Day in the Life of Candy

Yes, I know I’m sooo late to the party. But I made up for it by watching all 100 episodes—just about five minutes each—in four days! For those who are as late to the party as I am, The Lizzie Bennet Diaries is a web series based on Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice.

Basically, Lizzie the single grad student vlogs about her life. It’s still got Austen canon like Lizzie’s mom’s eternal struggle to marry off her daughters, but it also has the coolest modern twists: Mr. Bingley is now Mr. Bing Lee (gedditttt), Darcy’s a corporate hipster, and more. I love how they modernized Charlotte and Mr. Collins’ “arrangement,” the George and Lydia debacle, and all kinds of other stuff I don’t want to spoil.

If you haven’t read Pride and Prejudice or seen the Keira Knightley movie, I suggest you Wikipedia the original plot so you can better appreciate all the little twists. And when you do decide to watch LBD, make sure you’ve got pillows to hug and to muffle your kilig squeals. I was not prepared for how life-ruining it was, so I found myself flailing, running around my room, and screaming at my laptop in the dead of the night, waking up not a few neighbors. Oh, and go to the bathroom before you start watching! Umm, gross tip, but I promise you won’t be able to tear yourself away for hours.

In case you need more convincing, here are Lizzie and Darcy looking ADORABLE at LBD events.

Last night Marla, Erin, and I found ourselves at Make Your Own Havaianas in Rockwell, which is easily one of my favorite annual summer events.

pink lemonade, anyone?

This year’s MYOH turned the customizable fun up a notch by not only introducing local illustrator Dan Matutina’s astronomy-themed design, but also by announcing the YOU + Havaianas competition, which will see one lucky winner’s design turned into a limited edition pair for the 2014 collection.

Aside from being able to customize my very own pair, I personally dug all the little details that Havaianas threw in to keep in theme with Matutina’s celestial designs. From the alien/spaceship pins, to the constellation print on the reusable canvas bag with markers, the whole thing totally was an out of this world experience.

Make Your Own Havaianas 2013 runs from May 2 to 5 at the Rockwell Tent .

The YOU + Havaianas competition runs online till June 9.

We’re kind of loving today in a superduper way, because aside from the fact that it’s a Tuesday that feels like a Friday (no work tomorrow, whuuut!), Steph, Sam, Erin, and I got to sit down for a scrumptious lunch courtesy of the good folks at Wee Nam Kee. We were invited to their snazzy new Glorietta 2 branch (it’s along the Palm Drive entrance, right beside Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf), and presented their newest limited offering: the Yellow Chicken.

Yellow, is it me you’re looking for?

It’s supposedly hailed as the Wagyu, Kobe, and Kurobuta of chicken because of its premium quality, and after one bite, we instantly understood what all the fuss was about: it was juicy, tender, and jampacked with flavor, and we loved pairing it with the chicken rice and drowning it in crushed ginger, chili, and dark soya sauce. It’s only available in the Glorietta and Serendra branches until June 30, and we can’t wait to go back and sink our teeth into this delicious delicacy again! Will we run into you there? We really hope we do, so we can be Yellow Chicken Fans together.

What yummy dishes have you tried lately?

xx,
Marla

It’ll be my first time in Palawan and I’ve heard so many wonderful things about it. One of my good friends from college is celebrating her birthday this week and we get to do it in paradise!

I’m leaving today and all I’ve got in my bag are swimsuits, flip-flops, and dresses. Can’t wait to wake up to the sound of waves crashing and dive into crystal clear waters. Hoping to come back with a glowing tan and stories of adventure.

Where are you going for the first time this summer? (:

Love,
Macy

I’m a big music fan in general. I basically like artists from all sorts of music genres so when I heard that there was an upcoming music festival here in the Philippines, I instantly got excited even before knowing who the acts were. I guess it stems from the fact that I would totally kill to attend famous music festivals like Coachella, Laneway, Ultra Music Fest, Tomorrowland, and tons more!

The Closeup Summer Solstice music festival is already tomorrow and I’m excited to all the acts, especially Dj’s Afrojack and Cedric Gervais! Since the festival will last for 12 hours, planning the perfect cute but functional outfit can be a bit tricky, which is why I need your help! Here are two looks I’m choosing from:

What outfit do you think I should wear?

Outfit #1: Cropped top, skater skirt, snapback, backpack, and sneakers

Outfit #2: Button down top, high-waist shorts, fedora, bucket bag, and booties

Would really love your help so just comment with what outfit you think would be the perfect one!

Are you going to the festival? What are you wearing? Share it with me!

‘Till next time!
