Down The Rabbit Hole
Wednesday, March 10th, 2010I remember being a fan of Alice in Wonderland when I was a kid. I had this betamax (it was the box era back then) of an Alice in Wonderland version that I kept on watching over and over again. After seeing the premiere of Tim Burton’s version last week, I searched for my Alice in Wonderland copies from my stash of DVDs I got from the states. There have been a lot of remakes and versions of the story and I was able to get a copy of the ones I like.
Disney’s Alice in Wonderland (1951)
The famous animated version of the 1865 novel. I like how it is so kid friendly and fun.
Alice’s Adventure in Wonderland (1972)
The feel of the film is such a classic. I like the scene when she was falling from the rabbit hole. Different from all other versions, she was falling like she was just floating. She was even talking! It just feels a little weird that Alice looks older than she should be.
Alice in Wonderland (1985)
This is my favorite! This version has 2 parts and was actually shown on TV. Did you see the Jabberwocky? Funny that it scares me like hell when I was a kid knowing itβs only a mascot. It’s a little “trippy” but really cute.
Hallmark’s Alice in Wonderland (1999)
This gave a modern approach to the story but didn’t lose the essential details of the original version. I love the colors they used in the film and the quirkiness of the characters.
Tim Burton’s version was ok and the characters (especially The Queen) were really entertaining but his approach focused more on the Jabberwocky. It would’ve been better if they gave importance to the journey to Wonderland rather than fighting with the dragon.
What do you guys think? Share your thoughts!

It’s Just An Ordinary Day…
Wednesday, February 10th, 2010I’ve been single for almost 2 years now and being alone on Valentine’s Day is normal for me. I think of it as an ordinary day. If you’re the kind who wouldn’t want to stay at home and think of the lament about the reasons why you don’t have a date, read my blog. I’ll give you movies you can watch to enjoy Hearts Day even if you don’t have a beau to share the day with.
What’s not to love about Channing Tatum? This Nicholas Sparks classic novel is a romantic drama about a soldier who falls for a conservative college student while he’s home on leave. When John (Channing Tatum) leaves for the army, he continues to communicate with Savannah (Amanda Seyfried) through letters. If you’ve read the book, you’re probably be wondering how they’re going to tell the story in the silver screen. Take your mom or your dad on a date, that’s if they didn’t make plans for themselves.
Valentine’s Day

Yes, you’re pressured to have a “date” on Valentine’s Day because everyone does have one but wait ’til you see the stories of these people in Los Angeles creating their own drama just because of the pressure of Valentine’s Day. It will be a really interesting ’cause the style of the movie is just like Love Actually (the best love movie for me, next to Serendipity.) Watch it with your single friends and say “awww” all at the same time.
Valentineβs Day shouldn’t really stress you out. This day is not just for couples but for everyone, even the singles. Surround yourself with the people you love and who loves you. Smile! d:
‘βll leave you with this song to remind you of how baduy love can get. d:
Dateless but happy,

Family First
Wednesday, January 27th, 2010(Don’t worry, this is the last installment of my travel blog. :P)
I’ve been to so many places during my vacation but the best part was spent with my family. My cousins from Chicago and I drove up to Canada from Chicago (bloody 8-hour drive!) to visit our cousins in Mississauga and spend Halloween with them. It’s been 8 years since I last saw them and we thought it’s time for us people down south to visit our loved ones in the north. It was 6 days of pure bonding and fun.

Before heading to the city, we stopped over the borderline of Canada to see the Niagara Falls. Though we didn’t bother going to the main falls, we had fun fooling around at the Niagara Falls Park.

As soon as we got to our Tito’s house, we drove to the other end of Mississauga to visit my other cousins from my dad’s side. It was surreal seeing 2 of my families in one house. They didn’t know each other at first but I was glad everyone got along pretty well.

Our main objective in our trip was to have family time and catch up on each other’s lives. No one changed. Everyone remained to be the goofy Guzman we were known for. We fooled around, played games, laugh our hearts out, and enjoyed the rare moment we have together.

Concrete Jungle Where Dreams Are Made Of…
Wednesday, January 13th, 2010So it’s not a secret that Margaux and I, along with Photographer Cyrus, met up in New York City for this month’s fashion editorial. This experience was the best because we didn’t have assistants around and have to trust our trusty map to get around the city. Here are some photos during our tiring and fun shoot.

