Have you ever tried performing in a musical production? Or if not, have you even tried watching one? Well, I have never been part of a musical show before but I have watched a lot of them already! Thanks to my Ate who is not only a Blue Repertory member in Ateneo De Manila University but also a lover of the theatrical world.

She has been part of the organization ever since she was in first year. Actually, she started in the performing track at first because applicants are required to join one production so she performed in Sweet Charity as one of the ensemble. I’ve always known my sister to be the “star” type because I think our family has the genes. (Haha!) But the roles she portrays in her production are so different from her real self! Kudos to her because she makes it so believable on stage! :)

Later on, she decided to take on the production track, which is the behind-the-scenes crew who fixes everything for the show. She also became a CORE member, which is sort of like an Executive Council in their organization. But since this year is her last year as a college student, she decided to try out for one final Blue Repertory production that happens on the start of the school year. The musical is titled, Summer of ’42, story and book by Hunter Foster, music & lyrics by David Kirshenbaum, based on the novel & screenplay by Herman Rauche.

My sister played the character of Gloria, a 14-year old eccentric girl. I was able to watch the show yesterday with a couple of my classmates in UP, and we all enjoyed it! The musical was very fun and youthful! I can’t imagine a better script written for those teenagers like me. Well sadly, I’m about to be finished with my teen years. The show had the 1940s fell to it too from the clothes to the props; it took me back through time! Not to mention the intimate theater we were in where the cast used the whole place.

I would like to congratulate my sister for doing such a great job and also to the whole cast who truly gave us nostalgic memories and uncontainable laughter! Continue to do great things with the gift of music! :) I’m not being biased here, but you guys should grab the chance to watch it! The show is still playing until the end of July, so don’t miss it!
