The Sunday Night Feeling

I love the Stylish Wanderer!

She’s 14. Fourteen. She wears everything from designer heels to vintage dresses to shiny American Apparel disco pants. When I was that age, I was still rocking the whole baby tee/flared jeans/chunky rubber shoes/glitter hair look. Don’t ask.
On a totally different note:
“Me? I’m all over the place. I don’t know it’s just, like you know that feeling you get on a Sunday? Where you just had the whole day to yourself and it’s been great, and then you remember you have to go to school the next day, and it ruins the rest of the night. I have to go home tomorrow, and so I’ve got that feeling. It’s like Sunday night.” —Peyton, One Tree Hill
I have to agree with P. Sawyer. I hate that Sunday night feeling. You can’t escape it. At around 7 to 8pm, it starts to creep up on you—the feeling that there wasn’t enough time to do everything you wanted or needed to do this weekend. To top it all off, you suddenly realize that you’re going to have to get up early, too. After all, it’s Monday. Almost everyone wakes up on the wrong side of bed. That being said..
Yay for no classes tomorrow!
Enjoy your extended weekend, Candy Girls!

There are so many things I want to say about Valentine’s Day—in fact, I’m afraid this whole entry might turn into a bunch of tittle-tattle if I indulge myself. So instead, I thought of leaving it to the pros. After all, there’s a reason why these movie lines have stuck with us after all these years, right?
I think it’s safe to say these quotes sum up everything good about Valentine’s Day and give you one of the best feelings in the world: that giddy, warm, tingly feeling you get when something (a song, a picture, a memory, or in this case, a line from a movie) hits you in a such a special way that makes you feel it was made for you, just you. You feel it all over your body and you never ever want to lose it. These movie quotes are old and new, familiar and unfamiliar, but I’m pretty sure they’ll “hit” you all the same.
“How lucky I am to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” —Annie
“If I tell you I love you, can I keep you forever?” —Casper
“I would rather have had one breath of her hair, one kiss from her mouth, one touch of her hand, than eternity without it.” —City of Angels
“It doesn’t matter if the guy is perfect or the girl is perfect, as long as they are perfect for each other.” —Good Will Hunting
“Sometimes in life, there really are bonds formed that can never be broken. Sometimes you really can find that one person who will stand by you no matter what. Maybe you’ll find it in a spouse and celebrate it with your dream wedding, but there’s also the chance that the one person you can count on for a lifetime, the one person who knows you sometimes better than you know yourself, is the same person who’s been standing beside you all along.” —Bride Wars
“The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.” —Moulin Rouge
“Remember, I’m just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her.” —Notting Hill
“I am someone else when I’m with you, someone more like myself.” —Original Sin
“In these dreams I’ve loved you so, that by now I think I know what it’s like to be loved by you. I will love being loved by you.” —The King and I
“I love that you get cold when it’s 71 degrees out. I love that it takes you an hour and a half to order a sandwich. I love that you get a little crinkle in your nose when you’re looking at me like I’m nuts. I love that after I spend day with you, I can still smell your perfume on my clothes. And I love that you are the last person I want to talk to before I go to sleep at night. And it’s not because I’m lonely, and it’s not because it’s New Year’s Eve. I came here tonight because when you realize you want to spend the rest of your life with somebody, you want the rest of your life to start as soon as possible.” —When Harry Met Sally
“I guarantee there’ll be tough times. I guarantee that at some time, one or both of us is gonna want to get out of this thing. But I also guarantee that if I don’t ask you to be mine, I’ll regret it for the rest of my life, because I know, in my heart, you’re the only one for me.” —Runaway Bride
“Take love, multiply it by infinity and take it to the depths of forever, and you still have only a glimpse of how I feel for you.” —Meet Joe Black
“You are what I never knew I always wanted.” —Fools Rush In
“If you love someone you say it, you say it right then, out loud. Otherwise the moment just… passes you by.” —My Best Friend’s Wedding
“Don’t say we aren’t right for each other. The way I see it is we aren’t right for anyone else.” —The Cutting Edge
“Sometimes I wish I had never met you. Because then I could go to sleep at night not knowing there was someone like you out there.” —Good Will Hunting
“If you’re not willing to sound stupid, then you’re not worthy of falling in love.” —A Lot Like Love
“You know, that moment when you kiss someone and everything around you becomes hazy. And the only thing in focus is you and that person. And you realize that that person is the only person that you’re supposed to kiss for the rest of your life. And for one moment you get this gift. And you want to laugh and you want to cry because you feel so lucky that you found it and so scared that it will go away all at the same time.” —Never Been Kissed
“I love you without knowing how, why, or even from where.” —Patch Adams
“You complete me.” —Jerry Maguire
No matter what your opinion of Valentine’s Day is – underrated, overrated, Single-Awareness Day, too commercialized, corporate money-making scheme, something only lovesick couples celebrate, a sad excuse for torpe people to finally show some affection, the best day of the year – everyone deserves to feel loved on that special day.
Don’t forget to spread the love tomorrow! (And every other day of the year, for that matter.)
Wishing you bouquets of roses, boxes of chocolates, and that warm kilig feeling,
Cre

