Don’t Be Afraid To Open Up

I don’t wish to frighten you or “eww” you out but I just found this anecdote in my life to be fairly unforgettable.
P.S.: This blog is not for the faint hearted.
Last week was sort of dissection week for me, a Biology major. I was so excited to be opening up frogs again because what I did back in second year high school was no fun at all. We were all in groups that I wasn’t even able to get some one-on-one with the frog. Thankfully, when I got into college, we work by pairs and thus, I get some quality time with my frog. Oh, I meant toad. I forgot to mention that everyone in Biology is using toads because of the reality that frogs are now endangered species. Well anyway, let me just say that toads weren’t the last dissection we’ll ever do. I heard we’ll do cats and sharks too.
The first laboratory activity we did was to “skin” the frog because we were in the process of studying the musculatory system.
See, how their muscles look like? In a non-icky way, it actually looks like chicken meat. Harhar. Plus, I must give props to the frogs because they work out well! Can you see those abs of theirs? It’s actually called linea alba in scientific terms.
After the musculatory, we did the digestive system. This part is more explicit compared to the muscles but I’m not going to post over the top pictures.
It’s funny how this dissection process works. It’s definitely easier to see it for myself than you imagine it during biology lecture. Plus, I get more involved with the topic at hand! Haha! And I get to practice my dissecting skills.
I know that this blog entry might have freaked you out a little, but for those girls who are still on there way to explore biology, do not be afraid! At first it may look scary to cut open a toad but in the end, you’ll learn a lot plus you’ll feel this sense of accomplishment. Soon, we’ll be moving to the circulatory and so forth and I can’t wait for explore it. Everything is a challenge but all challenges can be faced as long as I won’t fear it!
I.Don’t. Fear. Toads. And. Cats. And. Sharks.
Okay, I’m scared about the shark part but yeah; must survive!
With much love for the toads,
Rubie

Ooh, Rubie!!! I remember when my bro was in college, he had to dissect a shark too, and it even had a baby inside
Biology is so interesting
Do you plan on studying medicine?
