Sam Soars High

Friday, May 16th, 2008

I’m convinced there’s nothing our May Candy cover boy Sam Concepcion can’t do. We’ve just received word that he recorded a version of the song “Kung Fu Fighting” for the animated film, Kung Fu Panda. What’s great about this accomplishment is that he’s the very first Filipino to sing for DreamWorks, and the said track will be played at the end credits of the movie. It opens June 6, and I’m so looking forward to seeing/hearing Jack Black play the part of a huggable panda!

Congratulations, Sam! :bear: (Oops! This is the closest emoticon we have to a panda bear. Haha!)

Next Wednesday is a very special day for all you Candy girls/Sam fans because you’ll get another chance to chat with our adorable cover boy. He’ll be in Candy’s ChitChat from 5 to 6 pm so don’t forget to log in early! However, if you’d rather see Sam in the flesh (which I’m sure you do!), you can catch him and his buddies Kevin Concepcion, Jackie dos Santos, Candy Jan-Feb cover girl Cheska Ortega, Athena Tibi, PJ Valerio, and Janeena Chan perform on May 17 (tomorrow) and 24 (next Saturday) at Enchanted Kingdom’s Spaceport Zone! Entitled “Enchanting Teens Musical,” expect a one-hour concert that’ll make you dance, sing, and swoon. :x Lucky park guests can even win a Sony PSP, so visit the amusement park now or get the details from their official site.

I’m off to the beach. Hope you guys have a great weekend. Remember to make the most of your remaining summer days…

Boy Zone

Friday, May 2nd, 2008

Have you seen our newest ish? 8-}

It’s filled with cute guys starting with wonderboy Sam Concepcion on the cover alongside his fellow boy panel cohorts AJ Perez, Eri Neeman, and Jonathan Rice (can I just say he looks like Gossip Girl Jenny’s new boy?). I’m excited for you girls because instead of just doing the usual Q&A, we decided to make them guest editors! They style, review, write, and interview someone else. How awesome is that?

To add to the awesomeness of it all (yes, I’m loving the word “awesome” today), the boys are ready to chat with you ALL MONTH LONG! This afternoon, AJ Perez is dropping by Candy ChitChat (from 5 to 6 pm) to answer all your questions. I hope you girls have prepped nice questions. I’m sure he’s tired of answering questions like “What’s your favorite color?” or “How old are you?” already. :P

Post-chat Polaroid pics of AJ. Doesn’t he look adorable? ;)

The other boys will be chatting on these dates:
May 7 (W), 5-6 pm: Jonathan
May 16 (F), 4-5 pm: Eri
May 21 (W), 5-6 pm: Sam

Log in as early as you can so you can also chat and get kilig with fellow Candy girls before the boys log in!

10 Things I Hate About Men

Thursday, April 24th, 2008

Allow me to share 10 special reasons why I would love to hate MEN… but I just can’t!

1) He eats faster than I do (1 pizza slice for me = 2 slices for him). But then again, that means fewer calories for me. :P
2) I’m quite a techie, but I hate to admit he’s super smarter than me when it comes to gadgets and computers. I turn to him when I need answers on how to crack a code or what have you.
3) He cries whenever he feels like it, even if it means sobbing while driving (and secretly scaring me to death!).
4) Mush is secretly his middle name. He loves cheesy ‘80s love songs and even has compiled CDs of them! His fave female artists are Sade and Mariah Carey.
5) He has extra warm arms and hands. But they’re the right temperature when I’m feeling cold in the cinema.
6) Horror movies are never the same when viewed with him. His sudden shock-inducing movements add spice to an otherwise cliché gory flick.
7) He’s up for anything. Anything includes turning into a makeup model (aka my little cousin’s guinea pig) then proceeding to Mini Stop to show off his glamorous new look!
8) Sports is not exactly his area of expertise, but he makes up for it by giving 101%… even if it means falling across a slippery lane while shadow bowling!
9) He knows which buttons to push to annoy me, but he’s even better at making me laugh out loud when he’s in a silly state.
10) The fact that he lives a continent away. Despite the time difference and the long busy days, he still manages to stay in touch.

If you’ve noticed, I haven’t used the plural form in my blog entry. That’s because I’m only talking about one special person in particular, my brother Men. :D

Then and Now: An old tattered picture of my siblings having fun at Tagaytay’s Picnic Grove. Fast forward to Men’s birthday party last year.

From the Candy team and the peeps at home who love you soooooooo, soooooooo much: Happy birthday! May God shower you with all the gifts you need, and may our love travel the distance and envelope you in a big, squishy bear hug.

Hope to see you and Kai in a couple of months…

MWAH! :*

Slambook Fever

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

I’m feeling restless, but the good kind. The type you feel moments before you perform in front of a big crowd or just before you bump into your crush. Now why am I feeling this way? One reason: Gossip Girl!

If you’ve been living under a rock (or maybe just not a fan of the show? But that’s impossible!), you must know that the show is coming back and airing in the US beginning next Monday. YipeeyaYAY!!! :)) I can’t wait to see what happens to my favorites Blair Bear (post dethronement and pregnancy scare) and Bad Boy Bass (will he and Nate be ex-BFFs for good?). Plus, I’m itching to find out who’s coming out of the closet (my life savings is on Eric!).

Oooh! C + B all matchy-matchy. :x How cute is that!

I don’t think they’ll ever reveal who Gossip Girl is, but to honor the show and its cleverly catty character, I’ve decided to answer some questions (slambook style!) taken from GG’s personal blog. See the profiles of your favorite UESiders here.

Lives with: parents Melchor and Agnes in SJ
Likes: Meeting stars, making lists, bursting into song for no reason, traveling, watching teen flicks, laughing out loud, capturing life through snapshots, haunting tunes

Happy New Mia

Monday, April 14th, 2008

I was out and about all day yesterday, up early and out of the house before noon, trying to make the most of a sunny Sunday. And I was quite proud of how I seemed to be turning over a new leaf.

3 Signs of a New Mia
1) bought sweat pants for running (I’m raring to pound the pavement and be all fit and strong)
2) skipped dessert, didn’t have chips all day (one healthy-eating day can be the start of many more to come)
3) didn’t even set foot in Fully Booked (no more hoarding unread books!)

Yay me! Plus I actually brought a car without complaining about parking—my least favorite part of driving—when I decided to take my pups out for a night stroll. They didn’t have to thank me for me to know how grateful they were—the happy smiles on their doggie faces and their slobbery kisses said it all! Yay puppies! (more…)