Red Carpet Glee
February 5, 2010 at 2:53 pmTags: awards, awards night, Fashion, Glee, lea michele, rachel berry
SAG Awards, Golden Globes, People’s Choice Awards, and the Grammys—things we can officially tick off from the Major Awards Shows of 2010 list (Academy Awards, here we come!). Personally, I think half the fun of watching these shows is seeing the celebrities walk down the red carpet at the pre-show ceremonies. It’s always really fun to scrutinize every single gown and dress on that carpet, whether you end up totally hating or falling in love with it. I’ve also found that the pre-show fashion rituals are best shared with your girlfriends—even if it is just over the phone! Sorry boys, it’s a girl thing.
An actress who, for me, passed her first red carpet experiences with flying colors is Glee‘s Lea Michele. Who would have known that little goody two-shoes Rachel Berry could work a red carpet that well? Definitely an upgrade from the pastel cardigans, argyle-print sweaters, knee-high socks and penny loafers she wears on the show!
Click on these links for Lea’s looks:
Looking like a modern day princess at the Golden Globe Awards
Working the red hot look at the People’s Choice Awards
I think she looked like an absolute dream at the SAG Awards
Nothing beats her Grammy Awards dress! My personal favorite: I. LOVE. THIS. DRESS.
You know who I’m going to look out for at the next red carpet event
I can’t wait!

Frogs really, really, REALLY scare me. Hey, it’s called a phobia (read: unreasonable fear) for a reason, okay? But it’s true—I automatically freeze whenever I see one. And just like clockwork, the craziest ideas automatically pop into my mind. “It’s going to chase me down!” or “It’s going to hop all over me!” or “It’s going to eat me!” And while (a) they usually do nothing but stay still and stare at the crazy girl who’s flailing her arms and running away as fast as she can, and (b) I know it isn’t even physically capable of doing all the crazy stuff I just mentioned, things just tend to get a little out of hand whenever your biggest fear latches on.
Fear. The word itself translates to something we try learn to live with yet avoid as much as we can. We associate fear with anything from silly and unreasonable—clowns, cockroaches, the dark—to things that cause more grief and pain, like death and the unknown. The ugly truth is that everyone is afraid of something—even Superman avoided kryptonite like the plague. Looking back, fear has always just always been there in our lives: past, present, future. It’s been somewhat of an annoying, ever present shadow that always held us back a little and stopped us from doing what had to be done on several occasions.
What’s funny is that most people don’t realize is that fear is actually a good thing. Without fear, we would all be too arrogant and reckless for our own good—fear holds us back just enough to tell us to be careful and look before we leap. It also brings us down from our high horse, as fear constantly reminds us that we are human and that there are just some things we cannot do. But the best thing fear does for us is to act as our motivator; our adrenalin shot. It’s our inner demon and cheerleader rolled into one: taunting and scary at first, but encouraging and supportive when it all comes down to it. Fear gives us the push we need to take the extra step, go the extra mile, and just do it.
The wise man says we have nothing to fear but fear itself, but I say that the brave man uses fear itself to overcome it. He sees it like an old friend—one he knows he’s going to see again, and that fact just strengthens their friendship even more. Leaps of faith are always brought on by the unlikeliest suspect: fear of the unknown, fear things might turn out wrong, etc. So the next time something scary comes along, it’s okay. Breathe. Let it really sink in and wash over you until you’re trembling with equal parts fear and excitement. Feel the fear, and do it anyway.

