Day in the Life of Candy
Archive for November, 2008
Goodbye isn’t always the easiest word to say, and being tasked to be the last COC8 member to blog is quite a daunting task. (Mheems and Bea were so kind as to arrange the last blog sequence, and though I’m moved they put me last, I do feel the pressure. Haha.)
I was wondering how to go about this entry, and initially I thought of writing a serious tear-jerker. But then, I realized that a) we COC8 girls already have, on several occasions, waxed sentimental about our journey—you girls already know how much fun we’ve had, how much we treasure the year that has passed, and all that jazz, and b) we’ve passed the denial and bargaining stages (really, we tried to convince Ate Marla to keep us, hahaha) and are now in the acceptance stage. Haha. I figured, I wanted a farewell that will reflect the eighth batch of Council girls (at least from my perspective!): bright, spirited, and of course, Cool with a capital C. (Hopefully my entry is cool. Haha.)
Eight Photographs
Let’s quickly review the year with some COC8 snapshots:
- We were introduced in the December 2007 issue. And everyone knew the page number by heart! Haha!
- At this council meeting in January, we met Dino Imperial. This was also the meeting when we all brought food and surprised the editors with a mini picnic!

- At our March meeting, we met the Sam Concepcion. Hehe.

- On April 26, we had our first meeting about the minimag. We did our brainstorming and disrupted the peace in Seattle’s Best, Bonifacio High Street.

The Beginning of the End
November 28, 2008 at 10:17 amSchool’s been really hectic lately, but I wouldn’t miss my last time to blog here as Candy Council of Cool 8!
We all don’t want this to be sappy and cheesy but somehow, I think we wouldn’t be able to avoid it. So forgive me if I will get a little carried away. I can’t even put into words how fulfilled and happy I am to be a part of the Candy family. Before, I would be one of those ecstatic teenagers being the first to buy in the magazine stand, dreaming of being in the magazine and now it’s been like a blissful dream come true. Seeing my name published inside the magazine, being recognized by my friends and family is just the cherry on top of my favorite vanilla ice cream.
This experience has taught me my own three R’s:
- Writing. Not exactly an “R” but you know how it goes.
I am not saying that I am a master of ostentatious words because I am not. The way I write is through writing from the heart. Whatever I have given for the Candy magazine is 100% me and forever an embodiment of what I see around me. Candy has taught me that I don’t need to be the perfect writer, I am perfect in my imperfections because I write from somewhere true. - Respect. Inside the halls of our conference room during meeting, we are family. But not because we have fun we get to do anything we want; that’s not exactly the case. As a family, we help each other and learn to view others’ opinions and respect them. We become mature in more ways than we even realize.
- Responsibility. Even before I became COC8, I have always been responsible with everything that I do but Candy has taught me about being responsible in the real world. Yes, I have duties in school and school work to fulfill but it’s not how the real world will manifest. Candy showed me that deadlines have to be met and excuses are not an option. Being responsible will help me succeed in life.

This Great Opportunity
November 27, 2008 at 8:33 pmTags: final words, goodbye, opportunity, thankful
I’ve learned from so many things that life is what we make it. We make decisions, and eventually reap whatever fruit comes out of it. I never had any professional (or scholastic) writing experience, no lessons, nothing to make me seem as though writing is truly for me, no accolades. Nobody even knew I loved writing. I took a chance when someone told me about this wonderful opportunity to write for Candy Magazine. To be honest I was hesitant at first, I was never the type to go after the things that I want. Nonetheless, I gave it a shot.
It was one of the best decisions I made.
Life became my own from there. I met great people… (COC 8, Candy Editors, and a whole lot more!)

I’ve experienced new things – great things… (Shoots, interviews, articles, food tastings, etc.)

Memoirs of a Council of Cool 8 Member
November 26, 2008 at 2:41 pmTags: assignments, candy, council of cool, editors, experiences, favorite, first
Hey, everyone!
Aww, this will be my last entry as a Council of Cool 8 blogger. I actually have a gazillion of things/topics that I want to write about. I want to share my experiences as a COC member but I have decided to focus on two main themes: my first and favorite assignments and experiences. Nevertheless, this will be quite a long entry, so bear with me. Hehe!
First Text Message from Ate Marla
I used to save all the Candy messages into one folder in my old phone, so when I decided to change my phone, I somehow felt bad because I couldn’t transfer the messages saved in the phone memory. Anyway, as far as I can remember the text message went something like this:
“Hi, Farrah! This is Marla from Candy magazine. Congratulations for passing the first screening for the Council of Cool 8. Will you be available on DATE, (I think it was end of September last year) for interview in our office?”
I distinctly remember I screamed when I got this message and kept on jumping in the classroom, while my friends were asking me, “What’s wrong?” Haha! Good thing, our class ended already and only a few heard me shout for joy! Hehe!
First photo shoot for the December 2007 ish
I was so excited for this shoot. I even bought two plain bright tops as instructed by Ate Marla. Haha! Since a lot of the girls were wearing pink already, I decided to wear the yellow top. I was very anxious for this shoot. It was after all, my first time to meet my co-council of cool girls and the other Candy editors. The shoot was fun because we were all trying to remember each other’s names, ages and schools. Haha! I remember, Ate Mimi was also trying to do so. But Ate Marla knew us from Day 1. She memorized each of our names and the facts about us.

My Last Blog Entry
November 25, 2008 at 2:38 pmMic test. Gela here. Is this thing on? =)
Right. Here we go. My last entry. Candy Girls, if there’s one thing I regret, it’s that I have the least number of blog entries among the eight of us. But I won’t spend my last blog entry as a C0C8 girl on regrets (and neither should you. Life’s too short for anyone to regret anything!).
The first thing on my mind are the girls. The Council wasn’t just the Council. They’re special enough to me to be my sisters. Being the youngest in the gang almost automatically marked me as the baby, but I don’t mind—that gives me seven beautiful, brilliant girls as my sisters, and really, that’s not something ordinary.
