Bye, Candy girls!

Yes, bye for now. This will be the last time you’ll read my blog entry*sniff, sniff* in this really cute and adorable corner of candymag.com (Thanks to ate Macy and ate Roch). Thinking about it made me sad at first. But that’s just normal. I guess all the Council members of all the batches felt that too. But then, I realized that this is now the time of the next Council of Cool to show what they have and can offer. And we are sure that we are leaving the coolness factor to a deserving bunch of girls :)

So, instead of just crying (which I came so close to doing, haha), I’ll just share with you some facts about the Council of Cool 8, things that I will miss, things that I like most about them and the things that sets us apart.

  1. The Council of Cool 8 looooves McDonald’s. Every time we’ll have our meeting in the old office, our first stop will always be McDonald’s. When we went around the metro for our food trip, Bea, Sandra and I were looking at all the McDonald’s branches we passed by because we really wanted some crispy fries and hot fudge. Really crispy fries and frosty hot fudge. Crissy, on the other hand was craving for soggy fries. Quoting Crissy, “The soggier, the better!” Haha. I love her! Micah too has her own quirky side. She likes her ice cream melted. So before eating the ice cream, she allows it to melt first. Bet you didn’t know that.
  2. We call all the eds “ate” followed by their names. To us, they are ate Mia, ate Steph, ate Angel, ate Mimi, ate Marla, ate Margaux, ate Jennie, ate Macy, and ate Roch. But, you know what? They told us not to call them as such. During our first photo shoot, ate Mimi told us to call them by their names: no ate, no ma’am and especially no miss (like mizz Mimi, haha!) but we were all so makulit, so, we are really sorry… Ates. Haha!
  3. We also have our favorite cuties :) Of course, there’s AJ and Dino and Sam (we’re all super lucky to meet Dino and Sam) but, our favorite Candy cuties are those who work behind the camera and uhm, the magazine. Our favorite photogs, Kuya Patrick and Kuya Daks and our favorite Candyman writer, Lio Mangubat. Kuya Patrick took our first and last staff picture. Ate Angel even said “Wow, they started with Patrick and ended with Patrick.” He also took the picture of Jess Wilson on the cover of the mini mag (November issue). We all loved it and it’s my favorite cover EVER!

Last Saturday I was finally able to see and bond with my best friend, Diday during her birthday party. My dear high school friends were there to make the party more fun and exciting! When we arrived, the college friends of Didz filled her house already but Pamz, Nikki and I were determined to say hello to Didz, to Tita Loida, and EAT! Yes, in that order. Hehe! We were very hungry! I loved the food, cake, chocolate fondue!  We were kidding Didz that she might have a shocking announcement because of her all-white cake that seemed to be a wedding cake. Haha! She and her guy Qiel have been together for years already. But no surprises for that night, hehe! Except for Qiel’s clever way of linking me to his friend. Haha!

I needed that night to unwind. After weeks of thesis work and being depressed with school stuff, I’m glad I spared myself from all worries for one night. Well, two nights actually, because I watched the Chris Brown and Rihanna concert. Hehe!  Thankfully, I was still able to answer in my exam last Monday despite of being tired and puyat. :)

Anyway, one highlight of the party was when Diday’s friends: Err and sorry I forgot his name, they were roaming around to let everyone drink tequila, I think. Well my friends know this: I hardly drink! I only do so when I’m super depressed or when I just feel like it. Plus, I only adore Baileys. So for me to drink on shot, they had to sales talk me with “Sige na, birthday naman ni Didz.” So fine, I gave in. But thanks to Dina and Che, I pleaded that they take the shots for me the next rounds. Haha! Plus, I wanted to hide from Err and his friend every time they would approach us. Thankfully, they stopped forcing me especially when I felt so itchy already. See, I’m really not comfortable drinking.  Haha!

Thank Che, for saving me from drinking more. Haha!