Hmm. On second thought, I don’t think I’m ready for this just yet.

It’s prom season once again! As soon as I saw the Prom Special that comes with this month’s Candy, I started getting really excited for all the girls currently losing sleep (just kidding!) over what dress to wear, which guy to go with, and everything else prom-related. Prom. The word itself seems to promise such an amazing, happy, sparkly night. One of the things I love about prom? The fantasies we make about them along the way! I know I’ve had my fair share:
Prom fantasy # 1: The big satin (and not to mention pink) poofy dress with lace around the edges. Puffed sleeves, hoop skirt, curly ringlets—the works! I was about 7 years old when I came up with this dream prom scenario, and my dream date was a toss-up between John Prats and Prince Eric from The Little Mermaid. The prom would take place in an old castle with horse-drawn carriages lined up out front. Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about “accidentally” leaving one shoe behind. You know, just in case.
Prom fantasy # 2: This is where all preteen-inspired hell broke loose. I wanted to stand out from the crowd, so I hatched several surefire plans to make me the center of attention. I toyed with so many ideas that I eventually lost count! I could go in Filipiniana, with a reworked lace terno with insane butterfly sleeves—surely no one else would think of that! I also thought of feathers (yup, you read that right): in my hair, on my dress, even on my shoes! Wanna know the worst one yet? I came thisclose to going as Marilyn Monroe—wig and fake mole included! I was stuck in that awkward growing up phase. I wanted to stand out so badly I forgot to consider how inappropriate-slash-ridiculous some of my ideas were.
Prom fantasy # 3: Fast forward yet again: I was 13 years old and absolutely hooked on The OC. I took a page from Marissa Cooper’s book and decided I wanted the knee-length white strapless dress with the creamy strand of pearls. I wanted my date to show up hours late and wearing a leather jacket, just like Ryan did. We’d have our own prom in the garden outside the venue, not caring that we were missing out on the food/program/etc. To fully recreate the scene from the series, “Fix You” by Coldplay just has to be playing right then and there, too. Haha!
The funny part? None of these fantasies came true. Not one of those dream scenarios I had memorized by heart eventually played out in real life. I passed on the idea of my pink Little Bo Peep dress, but I went to prom in a simple albeit much nicer dress I spotted on the Oscars red carpet. I did get that tiny bit of flair though—my dress had a looong train. People kept stepping on it though, and I swear I spent half the night getting pulled backward. I didn’t go with an animated Disney character; I went with the guy my mother wanted me to go with. He was my brother’s friend (surprise, surprise). He ended up being the perfect prom date, except for one tiny hiccup: he had a girlfriend at the time. And to make matters worse, the day of my prom was the day of their first monthsary! Yikes, talk about a major booboo. But he was such a gentleman about it that he put me at ease right away. Also, the prom wasn’t at some romantic castle and I didn’t do much dancing with a leather jacket-clad guy, either.
But I guess that’s the whole point of prom fantasies. They get you psyched up for a night you’re never going to forget, no matter how good or bad it turns out. They show you, over a time line, how much you’ve grown and matured. But best of all, they teach you to go for what you want and to not take anything less. So it’s not the exact dream scenarios that matter, it’s how they guide you along the path to the prom you’re actually going to get.
And who knows? It just might be better than all your fantasies combined.
Wishing you a night you’ll always remember,
Cre
