Moments Like These

In our school, it is a yearly tradition for the juniors, sophomores and freshmen to “SURPRISE” the seniors with a farewell-good luck party. It happens early in the year, just before the UP College Admissions Test. Since it such a small school (around 300 citizens in the high school) we are very close. So it really is touching to see your fellow schoolmates pour their hearts out in wishing you the best in college life.
I must admit I was quite the party-pooper. I had a hunch that the “surprise” was going to happen and I told my friends about it. I was right, of course! And when we came back from our Physics class, we found the whole student body crammed into our classroom.
The freshmen gave us cards filled with notes and wishes. The sophomores presented us with a cake, cookies (which were personalized according to our name), candies and other goodies to tuck away. While the juniors began with:
Juniors: You know that ghosts are truly scary, right?
Seniors: Yes. . .
Juniors: You want to know what’s even scarier?
Seniors: What?
Juniors: Losing YOU in our lives.
*insert laughter, “aww’s” and “corny!’s” here*
Then the juniors serenaded us with ‘Someday We’ll Know’ and gave us care packages filled with chocolate and love.
Don’t you love it when moments like these happen just in time? This was a horrendously busy week filled with pressure, stress and work from all sides. With the UPCAT a week away and the quarter exams to follow the day after, we were all ready to implode.
Then out of nowhere: the cavalry arrived! Friends came to support and inspire us to go on. It was both touching and sweet. The whole week balanced itself off.
What are the moments that turn your day around?
