Day in the Life of Candy
Natural High
Dear Candy girls, I'm the type of person who is quite easy to please. Simple things make me happy. For instance, I woke up this morning feeling happy just because it's a Friday. And I felt even happier when I went to the kitchen and found that there were waffles for breakfast! (It sure beats my usual banana and oatmeal breakfast routine.) Here are a few other things that give me a natural happy high: 1. Old Friends, New Friends Last weekend, I went on an outing at My Father's House in Laguna with the young pro members of CLC-P (Christian Life Community of the Philippines). Most of them were my orgmates in ACLC (Ateneo Christian Life Community) and they really made me miss my college days. We didn't really do much except eat,... read more
Gossip Girl Updates
Filming for the third season of Gossip Girl has finally begun. HOORAY! On-set snapshots surfaced a couple of days ago, and I'm so glad to see these couple-y, loved-up Chair photos. I'm digging Ed's exec get-up with pink suspenders in the first shot, while looking at the second picture makes me giddy (who knew Chuck and Blair would actually hold hands in public?). Thank God we've finally got proof that this über-stylish couple lasted through the summer! In GG-related news, TV stars Hilary Duff (remember her from Lizzie McGuire?) and JoAnna Garcia (of the short-lived but highly-enjoyable Privileged) are appearing in multiple episodes as Nate and Dan’s new love interests. Can you guess which guest will be paired up with your fave... read more
Happy Week
With the A(H1N1) virus spread all over the metro, confusing weather we're having right now, and a death of a pop star (RIP Michael Jackson ):), I still managed to have a great week last week. Work has been pretty hectic these past few days but I didn't get that in the way of having positive vibes. Let me share you what made my happy week. 1. Forehead band The first time I saw this forehead band (from The Royalty Shop) from Margaux's pullouts for a fashion ed shoot, I instantly fell in love with it. It gives me a hippy and "pacute" look. I already thought of an outfit to wear with it! I'm just waiting for an occasion where I can actually wear that outfit without looking too dressed or underdressed. My trip to Hong Kong on August perhaps?... read more

War of the Words
Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me. Or so they say. But in this age of text messaging and Internet blogging, gossiping—that once-harmless pastime enjoyed by miserly spinsters on lazy afternoons over cups of tea—has ridden the wave of the future and taken a turn for the worse. Hushed speculations that used to be kept within the confines of sets of friends are now widely publicized fodder for everyone. And in this viral age, you don’t have to be a celebrity to be gossiped about on the Internet. It could happen to anyone, as it happened to me. The worst thing about it is that it is so public. When before, the gossipee could live her whole life not knowing that everyone thought she was a (insert derogatory... read more
Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow
I’ve had long(ish) hair for as long as I can remember. Whether layered or one-length or updated with bangs, it’s always been below my shoulder. My long hair is simply part of who I am. So you can imagine my hesitation when I visited one of the top stylists in the city and he said, unflinchingly, “Sweetie, it’s time for a change.” I tried to put up a fight, I really did. But he’s one of those people who wouldn’t take no for an answer. Seemingly fed up with my thinly-veiled misgivings, he finally said he’d leave me alone for a minute to think about it. The one-two punch was delivered when his assistant seized this opportunity to pull me aside and said, “Darling, he’s not just any stylist. He’s an artiste (emphasis on... read more
Deconstructing the Enemy
I admit. I've done it. I've demonized someone that I didn't take the chance to get to know. All because I was jealous. Guilty as charged. It's just that, the first sight of these pretty little things flipping their perfect little hair in the direction of your boyfriend is sure to annoy you. Once introduced, they will grate on your nerves with their lilting laughs and coy innuendo. Already aggravated, any further interaction only results in them pushing all your buttons. Or at least, seeming to do so. Instinctively, you will set off on a warpath to obliterate her. I've realized, though, that the key to keeping your relationship hassle- and jealousy-free is not to destroy the girl who threatens you. What you need to do is make an about-face... read more
