Hitting the Books!
December 28, 2009 at 7:15 am | by Jaz | In Etcetera, Lists |Tags: books, holidays, reading
I remember that when the holidays approaching, everything in school was pushed to fast forward. I remember that after a week of hectic schedules of quizzes and requirements, we had this week of pure mind-numbing days where we didn’t have to do anything. So my friends and I decided to abuse that golden opportunity by exchanging some mind-numbing chic literature! I’ll give you a list of my top 5 must-reads at the end of my story about this book given by my kabarkada, Frankie.
If I have to summarize it, Confessions Of A Wallflower is unconventional. This is a letter-diary style writing of a boy in the awkward, wonderful, and fantastical world of high school. This book was such a breath of fresh air because the protagonist, Charlie, isn’t afraid to write about what he feels and describes his experiences like a child. Not in the googoo gaga way but in the way that you see such innocence that doesn’t happen much nowadays. Young girls trying to dress up like old women and vice versa. It is such a honest book that makes you laugh and wonder a lot. And I thought that I might be having a mind numbing Christmas! If you want a reading experience that is avant garde, I suggest you find this book and take a look. It’s almost a new year and you might want a change!
Anyway, as I promised, here are superb chic lit for you to read through the break. Oh my, I kind of sounded like a cruel teacher back there. Don’t worry you are not graded but I do grade these books an A+.
- Meagan Meade’s Guide To The McGowan Boys by Kate Brian
- 24 girls in 7 days by Alex Bradley
- Summer Boys by Hailey Abbot
- Wicked by Gregory Maguire
- And finally, Every Boy’s Got One by Meg Cabot
Don’t just bum around the house!
Be like Justin Bieber and sing some holiday songs to your friends instead of the President, or get this list, hit the bookstore, and check them out!
Have a sweet holiday break, Candy Girls!
A chocolate-covered Jaz.

Hello pat!
Crime stories in a holiday theme?
Unfortunately, I haven’t come across such a mix! But I do have some nice crime books for you and the icing on the cake is that it’s available here in the Philippines!
The Lovely Bones by Alice Seboid.
Its a quirky read. It’s coming up to be a movie too

I’ve read Lucky T. It’s so nice. I haven’t read Every Boy’s Got One though. Yeah. Kate Brian (or Kieran Scott in real life) is a fantastic writer. She’s one of my favorite writers. I read almost all of her books except Fake Boyfriend because I can’t find any copy yet. I love her Non Blonde Cheerleader Series. (it’s under Kieran Scott) Kieran Scott’s so nice. She always replies when I tweet something to her. She even advices me if a movie’s nice or not.

KC: Wow, kudos to the extensive loyalty to one author! I’ve always been wanting to have that ONE author to look up to but I’ve always had a hard time to pick from all the genres I like reading.
I completely agree with all your words of praises to Kate Brian aka Kieran Scott! I will try looking for the Non Blonde Cheerleader series and tell you where to get it! I had the EXACT same problem with her book Megan Meade’s Guide To The McGowan Boys. I had been searching for it far and wide and I ended up getting it in a Borders bookstore in NYC. But it was definitely worth it.
Like every other book she wrote!
