains. Sure, you may have lost $400 dollars and it may have been taken by corrupt cops (a clue! a clue! haha!), but hey, you have your whole life ahead of you, you can find a great job, be a part of a big company, make millions, unlike THEM who have reached their peak and progression is no longer! But, then again, I wish that they’d come to a state of epiphany and realize that what they do is wrong.
  4. Pray. Pray. Pray. The only way up is when you get down on your knees and pray. There’s really nothing else left to do after a huge blow. :)

…and all these realizations are worth about P20,000! Raar! Haha!

Nah, I’m over it. It will be replaced by bigger and better things. Let this be an encouragement to everyone who got ripped off in the past, and those who are yet to face such unfortunate event (I hope I can say it wont happen ever, but… it’s an inevitable part of life. Be prepared! Be informed about things!) Be strong, Candy girl! Every day is sweeter than the day before. I learned a valuable lesson, and this encounter changed my life! For real! Maybe I’m not so unlucky after all, right? :)

I am blessed,
Crissy

Remember many years back when we were in preschool (or gradeschool, or even highschool!), we had programs that required us to wear different national costumes? I could not even remember the last time i had to wear an unusual attire for the “UN Celebration.” If you’ve read some of my blogs, you may know full well that I am a pre-school teacher. Well, soon to be (I’m keeping my fingers crossed) and yesterday was the first ever school program that i had with the kids of KC Preschool. F.Y.I: I choreographed the older kids’ presentation together with Teacher Mae, my cooperative teacher. Although I am not the best dancer, my movements aren’t at par with the Pussycat Dolls. Okay na ako sa kids! It’s my comfort zone, my humiliation avoidance center.

By the time I got to school that morning, I entered the classroom, and saw all these kids wearing different costumes that are so beautiful. I dressed as a “cowgirl,” (I know, ang labo, I was channeling Daisy Duke), so I felt so under dressed. And then I found out my two practicum-mates wore the same attire, what a relief! Anyway, I felt so proud of the kids, I felt like they were my own, I can’t even help but cry (just a little) when I saw them with their parents because I remembered how my mom used to make my costumes back in the day, how she would help me practice my songs and some steps, how she’d put on my make up, and my dad who’d be the one standing taking all the photos during the presentation.

Celebrating Teachers Day

Yesterday I attended an event at the Music Hall in SM Mall of Asia. It was a celebration dedicated to our beloved teachers. The event was called “Teacher ko, idol ko!” We were trying to set a record or something. According to my friend Tricia, The banner is set to break China’s current record for the longest ‘Thank You’ banner for teachers at 100 meters unfolded at Fuyang Square. Interesting right? I think we broke it! Guinness World Records is a pretty big deal!

There were lots of schools involved, a lot of students attended, and there were a few personalities/celebrities present as well, like TJ something (I’m sorry, I know him as “Gulong ng Palad” guy) and Mary Lane from PBB. Apparently, I’m so bad with names!