All night the girls and I kept on telling stories, making plans for reunions and graduation parties and getaways. Meekai said that it‘d be hard to gather the whole batch for a reunion; she added “Yung macocontact natin talaga, yung mga totoong kaibigan natin.” Indeed, these girls are my true, lovable and dearest friends. But there are people from my batch whom I do not know their contact numbers but I still consider them my friends. :)

On November 19, the Bridge School celebrated their 100th day of school! Purpose? This event allows students to experience 100 as an actual quantity rather than just as “a really big number.” They begin the countdown at the start of school and wait until the days get to a hundred, then they’ll be tasked to make a project that sort of celebrates the one hundredness of one hundred, like some of the students at The Bridge made a necklace with 100 beads, something out of 100 popsicle sticks, some made a 100 T-shirt, and some stuck 100 stickers on a nice colourful paper. No pressure, like what I said earlier, 100 must be introduced as a fun quantifying experience not as a dragging “really big” number.

Aside from the projects, all the kids wore red, they made their own 100th day crowns, and they also posted 100 things they like and are thankful for. Kids and teachers also contributed 100 pesos for the 100 treats and the feast. It’s actually one of the coolest things I’ve experienced.

Here is the 100th day Mrs. Fields cookie treat of Teacher Katrina for the kids.

The kids can’t wait to gobble up their special hundredth day treat – mocha cake or cookie cake??

In addition to the birthday celebrants this November, (Ate Jennie, Ate Macy, Ate Marla and Mheems’ mom), three of my loved ones will also turn a year older this month.

My best friend Althea Kristine Eleazar who we fondly call Diday/Didz, will celebrate her birthday on the 16th. Didz is my psychic best friend. Haha! Well, she knows me too well. Recently, I texted her that I was facing a big problem in school, I didn’t tell her I cried all night and that I wanted the world to eat me already. (yes, my problem was that heavy!) But she texted me which started with “Bey! Tama na iyak ha? Pagppray natin na maayos na yan! Love you bey!” I felt better somehow knowing that she is there to support me and pray for me.

Didz, Happy happy birthday! I wish all your wishes would come true. I’m so happy that you found the guy who you love dearly but most importantly, who loves you completely. Plus, he loves us, your friends, too! Thanks for bringing me home one time, Qiel! Hehe! Didz, Thank you so much for everything. I know we haven’t seen each other for a while already, but despite our busy schedules and loads of school work, we both know that we have each other’s back. I miss and love you, Didz. One thing I really appreciate in our friendship is the fact that we are very open to one another and we randomly send thoughtful messages stating how much we value our friendship and how much we miss and love each other. I love you, Diday!

One MOMent

She cares better than any nurse, teaches better than any professor, and loves better than any lover. She wakes me up in the morning, cooks my breakfast and brings me to school every single day without complaining. She hugs me the tightest when I’m in my lowest and cheers the loudest when I’m at my, well, highest. She’s my biggest fan and my biggest critic. She grounds me for missed curfews and gives me “penalties” for breaking rules. But she gives me “incentives” for a job well done.

I cannot say how happy and grateful I am for being your daughter. And though, I am not a perfect daughter, I want you to know that I am doing my best to be an obedient and loving one.

For that and everything in between, I love you Mom. Happy birthday!

My Miracle Mother

Mom, I look at you
and see a walking miracle.
Your unfailing love without limit,
your ability to soothe my every hurt,
the way you are on duty, unselfishly,
every hour, every day,
makes me so grateful
that I am yours, and you are mine.
With open arms and open heart,
with enduring patience and inner strength,
you gave so much for me,
sometimes at your expense.
You are my teacher,
my comforter, my encourager,
appreciating all, forgiving all.
Sometimes I took you for granted, Mom,
but I don’t now, and I never will again.
I know that everything I am today
relates to you and your loving care.
I gaze in wonder
as I watch you being you—
my miracle, my mother.

Mommy’s not so little angel,
Mheems :)

P.S: Happy birthday to ate Macy and ate Marla too!
