I digress. No matter how corny I may look now to everyone after saying this but I am still the type of girl who believes in fairy tales and happy endings. The hopeless romantic in me still owns a very big piece of my personality and I am not afraid to admit it. I know that it is the 21st generation and things have advanced but in my opinion, the boy next door, the knight and shining armour, the pretty boy, and even the handsome prince can still exist today—in their own unique ways. Maybe I am just too much of a weak link for love stories that I fail to see reality but then again, maybe reality just failed to see those love stories.
Ever since I was a kid, I loved the Disney Classics like Cinderella, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Beauty and the Beast. *whispers* Our little secret—I still watch it again if it replays on TV. And as I grew up, more fairy tale stories were made into movies. Sometimes, the script is just retaliated, revised, and tweaked a little but they all end with “they live happily ever after.” In our generation, it is what you consider as “chick flicks,” “romantic comedy,” “love story,” and many more rephrased genres. Being a movie buff myself, I constantly enjoy watching those types of movies and I will always have my favorites. Well basically, they are countless since I have cried in oh-so-many movies already but there will always be those movies that just touch my heart in so many ways.
Here are some of the movies I have grown to love and will love no matter how many times I watch it. By the way, I can’t exactly tell you the whole synopsis of the movie because you guys have Google to find that out.
Never Been Kissed
I absolutely loved this movie. One of the most feel-good movies I have watched. Maybe, I am just really of fan of Drew Barrymore but she just fits any character in a romantic comedy movie. Oh that baseball scene in the end where Drew waits for his man until the last second and when all hopes were gone, the love of her life suddenly appears and kisses her at the pitcher’s mount.- Ever After
Another Drew Barrymore film and this will always be a classic. A Cinderella story-inspired but with twists of its own. I can’t help but have that smile on my face every time I watch this movie. It makes me wish that princes would exist here in the Philippines. It’s a sweet, tear jerking, poetic, and heart-melting movie that people of ALL ages will enjoy. A quote I will always remember, “It’s not that they lived happily ever after, it’s that they lived.” - A Walk To Remember
Okay, this is a no-brainer. I think there is no girl in the world that didn’t cringe in their seats in the movie house or let out so many tears in an hour and a half. This movie is just the epitome of life changing, unending, selfless love. I can’t even choose a favorite part! But you’d probably be surprised on which part I felt kilig the most. It’s the part where the mean group of Landon created a Photoshop picture of Jamie and when she saw it she was on the verge of breaking down but as SOON as she turned back, Landon was EXACTLY right there to catch her and whispered to her, “This is not about me, this is about you.” Oh wow, I can still feel the vibes into myself as I typed that. - My Girl
Not the Japanese movie okay, the American one. Aww, puppy love! But you know, the movie can get to you. I remember watching this for the first time and I was so young. I absolutely loved it then and when I watched it just a few years back, I didn’t love it any less. It’s still the same sweet movie I’ve watched when I was a kid. Who said kids can’t feel love as well? I think this movie best represents that. It may not be that serious kind of love, but it’s the truest, purest love you’ll see in a long time.
The Lake House
Something new and modern. Besides the fact that I am a Keanu Reeves fan, I simply enjoyed this story. It’s very magical and hopeful. It’s a different kind of love. It’s a love that basically stands the test of time. Well, being apart by two years is pretty much a lot of time. But what’s so beautiful about this movie is when they finally met each other in the end and that even if it was their first time to see each other; it just felt perfect, like they were simply brought by fate to be together. You must watch this movie!
Okay, the list does go on but I know I can’t tell you every single movie but here are some of my favorites. How about you guys, what romantic films do you love so much? To those who haven’t watched any of what I have said, I suggest you go borrow, rent, or buy a copy then find a comfortable spot on your living room couch, heat some popcorn, and bring a pack of tissue (for the crying part), and enjoy some feel good movie!
Oh and a big shout out to my good friend, Brian Catbagan, because he just turned19 today! Yaay! Happy Birthday!
A hopeless romantic all the way,
Rubie
