Keep With the Old, Share With the New

Normally, I don’t have a problem about writing my blogs because everyday, I get to experience something different or something totally random. (I know, lucky right?) But this time, it took me a lot of thinking hours to come up with my entry today. Maybe because I happen to have a secret wonderful experience but since it is a secret, I’m not allowed tell… yet. (Wait for a few months or so, maybe I’d share it to all of you. So, keep checking out our blog all right? You never know when I might tell it.) Okay, I probably made all of you curious enough! So, let’s snap out of it already. *snap*snap*
To continue, I ended up pondering about my day yesterday. And I suddenly remembered the conversations I had with the other COC8 members about college. Well, most of the Council is graduating; those who aren’t are I, Sandra and Crissy. I have a long way to go since I’m only an incoming sophomore. Just finishing my freshman year in University of the Philippines, Diliman, I feel extremely grateful for the year that’s passed. Finally, I have experienced what they always called the “real world”. College has definitely changed me. Being in a state U, I have become more responsible with my studies because ladies and gentlemen, no matter how liberating it may seem, you will still feel very much obligated to open up those 1500 pages of your textbook. But besides the academic changes in my life, the best part for me would be the new friends I have gained. I thought that it would be hard finding friends in my school because we are not blocked together but I was wrong. I have found wonderful friends in the 10 months I’ve been studying in UP. What I love about my college friends is that no matter how diverse we all are, coming from different schools (public and private) and all, we have quickly learned to appreciate and understand one another. I can’t even recall a time where we fought because we just are mainly happy people and we’re just happy together! It’s all simply FUN.

My newly found college family.
They’ve accepted the fact that I really find it hard riding a jeep so they (who have cars) are so willing (or maybe not) to drop me off to my next class. They’ve always understood my concern with fashion, and how I spend so much time dressing up in the morning thinking of what to wear. They’re always game for Katipunan adventures and Trinoma gimmicks, even if our wallets end up empty after quite some time. No matter how talkative I get, they still listen to my nonsense rants and corny jokes. Haha! More or less, they have been the best surprise during my first year in college. And I am definitely looking forward to more memories with them!

“Get-togethers” that we’ve had during the year.
But of course, some things will never change. My high school family will always be a part of my life. Being with them for the whole four years, since pilot classes get bunched up together, I’ve considered them family. It always makes me sad when I realize that we are really all far away from each other now but I mean, I’m happy because most of us went to UP but then again, some of my other close friends are in another school. But thank God for technology, we get to plan reunions now and then. I love it when we all get together and catch up; it’s like talking about different and various things already since we’re all walking our own pathways of life.

I always miss my high school family but I know that whatever happens, they will always be there for me. It is true that the bonds you make in HS will never be the same with the other people you’ll venture with in college. *sigh* I guess I have led myself to the emo part so I won’t lead myself any longer because I might end up in tears. I just hope that every one is safe and enjoying college as much as I have been.

Some catching up in Max Brenner, GB3
Friendships will always be constant. There are no past or present friends because friends will always be there; to keep and to care for. Friends will always be huge parts in one’s life so always remember to treasure them because when it seems that all things are lost, your friends will always find you! Find new ones, keep the old ones because when you’ve experienced college like me, you’d see a lot of friendships be taken for granted. Don’t be one of those because I never want to be one as well! So, a big good luck to all those who are about to enter college and may you all find your own gems to treasure while safekeeping the jewels you’ve got.
Shouting all the love to my friends,
Rubie