Our first location was at the Met Steps and we found out that we had to walk 10 blocks just to get to the Central Park! Imagine how tired we are with all the stuff we brought along with us. Margaux and I kept taking turns in taking photos and shooting videos for behind-the-scenes. The weather was really nice the time we were at Central Park. Margaux and I even had time to fool around in between shoots.

We were all multi-tasking! Margaux was taking photos while I became Cyrusβ support so he can shoot from the floor.

Next stop was Times Square. We just got there on time for rush hour. People walking everywhere from one direction to another… It was just perfect! The scene reflects the beauty of New York (Oh how I miss!). Since we didn’t get to hire a hairstylist for the shoot, Margaux and I tried our best to fix the model’s hair as pretty as we can and I can say we did a good job. You can see the big luggage we had to pull everywhere we went. Since we didn’t have a car, we had to carry all the clothes, shoes, and accessories and stuff it all in 2 big trolleys.

For our 2nd day of shooting, itβs time to head to the south of New York. We went down to find the Brooklyn Bridge Park to see the great view of NYC’s famous bridges, the Brooklyn Bridge and Manhattan Bridge. You can also see the beautiful Skyline of Manhattan on the side of Brooklyn. We had no choice but to do makeup in the park. That’s Veronica, our makeup artist, and Divina, who happens to be Ana Sideco’s (our model for last year’s summer fashion special) cousin.

After a long day’s work, we finally had time and enjoy the beauty of New York on our own. We were so tired we felt a little sleepy during our train ride going back to Manhattan. Haha! We went to the famous Shake Shack burger joint in Madison Square. Their burger and frozen yogurt was so good! Being the “tourists” that we are, we explored the city and went to Rockefeller Center and Radio City to check out what’s happening.

Check out the behind the scene videos of the shoot on Candy TV. Hope you love our fashion ed as much as we had fun shooting it.

Welcome to the Windy City
Wednesday, December 16th, 2009Chicago!!! I’ve spent most of my vacation here where most of my relatives from my mother’s side reside. It’s been 11 years since I came back and I can say it hasn’t changed. It’s still how I left it, except for new infrastructures and malls downtown. Chicago is a big part of me (because I was born there) and I’m proud to say that it is one of the best cities in the US. Angel went there before and she loved it! Let me give you a brief tour of Chicago.
Willis Tower
Formerly called the Sears Tower, this 108-story skyscraper is the tallest building in the United States. We went up to the 103rd floor of the building for the Skydeck. It only took us 1 minute to get to the floor and believe me; the pressure in our ears was intense! You can see the whole Chicago from up there. You can also see far over plains of the state of Illinois and across Lake Michigan to Indiana and Wisconsin. The view was just breathtaking! The glass balcony was also a hit! Itβ’s not scary at all… Just donβt look down.
The Shedd Aquarium
It is Chicago’s #1 cultural attraction! It houses a lot of fishes, whales, turtles, and penguins too! What’s so great about the Shedd Aquarium is that they have one floor dedicated to the Wild Reefs of the Philippines. Awesome!
Navy Pier
This is where all cruises, boats, and ships are parked in Chicago by the Indiana Lake. One Saturday night in October, my cousins, their friends, and I went to Navy Pier for their Horror Haunt. It was freezing cold and there weren’t much people so we thought of fooling around like little kids. Too bad the huge Ferris wheel wasn’t open because of the weather but we had a blast making fun of ourselves and make fun of the fake mumus everywhere.
Chicago Grant Park
This is where parks, sculptures, and a lot of trees are found. It is located along Michigan Avenue where famous hotels and infrastructures are lined up. It’s nice to place to jog, stroll around, read a good book, and just relax.
Millennium Park
It was my first time here and I really got amazed. Here you can find the famous Cloud Gate or “The Bean,” The Crown Fountain, and the Millennium Park Amphitheater. Everything looks so modern and well made! The Amphitheater is one of the best architectures I’ve seen.
Chicago’s Architecture
Chicago is famous for their unique infrastructures and building architectures. It ranges from modern to old style buildings. Fun Fact: Batman Begins was filmed in Chicago.
If ever you plan to visit Chicago soon, make sure to visit these places and you’re trip might probably be one of the best you’ll ever have.
See you on my next stop,
