Diagnosis: Senioritis!
June 16, 2008 at 10:44 pm | by gela | In Etcetera |Tags: first day, high school, school, senior
So I’m going to sit and zip this down really fast, because I’ve already got a ton of things to do, even if it’s only my first day of senior year. Yes girls, you heard me! Unlike the rest of the Council, I started class only today at approximately 0700H (or 7AM). I was so prepped up for classes, after ages of being shut up in the house watching everyone else I know go to school. No worries. I gave my Rusty Lopez black shoes a decent shoeshine (yes! marunong na!) and Gela-fied my notebooks to pass the time.
I’ve lots to tell and I’m so excited about my first day, I’m practically gushing. =)) So without further ado…
0700H-0720H: Flag Ceremony
…Got to school about a quarter to seven. Dumped my super-heavy bag on an empty desk in the classroom and went back down the five flights of stairs to wait for my ‘kada. They weren’t there during flag cerem, and I ended up talking to the new girl in our class. I refuse pointblank to do the calisthenics that are more of a dance number than actual exercises, and so I thought, “Hey, I’ll just talk to the new girl!” So I went right up to her at the back of the line, introduced myself and we hit it off right away.=)
0720H-0820H: Araling Panlipunan-Ekonomiks
…Invited the new girl, Nikki, to sit in the empty chair beside me. My best friend, Jo, sat behind the two of us. I gave Nikki the lowdown on how things are done at IMC. Adviser/AP teacher Ma’am Perla came in and introduced herself in her usual no-nonsense way, which I realized that morning I actually missed during the summer when I wasn’t sitting at attention in her class! Haha!
MamP: Who would like to introduce me for the benefit of our new student?
Me: *the only one who raises her hand*
(Ma’am calls on me…not that there’s much choice)
Me: Nikki, this is Teacher Perla Galera, our adviser for IV-Manganese this school year and also our teacher for AP. She’s nice. Scary, but nice.=)
0820H-0920H: English
…Sub teacher, Ma’am Ghie as Ma’am Cris is out and will be out for a month. Nothing much really happened aside from copying the grading system and course outline and requirements, so Nikki, Jo, and I spent most of the period chatting about common people we know from CSA (where Nikki is from).
0920H-1020H: Physics
…”Crush ng Bayan” Sir Ryx…or as I will now call him, Sir Enrique, oriented us on his class policies and grading systems and a lot of other jazz. Also learned the difference between Master and Expert texters.
Master: can be identified as the texter with one hand on top of the desk and the other under it, holding a phone in the space where you’re supposed to put books in. Also has pre-written text messages that are ready for sending come class time. Expert: can be identified as the texter who pulls out something from her desk every five minutes. EVERY FIVE MINUTES. Can text any message, with no typo errors, just by locating the number 5 on the keypad.
1020H-1040H: Recess
…Went down five floors again to the canteen with Jo and Nikki and bought myself some food. Introduced her to the other members of my ‘kada, Steffi, Stephanie, and Tonette.
1040H-1140H: Filipino
…Finally in the same learning space as our beloved III-Xenon adviser, Sir Pong [SP!]. Nothing’s changed, he’s still lovable, frank, funny and ma-okray…and gives tons of work. Haha. Imagine, we already have a report on Wednesday!
1140H-1240H: TLE
…Reunited with another one of my former advisers, Ma’am Kathy!=D I think I’m finally going to enjoy TLE this quarter. We’ll be working on Home Nursing/Caregiving. I looked at the lesson in the book we’ll be using [not our textbook] and I was all, “But this is like, fundamentals of nursing!” Yes!=D Finally something in this subject I can actually use in the future.
1240H-1320H: Lunch Break
…Checked on the Book Lovers’ Club bulletin board in the third floor before bothering SP in the lib. It’s still alive, and people are actually reading! It gives me such a sense of pride. *sigh* More info on this down down down.=)
1320H-1420H: Math
…As the Council girls know, I’m not a fan of math. Haha. It’s only Mheems! But I’m not a complete dunce at it either. Our teacher drilled us on questions they might ask in the NCAE or college entrance tests, and there was this one problem about a unit circle and a 1×1 square and finding the area [please don't ask me to explain] but the bottom line is, I got it right! Yay!=D
1420H-1520H: MAPEHEP. Monday:PE
…New PE teacher. She’s cool. I already respect her. And she’s got a lot of rad ideas that I think would really spice things up. I think I’m going to like PE this year too. Plus, she’s one of the few who’s agreed to call me GINE instead of my real name, so that bumps her up on my Teachers Who Rock list. When she left, I swiveled around in my seat and told Jo, “Whoa. She’s like the best PE teacher we’ve ever had since Ma’am Viena.” Ma’am Viena was our freshman class’ coadviser/PE teacher. She’s been my PE teacher since I was in Grade2, and then in my first year she resigned. She was quite honestly one of the few PE teachers we feared, respected, learned from and liked. Well, at least I liked her.
1520H-1620H: Mandatory Electives. Monday:Cultural Arts
…Lo and behold, not even fifteen minutes after I mentioned Ma’am Viena’s name, Ma’am Viena in the flesh came into our room. I was shocked. Jo had told me earlier that she was there in the building, but I had no idea she’d be back to TEACH! She and our other teacher, Sir Noly, are handling the Cultural Arts elective class [in my opinion, it shouldn't be called an elective, because it's mandatory and you don't exactly ELECT to take the class. And it's part of your grade. Which isn't what electives are about. !!!]. I was in total shock when she went inside with Sir Noly and she wasn’t leaving and the two of them started discussing. I just had to say, “Ma’am, are you REALLY back, like, to teach?” She just smiled at me in that way she used to do three years ago and said, “Siguro, andito na ako sa harapan nyo eh!”
1620H: Dismissal
…I just had to go and check on my baby one last time before I went home. By baby, I mean the Book Lovers’ Club bulletin board. The BLC [of which I am president] has its own board by the library, which deals with everything about books. SP appointed the officers during summer vacay and to cut a long story short, I made a concept for the content and the design and during the last week of vacation, Jo and I worked on making my notebook sketch of the board a reality. Tonette and Stephanie also helped the first day, but they had their own bulletin board to work on in the fourth floor so Jo and I were left to our own devices. We finished it last Friday, all set for the first month of this school year, and I’m so in love with it, I swear. It’s one of my main sources of inspiration. Forgive me for the lack of seemly modesty.=)
Anyway, it was raining really hard and the double doors which led to the terrace by the board were open, and I was afraid water would pour in as it sometimes does and it might destroy the board. I freaked when realization hit me and I dropped my stuff unceremoniously by the stairs and tugged on the first door to shut it. When I tugged on the second one, however, I wasn’t as lucky. There was this big gust of wind and the next thing I knew, I was ducking back into the hallway with my jacket, blouse, shirt and hair dripping wet. Normally I wouldn’t mind getting wet in the rain [it's common knowledge that I love it!] but I was too busy trying to keep my skirt from flying up and revealing my boxers to the world. It took a few more tries until Jo found me and helped me shut the door. By the time that happened, I looked like I crawled out of a swimming pool, and the newly-shined shoes I mentioned earlier were soaked right through. Aww. I started to grumble about the cold and my wet feet and windblown hair and then I took one last look at the board and immediately shut up. Haha! All I could think of was, aww shucks, it was worth it.=) The things ye must do for what which ye love.
Wow. What a great first day. My energy level was like, sky-high. I just hope the enthusiasm stands for the next ten months. But I can tell it’s going to be different this year. I just know it! And all I can say is, I LOVE BEING A SENIOR!=D
muchlove Candy girls.
Gela out!
